Schools football is the worst of all football, absolutely no doubt about it, but especially so in Ulster. A grade football from Rannafast on is approached with the mentality & intensity of inter county championship.

Managers who have got eyes on bigger things looking results has made it much worse as well I reckon. Its a career pathway for a 2nd job.

A strong Four Masters, Ulster champs u18, representation on that Abbey VS team then?

I would say you would have to go back a long way to find when St Colman's didn't score in a half of football.  I was talking to a guy at the Abbey St Pats game on Saturday and it wasn't much better.

Did you see the squad?  There were only about 7 players on the squad that aren't Four Masters

The school draws from three clubs: Four Masters, St Nauls to the west of Donegal Town, and part of Naomh Brid to the south (a good chunk of them would school in Ballyshannon too).

As Donegal Town is by far the biggest population center serving the school, most of the players will come from the Four Master club.

It's historically very unusual that there have been no Four Masters players getting near the county senior side the past few years, whereas St Nauls have two starters and the back-up keeper (Mogan, McCole, Mulreany), but going by their current underage teams, if they can keep the players involved, Four Masters will be a serious force in Donegal and Ulster senior club football in the not-too-distant future. Been hearing a lot about former county man Shane Carr's sons (one of them captained AVS to the McLarnon last year).

Is Abbey Vocational a stand alone school and the Southwest Donegal team is a bit of an amalgamation?

Are Omagh fancied for the final again along with Magherafelt?

Have Maghera played Magherafelt yet?

Wouldn't say fancied. Team not as strong as the previous years. Likely to be a few fifth years starting as well showing this.

SW Donegal is an amalgamation of the schools in Killybegs, Carrick, Glenties, Rosses (Dungloe) and Gweedore.

Abbey VS is a single school in Donegal Town.

Damien Diver, who is the county board person in charge of coaching, said previously he was looking at the possibility of other amalgamations to give young lads a chance to play at a higher level.

I don't think Gaoth Dobhair and Na Rossa are in SW Donegal?

Either that or it's a massive catchment area.

The old SW Donegal Dail constituency was way bigger!

But yeah, maybe "west Donegal" would have been more accurate.

That's not fair, is it?

How many schools?
