Not sure the new rules will suit us Lynch's kickouts have too high a trajectory and our midfield isn't strong enough aerially to win the ball we'll need.

Agreed. It worries me that Tally didn't seem to think this was going to be a tactic before this game.
If he doesn't adapt to what he learned from this game then we have issues, but for now we have to give him time to adapt to the new rules and get us sharper.

Lynch is fit enough lads, and he's fast enough. Probably one of the best showstoppers in the game and his kickouts are good, though sometimes a little slow.
We don't have a better gk option that I know of.

We'd a lot of sloppy passes and dropped ball, we're 2nd to break balls, and on more than one occasion struggled to vend down far enough to pick a ball up. So fitness needs to improve too, but that will come.

What's he complaining about?

Sure it was 15 V 14 before this when the other keeper came out?

Ball

Thought keeping Lynch back was a strange tactic, doesnt need to be gung ho like last year.

I do think we'll struggle this year, dont see how the panel will have improved on last year. We will need a full panel available.

Ballinderry robbed there?

librarygal

Was it a penalty for Crossmolina? I don't think it was.

Lynch is a top class keeper. He must've been under instructions not to go forward because he's very strong on the ball in the other half. Tyrone getting morgan forward to provide an extra man gave derry lots of problems and it's surprising we didn't do the same until it was much too late.

Did you watch any Derry games last year? Lynch caught up the field numerous times resulting in game changing goals not capable of getting back.

Brendan

Lynch is brilliant at the traditional goalkeeper duties like shot stopping and kickouts but strong on the ball he is not, how many times did we see him lining up to take shots and groan because we just knew he was going to kick straight into a defender.

In other news Ballinderry badly shafted there

NotedObserver

What's McKinless fitness like? Is he carrying an injury?

I also watched him in Ulster finals, AI semi final and league finals coming out every time and doing well. In particular the 2023 AI semi v Kerry and the 2023 Ulster championship game were we hammered Monaghan he was involved in every play.

Last year we gave away goals from the tactic but if Tyrone defenders give the ball away with a lateral pass half way up the pitch and Morgan is up there they will do the same thing.

We did it when it was 15 v 14. It makes even more sense to it now when it's 12 v 11.

Surprised at Tally speaking so strongly against the 12 v 11 considering he's brought up a long time forward to wear 16. But as Mario said the 12 v 11 provides greater importance for an outfield keeper, something we should be doing to a degree imo

Quote from: lenny on January 26, 2025, 08:34:33 AMWe were missing 4 certain starting players in cluckie, paudie, mckinless and loughlin. We were in the lead after an hour. Tohill was making his debut and up against a really good experienced player. The big difference for me was the bench, tyrones made a big impact and ours didn't. We need to develop a stronger panel for the long term so relegation wouldn't be a disaster as armagh showed last year.

Tyrone probably missing double the amount of starters.

Tohill would be lucky to get a place at MF for Swatragh.

I'd agree with a couple of posters saying we have peaked and are on the way down. Not down to Div 3 or 4 again, but not in the top 5 teams in the country. We have 1 threat in McGuigan, that's been a problem for about 4 or 5 years now, we struggle to bring through scoring forwards.

Won't see him in a Derry jersey this year.

Is there a list of the wider squad anywhere?

Derry really are terrible about promoting our senior team in comparison to other county teams - they don't do much to help promote our main team.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on January 25, 2025, 10:49:15 PMLad no confidence and wasn't great, but it's up front where we got problems. For a long time now, I been saying the way underage club fball in Derry set up is not for open fball, same with schools fball. We are not producing open attacking forwards, whereas in Kerry they constantly do. So somewhere down the line it has to be the way they been coached.

Totally agree Wildweasel - look at how St Pats and St Marys setup against each other a couple of weeks ago in the MacRory, and again the scoreline of the semi final over the weekend (albeit bad conditions for football). Our club teams as young ay under 14 had been setting up with everyone behind the ball in a couple of games I seen last year (madness). Derry minors have had great success the last few years, but have also been very defensive - that sort of football only takes teams so far, and as you say it's one of the main reasons why we're not producing open attacking forwards. Our neighbors in Tyrone have loads of this type of player.
