Did O'Kane write this one? See it was the Irish Osberver.  We can safely say nobody in the county board was in the ra, as they can keep f**k all a secret!

Quote from: toby47 on November 12, 2024, 12:26:45 PMKerry's performance coach Paddy Tally is being targeted to become the next Derry football manager.

Former Down boss Tally has been coaching Kerry under Jack O'Connor these past three seasons including 2022 when they claimed an All-Ireland SFC title. He is set to remain with them in 2025 as a performance coach, replacing Tony Griffin.

However, that arrangement could be in jeopardy with Derry believing they may have finally found a successor to Mickey Harte is his fellow Tyrone man and former coach Tally.

After a difficult championship which was preceded by a Division 1 title, Harte stepped down in July and a host of names including former manager Rory Gallagher have been linked with the vacancy in the meantime.

A member of Tyrone's 1995 All-Ireland finalist panel, Galbally man Tally worked with Harte when the county claimed their first Sam Maguire Cup in 2003. He was also part of James McCartan's Down set-up that lost to Cork in the final seven years later. He also assisted Kevin Walsh during his term in Galway before taking over Down in 2018 and later joining O'Connor in Kerry from 2022.

Earlier Tuesday, former Derry footballer Joe Brolly posted on X/Twitter: "Derry board going through the phone book of Tyrone managers. Shameful lack of loyalty to their own. Shameful lack of integrity".

Philly McMahon in with him as a coach apparently. Given where we're at in the process and what's gone on to date, it doesn't sound too bad. Could be a few twists yet though.

It is a fair spin from Ballymun to Owenbeg, big miles though which always helps with the €€.

2 different tickets according to Cahair O'Kane, Tally with Paul McIver, Ricey McMenamin & Enda Muldoon and Another ticket headed by Philly McMahon. You'd think they'll go with someone with a proven record at inter county level unless McMahon has some big hitters but who knows with this county board

Wildweasel74

I wouldn't be that worried about McMahon, he played at the highest level, and knows what would be required, still a rookie and a big risk, but with Tally or Muldoon it be a better bet that some of the names banded around. Whatever happens, I think more than a few men need look at their position come the Derry AGM this year.

Have any of you listened to Philly on co-com, to say he isn't the sharpest of analysts would be somewhat understating things.

Can we actually be sure that this will be it sorted now?

What's the chances of it not being ratified at the county board meeting on Thursday night given the tensions that exist after the Gallagher carry on

I think he was in Owenbeg last night so its sounds legit.

Scorcher1

will there be any new additions to the panel? I've seen a few players through both league and champo can add to that panel both in defense and attack.

Gael-in-exile

I noticed one article saying Tally met with players on Tuesday.
How much of Derrys recruitment is player led? Reading between the lines MH & GD had a player link recruitment and that didn't turn out well.
Could there be concern here about the amount of say players (or maybe some in particular) have on the day of the manager?

Uncle Phil

Seriously underwhelming appointment if the Tally news is true. Especially given his tendency towards defensive football, with the new rules promoting attacking play imminent.

I'd tend to agree. I was never particularly impressed by him.
But, we don't have many other options on the table so could well be true. If it is him, the backroom team will be crucial.

Who would you suggest would have been 'overwhelming'?

Never mind the players, county board has anyone checked with the morality police around Tyrone,Armagh Cavan etc if this appointment is acceptable to them. Hopefully Tally has no skeletons hidden  away
