A shower of cnuts who tried to derail the peace process and wouldn't accept the will of the people.

Yesterday (Sunday) 8th December 1980, John Lennon was shot dead

Anyone remember it  happening? Or where they were when  they heard the news?

Mum was ironing in front of the tv, I don't think we'd the extension done, so living room, scullery all pretty cramped and she started crying when the news came on about his murder.

Always remembered my dad didn't like him too much when he became all political,  thought he became too much of a smartarse.

Weird that it's still a memory

Was in my late teens (giving away my age!) in a cold kitchen about to head out to work 7am or so (mid week) and was on the radio news. We were used to killings on the news those mornings across the North.
Still remember that and where I was working and boy who gave me lift to work. Didn't know much about John Lennon then, other than he was in The Beatles whose heyday was 1960s. Music for us was the Top 30.. Undertones, Police, Boomtown Rats, Thin Lizzy etc and of course Horslips.
I remember that night TV news, crowd in Central Park, New York with candles singing Give Peace A Chance. I think a few Lennon songs went to No 1 later.. maybe. Certainly became iconic... Merry Christmas, Imagine, Give Peace A Chance... all a long time ago.
Was no social media or 24 hour rolling news then...

Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

My father thought the same of Mohammed Ali. Must be an Irish thing.

Still very eerie watching videos of people standing at the beach watching the water pull back out to sea not knowing what was actually coming their way

This was a particular point in history, when there were video cameras but not no smartphones. With smartphones somebody would get wind of events and probably people further from the epicentre would have been able to evacuate.

There were smartphones in Valencia when it rained a year over an afternoon recently. Even though people may  have understood what was happening they didn't know what to do.
