Why do the Junior Champions not going into Ulster?

I know it's obviously quite awkward when your senior champions play in Ulster Intermediate, but it seems unfair on St Malachy's that they are missing out on an Ulster Run.

Cúchulainn's could surely go on a good run in Ulster now? They're unfortunate to likely come up against Lavey should they reach the semis, but there's no reason they can't be targeting Ulster this year.

The Armagh county board introduced an intermediate championship this year, presumably this is the reason why. In reality it's probably closer to a Junior A competition with the Junior championship being closer to Junior B.

How many hurling clubs are there in Armagh?

At senior level and (new) underage level?

I assumed the introduction of the Intermediate was to try and bridge the gap, ie, Craobh Rua and CúChulainn's would be a lot stronger than St Malachy's, but would be a bit off if Keady and Middletown.

It's a good idea. Hopefully a few more clubs take up hurling and flesh it out a bit.

Armagh Junior would be a wee bit off the standard if Junior in some other counties.

To the best of my knowledge, there's 8 clubs offering hurling at the moment:

Middletown
Céide Lámh Dearg
Cúchulainn's, Armagh
Craobh Rua, Camlocha
Sean Tracey's, Lurgan
Killeavy
St Malachy's, Portadown
Derrynoose

Interestingly, 5 of those are hurling-only clubs, with only 3 dual clubs in the whole county.

As far as I'm aware, the only club in Armagh offering underage hurling outside these is Silverbridge.

Plenty of scope to grow hurling in Armagh in the coming years.

Keady really a dual club too but technically 2 separate clubs. Lot of work would need done to improve standards all round.

The league wasn't great Cúchulainn's played in the Antrim league last year, Derry year before - lower divisions but least lots of competitive games, this year they played in Armagh league which also had Dungannon and a team from Louth.

I think An Port Mór (Blackwater) has underage hurling.

Think there's a juvenile hurling club based in Benburb but it covers a rake of clubs in that area of Armagh/Tyrone. A lot of clubs amalgamate at underage for football and hurling is no different. Logistically a bit of a nightmare to get up and running

Middletown and Clonmore have to do it all again. Poor enough match for the neutral with both teams defences on top. Middletown were slow to get their rhythm going but I reckon they'll be a bit sharper in the replay and part of me thinks Clonmore have missed the boat.

The intermediate final was a bit more entertaining, have to feel really sorry for St Paul's, perennial bridesmaids. Well done to Sarsfields though, some stalwarts in that team that were well well deserving of a medal. Most other small clubs would wither away into obscurity but Sarsfields over the past 10/15 years or so have shown great resilience to continue challenging for or at senior level.

Heard middletown have a young player dara 'dazzler' mullan set to make his championship debut on saturdqay for the final. Watched the half time show during the last game, and he astonished me. Very high quality at half time, dont see any reason why he shouldnt be making an appearance for the county at 20sor senior level even. Is miles clear of stefan campbell who just retired from county duties, could deffo fill that gap

Oh no not an import off the Tyrone club thread.
