Excuse my ignorance but what is it that makes this road so dangerous? I've heard about it a lot and i know a lot of lives have been lost on it but not from the area so not particularly familiar with it. Is it the road near the Tyrone Centre of Excellence?

The problem that I have with the environmental issue is wait to you see the bonfires in about 3 weeks time. The amount of rubbish and tyres etc. being burned is crazy.

Not only that but the amount of farmers and companies poisioning fish in rivers ever other month is mad. Then a token fine.

Plus the amount of sewage being pumped into the water ways is crazy also.

I could go on but what's the point.

Either work to clean the environment or don't basically.

100% or nothing.

Yes.

The BBC have a time lapse journey along it on the BBCNI website which is illuminating https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ckg58jggz6mt?post=asset%3A244e1d2f-0a8d-45b9-8473-19fd0f5a1aee#post.

I'd rarely be on it myself but it's a whole mishmash of everything - single lane, some double lanes for overtaking, access roads galore (*200* according to the link above!) left and right from small rural roads carrying tractors etc. Slow traffic on some bits, fast traffic on others. On the map it looks like a big long straight road which shouldn't pose any problems but if you combine those layout issues with the driving standards and speed used on our roads then as is evident it is a recipe for disaster.

Wildweasel74

There's too much slow moving traffic. Normally tractors/ heavy lorries, passing anywhere on it is difficult,  and way too many side roads connecting onto to it. When am on it am ultra careful, but it likely be the other lad in a rush or a mistaking coming out from side road that snooker you!

This same fool seemed to think farmers had nothing to do with Lough Neagh being a slurry pit.

The people involved couldn't give one f**k about the environment. Its to stop the fenians getting anything. Plain and simple

It's more to do with the perception of strengthening connections across the island of Ireland than 'fenians' getting something.

Certain backward looking unionists will probably see this as a road from Dublin going right through our wee country.

Objection to the Carlingford bridge comes from the same mindset.

Yes work has started but it took a long time to get there.

Just as the A5 will be upgraded to a dual-carriageway, except with hundreds of millions wasted by backward narrow minded bigots (taking advantage of DFI being lazy and incompetent).

Mad Mentor

I'm not one for conspiracy theories normally, but is there possibly someone on the inside of DFI deliberately messing up the plans and leaving loopholes for the objectors?

You need evidence of the standard of the actual driving for that. Don't get me wrong I think it's a disgrace that it's not an offensive in NI. It would be in the south and in England and Wales but it's not in NI.

Thankfully there is an ongoing consultation about changing the law but there was an identical one about 5 years ago when Mallon was infrastructure minister and they decided not to change the law. Hopefully this time will be different.

Going back to the topic, did SF/SDLP/Alliance shoot themselves in the foot here by supporting the Green Party's proposed Climate Change Act which included the 2050 target of zero emissions, rather than the DAERA one which had a more realistic and achievable 82% reduction?
Careful now

And did they vote for it because the DUP and TUV were against it?
