The light you mention relates to the coil and the car won't start if it£ not warm. The guy I bought my first desel from told me to let the engine run for a minute or 2 before driving off and the same when you stop.

Is that the warming up yous are talking about?

No.....thats the glow plugs

They heat up almost instantly now on newer diesel engines (although more noticable on the colder days)

Just drive the car "easy" in the last couple of miles home to look after the turbo.
