novice question - How many places is paid out on an each way bet?

Usually depends on the number of horses in a race but for Cheltenham, some bookies will pay out on the 4th horse when other bookes won't.  Check with the bookie.  Eg Ladbrokes only paying on 1,2,3 in the first race both some other bookies paying on 4th.  Yesterday Ladbrokes were paying out on 5th in some races.
