Don't be too hard on him. It must be terrible to live in the shadow of his neighbour's success and to have lost the two most important games ever played between the pair  :D

Aye tis true, we are envious of Down's five Sam's   ;)

Newry in 91 was the hardest one to take though.

Plunkett Donaghy - Tyrone's answer to Chuck Norris.

He'll always be remembered for dropping that Tohill free kick in the 1992 NFL final, that ultimately cost Tyrone their first national title.  God bless him.

I'll remember him for scoring the goal that beat Armagh in Omagh in 1994 and was it not Plunkett that kicked the ball so high that it forced Pat Donnan to carry it over the line against Down in the 1986 Ulster Final? So I think I'll forgive him 1992.

man is a legend. Peter Canavan suggests that had Plunkey stayed on in 1995, the result would have been different....if your aunt had balls, and all that, but on his day he was one of the best midfielders around

The result would have been different if the referee had done his job properly.

Couldnt build a tent nevermind a house though.

Super hard bast*d in his day.

I was talking to a few of my mates about gay icons in the GAA and we all agreed that Plunket Donaghy, Eoin Liston and Joe McNally were the first gay icons for people of that persuasion going by conversations those people were having at the time. In the 90s it was Jason Sherlock Peter Withnall, Graham Geraghty, Tony Davis and Maurice Fitzgerald.

I asked them what made these people gay icons and they said it was hetrosexual people who are extremely attractive to both sexes. They added that presently it's Kevin Cassidy, Paul Galvin, Bernard Brogan, Killian Young, Tom Brewster, Eoin Bradley, Graham Canty and Padraig Joyce. Thems the boys hanging on their walls.

handed Derry the NFL title in 92 which was the spur for 93. We're forever grateful.

Joking aside, a really good man and a nice fella.

I remember him standing in The Moy when Derry where on the way home in '93 cheering them on...fair play to him.

Who would the RTE icons be, Olly ?

I am guessing Anne Doyle but who else ?

I was at a dinner one night and Pat Spillane was waxing lyrical about tough opponents over the years and he said "Plunkett Donaghy was one of the best... no... probably thee best....
