To complicate things further, it seems the Divisional c/ships down here are pretty unique aswell. As AZ has said, all teams (regardless of grade) play in the divisional c/ships..so you have a Junior team playing Intermediate and Senior teams...I have had quite a few puzzled looks trying to explain that one to a few people aswell! It gets fairly tribal, especially up my way..the North Kerry C/ship would have a reputation for eh..not suiting windy footballers, shall we say!..And for an example of the romance that can be involved, Tarbert, a Junior club won it last year beating Listowel Emmetts who are intermediate.

Someone mentioned earlier on about the distance travelled to play a game in Kerry...Tarbert to Tuosist would be close to the longest in any county....any longer????

Tarbert to Tuosist is 125km according to Google. In Donegal that would be only a spin, Kilcar to Malin is 150km. As always Cork people look down on Kerry, Allihies to Youghal is 190km.

Actually Tarbert to Caherdaniel (where Sneem-Derrynane play sometimes) is longer than the Tarbert-Tuosist trek. 90miles. Comparable to the Kilcar-Malin trek which is 92 miles, but nothing beats the Allihies-Youghal journey..118 miles!! Imagine when driving from Allihies to Dublin and Mitchelstown (still in Cork) is roughly half way there!

So, is the 'county championship' mode really a breeding ground for the county team?

I think I've got most of the idea behind the championship set up in Kerry which on paper certainly looks like a great idea, but just one more question - if a team is designated as a senior club in the county, can they only play as a stand-alone team in the county championship or can they decide to be simply part of the divisional side instead while still playing in the Senior club championship?

Why would any team choose that option ?

Belmullet to Shrule-Glencorrib would be around 145kms.

Don't think Blacksod has a club but if it did is it (according to AA route planner) 161kms.

If you look at both Kerry and the Tyrone panels (basing this on the panels listed in wikipedia)

Kerry  - Players from Senior Clubs 22 in panel of 41  53%
Tyrone - Players from Senior clubs 22 in panel of 28 78%

All the kerry players will have played in their senior county championship - it goes back to my point that the standard county championship system will not find late developers in intermediate / junior clubs. The kerry system is set up to find the best footballers in the county.
