Strictly speaking, isn't there no official flag for the UK? Last time I looked into it I think the union flag (it's only a jack when flying at sea) has no official standing and isn't specified in any legislation. It's just a naval flag.

Maybe something in light green without that star or red hand would be agreeable for now. At lrsdt until after we get our united lreland then we'll probably dump tricolour for something more snazzy

There is nothing wrong with the red hand, as long as it is not inside a star with a crown on top of it, the red hand isn't a political symbol, it is cultural and has nothing to do with the British royal family, if you want to get picky about it you could argue that it has nothing to do with Ulster people of Plantation descent either

It is a flag of division and used as a banner for unionist hegemony so how can it be representative?

Just because it isn't representative to you doesn't mean it can't be representative to others.

Have a chat with Paddy Barnes/Conlan or the scores of other Nationalists who have stood under the flag to represent NI. If I was good enough at a sport I wouldn't let a f**king flag stop me from competing that's for sure!!
That's not the point, they shouldn't have too, neither should Unionist rugby players have to play under the tricolour.

So don't have any Ulster players on the Irish Rugby team and no taigs on the Norn Ireland teams...... Sorted
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

be sensible, have a flag that represents all.

If Scotland gain independence (not that they will), will the union flag change?

And shouldn't the current version have a Welsh connection?

"take it down from the mast irish traitors"  why not dump the tricolour in the new united ireland? A new brush sweeps clean.. A new country for us all. Flags change anthems change I dont see a problem. If it brings peace, stability and a sense of belonging to this islands inhabitants then get on ith it. Flags are mearly pieces of cloth

I would vote against a united Hibernia, I don't trust free-staters, they sold us down the river and that shouldn't be forgotten but that is a discussion for another thread.

The wrong people got their hands on Ireland.  Only for the gaa they would have no concept of 32counties
