Truth hurts

At the weekend there we seen fights in Clones ad fights on the Hill. What can we do to stop young ones congregating to matches full of Drink and drugs acting like soccer hooligans.

These happen to be supporters, I use the term vaguely,  who never go to NFL games.

Not giving the f**kers all afternoon to drink the head of themselves would be a start.

5.25 throw in doesn't help.
That's just, like your opinion man.

Don't really think that the throw in time should be blamed.  What is the alternative have all games earlier as people can't behave?  What about the people working on a Saturday? League games are played on a Saturday evening and are a great job.

I think the throw in time was an issue for sure.  Busses leaving at 12 from Armagh to Clones (a 1hour trip at very, very most).  Plenty of time for drink and whatever else.

This was a final also, it doesn't come around every week like league games do.  The occasion would spur people on to head out drinking for sure.
I tend to think of myself as a one man wolfpack...

everybody else is going  so I have to go

Unfortunately getting boozed up and acting  the dick at big matches seems to  have become the norm  for many many  people

Ive seen it many times people  politely telling  others to tone down the swearing , as there's children about. You'd probably get a glass bottle  thrown at you now for  saying that

My father took us everywhere to games , and  wouldn't have tolerated  any abuse  of opponents or bad language or you'd have got a  cuff round the ear

Most of these youngsters probably never  were taken to a match before , so they don't know how to behave

I see there was a bit of punching on the Hill in Dublin too.

100k were at the two games
there was drunken ness and a few fights but at least 95%  of the public were there for the games
i remember as a child in the 80s watching guys drunk rolling down the grass bank at clones so it hasnt really gotten much worse save for the drugs

Dont think it matters what time it atarts, if you have it earlier they'll just drink earlier, better garda presence and anyone found acting the p***k identified and banned, difficult to enforce I know. Its usually the ones who don't even go to the game that cause the trouble watching it in the pub in Clones.

The times are also dictated to by television.  If the game was played at 3pm on a Saturday there would have been uproar about that also.  In relation to the buses had the game been earlier the buses would have adjusted the leaving time to suit so people could have a "good day" out.

need to bear this in mind and not tar everyone. Plenty there will have had pints and not been involved in anything untoward. Checks on bags/people going in need to be stricter

I don't think bag checks are the problem I had a bag with me on Saturday and it was checked thoroughly it's what goes on before hand or lads maybe having spirits mixed in a bottle that aren't detected.

Attended the '22 and '23 Ulster Finals (O'Duffy Terrace) with family. Couldn't believe the amount of alcohol that some lads managed to get into the grounds. Cooler bags filled with cans. Some around us had beer/cider bottles too. Seemed to be more checks on those walking up the hill from the town, than there was from the other side. Even then it was a tick box thing. The few stewards that were there weren't gonna challenge too many lads or ladies with back packs.
