This does not address the top left corner, which should be squared off. Nor does it provide any more cover.

'Improved welfare facilities' - you'd hope so. You're right too - you need more covered stands to really upgrade it. It looks like a corporate upgrade instead of a big change to the stadium for supporter experience. I thought after being there last year a small amount could make a difference in the stadium, new toilets and tarmac the walkways etc. But it will take massive investment to cover seating areas at either end assuming the hill will never be covered.

The biggest issue is still going to be the roads in - that won't be fixed. I hope they get the investment though - it would be great to see. Still need a full redevelopment of Casement as well

WTF is this shit?

When will the decision makers understand - the GAA usage model does not support all seater stadia

I have the exact same intrinsic problem with this as with Casement.

Hopefully just a talking shop and nothing concrete. No issues with spending some money on it - but at least spend it wisely.

They should forget about covering the two ends, or even converting them from terracing. Waste of money.

I reckon the south-west "quarter" of the hill could be placed under a cover. Which would be enough to give folks option of standing under cover or sitting under cover for every game bar the 2 or 3 near-capacity games a year.

Then refresh Gerry Arthurs. New loos etc all round, sort the pathways and lighting. Not sure what else is needed really.

They're already seated to the LHS of the Gerry Arthurs, can't remember what end that is - opposite the main entrance. Uncovered seating is a balls too unless you've the climate for it.

How could you cover the Pat McGrane with the hill right behind it?

I don't think you can cover it unless the hill goes - which it won't.

Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

Madness isn't it get he planning and then worry about the costs later..

"We haven't even looked at costs yet. We're still at planning," he said [Chairman of Cavan GAA Kieran Callaghan]

If that one sentence didn't sum up the GAA approach to stadiums I don't know what does.

In some ways Cavan is well positioned geographically, it could be used for a number of neutral combinations in football and its neighbours in Longford and Mullingar have relatively small grounds.

But it appears the GAA have no intention of taking big matches ie. quarter finals away from Croker, im getting fed up with so many GAA stadiums sitting empty all the time it just looks awful.

Sorry, maybe wasn't clear - I wasn't proposing covering that - proposing covering a bit of the hill only.

There are 4 general classes of ticket:
- covered seating
- uncovered seating
- covered standing
- uncovered standing

You could further break that into pitch-side and pitch-end if you really wanted.

By and by large, the big GAA stadia are used [1] many times per year at <20% capacity, then [2] maybe 2-3 times a year they see >80% capacity.

Croke being a bit of an exception, with more events pushing up toward 50% capacity.

So GAA stadium design should focus on delivering covered seating and covered standing to serve the use case [1] - with uncovered terracing to meet use case [2]. The money saved from not chasing white elephants can then be better used to deliver more local pitches to clubs and schools so more kids can get out and play the game.
