That's why we've had scoreboards, trophies etc.since the 1880s

aye cause managers and coaches were getting thousands back then, youre either missing my point or ignoring it.

This was in the Irish Independent "A trial run of their 'enhancements' for the sport will be staged in Croke Park on Friday, October 18 and Saturday 19, in the form of an inter-provincial competition, featuring players whose club involvements have concluded for the year.

The games – two semi-finals and two subsequent matches between the winners and losers – will be played under the proposed rules, which are in the advanced stages of being finalised by the FRC."
Looking at broadcasting it probably through TG4. Hopefully they look at them properly before implementing, every rule change or new structure for competitions is hailed as solving the defensive nature of football and the problem of meaningless games. Only to be reviewed in a couple of years when it turns out they weren't the answer.
If the GAA think the product is getting worse maybe they should reflect on the changes made in recent years and consider that they might be the cause.

Teams/coaches/trainers/mentors never went out to entertain whether paid or not.
They went out TO WIN.

Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

so you dont think managers taking thousands off clubs has anything to do with club football in a lot of places being more boring? I think it does but again thats my opinion.

No mater what rules we introduce managers/ coaches will work ways round them, its the same in every sport in the world. Were people crying for changes to the Soccer rules when Pulis and Big Sam were doing their thing in the premier league? no, sports go in cycles. Football is fine, if anything do away with the forward mark. its becoming too stop start, the 1 rule I do like is the free to yourself to restart play.

The best football as a spectacle was the early 00s. The rules weren't a problem then, they still arent now, as said the issue is the managers/ coaches

Opinions indeed.
Pateen Spillane didn't think much of the "puke" football in the 00s.

By the way how many advanced marks are there in an average game?
3? 5?
Maybe clamp down on feckin throwball and on the man in possession!
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

twohands!!!

These rule changes are being looked at by the FRC which has a much more impressive/capable makeup compared to the standing rules committee which have been in place for way too long and has been made up of some distinctly unimpressive individuals.

There's been far more testing and tweaking of these rules in games/on pitches by the FRC compared to what the SRC has done.

There's also the fact that a number of the standing rules committee are hurling people which is utter madness given the power the standing rules committee has in relation to the rules of the game.

Having the main committee that comes up with rule changes be the same people for both hurling and football is just pure stupidity.

The game needs drastic changes though.

The only adult matches I tune into these days that don't involve Ballyholland or Down, are either the last stages of the AI, or games with Mayo playing.

Everything else turns me off.

So it's not football I'm tuning in for, but a sense of loyalty.

Admittedly I am a sample of one. Except most people I know from my generation have gone the same way.

Mayo have been as risk averse as any team has been over the last 2 or 3 years, Western People had a good article on Mayo's style of play at the moment and it's not one to get bums off seats. During games with the Mayo's slow laborious play you can hear a pin drop in a full MacHale Park stand nowadays.

It's 2024 and this is the sort of thing us in the six counties still have to deal with.

Anyone got the full thing?

The TUV are a vile bunch of bastards.

Niall is the definition of a gentleman and what he's been through in the last few  years has been horrible and he's a credit to himself and his family achieving what he has despite all of it.

In a series of Assembly questions, the TUV's Timothy Gaston demanded to know whether fire staff would continue to pose for images, the minister's assessment of their actions, and whether the event at Armagh Fire Station breached employment rules.
But dismissing the North Antrim MLA's concerns, Mr Nesbitt praised the firefighters involved and spoke of how they had tried to save the lives of two relatives of Armagh footballer Niall Grimley who died in a crash in 2023.
The championship-winning midfielder who visited Armagh Fire Station month with the Sam Maguire trophy to say thank you to staff.
His older brother Patrick was killed in the accident when returning from his surprise 40th birthday, with Patrick's wife Ciera and as Ciara McElvanna — wife of Armagh's 2002 All-Ireland winner Kevin — also losing their lives.

Dismissing the concerns raised by Mr Gaston, Mr Nesbitt said: "A member of the Armagh All-Ireland winning football team attended Armagh Fire Station along with family members as an expression of gratitude and recognition of the personnel for their response to a road traffic collision in which three people tragically lost their lives.
"Two of the victims of this tragic collision were relatives of the Armagh player who attended the station. He is also a road safety ambassador for The Road Ahead Support Group charity, to which the Armagh firefighters made a personal donation.
"Another victim of the tragedy was the wife of a former Armagh All-Ireland football winner, and along with his family, he attended the event."

TUV MLA Timothy Gaston
Mr Nesbitt spoke of how the Grimley and McElvanna families has personally thanked the firefighters.
He said: "This tragedy had a significant impact on the families of the deceased, the local community and the firefighters who responded, many of whom knew the victims.
"NI Fire and Rescue believes this approach was consistent with its responsibilities as a fair and equitable employer and that it was the right thing to do in supporting not only the families impacted by this incident but also the firefighters who responded."
After winning the All-Ireland in July, Niall Grimley paid an emotional tribute to his dead brother Patrick, his wife Ciera and friend Ciara McElvanna.
He said: "You wish you could get the chance to see (Patrick) again... but it's like 'Ah no, he's not here for this and I wish he was'. (Winning) was a special, unbelievable moment but a very sad moment."
Speaking after Niall Grimley brought the Sam Maguire trophy to Armagh Fire Station, on-call watch commander Kevin McAuley said: "It has been a very special evening for us as a group. It's really important that we continue to support and educate people on the importance of road safety.
"Tragically people in this room have lost family members in road traffic collisions and this was one of our ways that we would like to show support to the families and local community."

Timothy Gaston is a chip off the old bigoted loyalist block.

He got his knickers in a twist over bilingual manhole covers which were installed in Ballymena as part of public realms works. His father had the local McDonald's drive-through change a sign saying "Yield" to "Give Way", because the former is used on road signage in the South and presumably sounds too feniany.

A pair of wankers.

imtommygunn

Imagine being that bitter. That's horrendous.

Armagh18

How bitter do you have to be? Seriously like.

Rossfan

No doubt yearning for the good old days when no "Fenians" were allowed have public jobs.

Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.
