A total of 84% of people in Ireland are worried about the cost-of-living crisis, while fewer than one in seven believe the Government is doing enough to address it.
Almost half of 1,243 adults surveyed by Ipsos B&A for the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) said they feared that they would not meet household costs in the year ahead.

Yet house prices continue to rise https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2025/0820/1529302-cso-residential-property-prices/

Something has to give somewhere down the line.

Yet, and I know this is a UK stat, but generally mimicked here,

The average number of holidays taken per person has risen from 3.4 to 3.9 in the UK, reaching the highest level since 2019. Consumer spending on holidays and travel has seen a substantial increase, with one analysis showing a 520% surge in holiday spend since the pandemic.

This is more to do with people lacking impulse control and peer pressure rather than being able to afford anything. Also, people are financing JustEast now so Id imagine same for holidays.

A grand plan to connect Belfast City Airport by rail to the city centre.

A handy 20 years work at least there for the civil servants.

Hmmmm. The last stat I would query. While people are struggling, I'm not sure almost 50% are living hand to mouth.

Look-Up!

I took the train from my house to the City Airport at the start of the year, its a 20 mins walk from the platform (where it currently sits) to the entrance, footbridge and path to the airport in place!

Would much prefer train system to Aldergrove, higher volume of people using it

Totally agree. A train to Aldergrove would make much more sense.

I'm sure it wasnt you but I do snigger at people who walk along the Sydenham Bypass to the airport instead of walking along the designated path behind the fence.
