Stewards been attacked, Refs being attacked, Meath chanting on the hill in English accents. Has the opening up of Croke park to foreign sports caused all our problems?

Don't see this going on in any other 'foreign' sports.....

I cant open the link. But a good man from the 6 counties knows all about the influences of the foreign sports. Jesus i'm bored.

Link fixed
BTW Native sports, foreign sports. You know what? ...they're just sports (not politics)

I hear you but back to the topic. I disagree that non-native sport has influenced our current issues. Rather I think it is a sad reflection of the way Irish society has changed. People are no longer bothered by the consequences of anti-social behaviour. There is little or no respect for authority and as we read in our local papers each week the defence of 'I had had a few pints and I'm really a great guy' is deemed an acceptable explanation for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

I blame Ryanair. All this cheap travel to watch the premiership is the problem. When I see the selling of hot-dogs in croker I think I might aswell be in a different country too. Whatever happened to ham sandwhiches in the boot?

He posted on page 1 of the thread so he was ok a short while ago!

You are correct and O'Leary is from Westmeath, so in conclusion it is Meath's fault again.

A hang sangwidge out of the boot would make an improvement to the "food" served on Ryanair.

Talk of sangwidges and the like brings me back to a Dub "parking attendant" off the NCR in the 80s who claimed he once played for WBA and would take £2 to mind the car while the culchies went to the gah but was nowhere to be seen after the match.

Jesus, the 1980s were like a different country.

woooooooooooooooooooorst thread ever.

chanting and all that is as old as the days.

Also, referees have been getting assaulted in the GAA since 1884 ffs.

The influence of Aussie Rules has been catastraphic for the GAA.

That apres match with the ACDC soundtrack to the beating Ireland got some time ago in Oz is a classic.

I blame Croke park. If there were no Croke park there would be no Foreign games in Croke park and we wouldn't be in Croke watching them games getting corrupt. I can't believe what that Dineen bastard did to Ireland.

This is perhaps the most interesting theory yet. The debate has been passionate here with both sides giving good arguments. But from the poll results its quite clear to see that Foreign sports have indeed ruined the GAA.

lynchbhoy

while the 'Dubs' have been singing soccer style on hill 16 since the 70's at least, the first time I saw soccer style chanting from anyone else was the kildare bandwagon jumpers in 1991 when mickodwyers team got to NFL semi final and then final.

while 'foreign' games have maybe influenced some soccer style booing of freetakers and chanting, you cannot say these are 'problems' and that they are caused by anything else than our own sliding standards of manners as a society
