It's seems the Liatroim/Murphy experiment is well and truly over, no involvement with them yesterday in Carryduff.

It was strongly rumoured during the week of an acrimonious split but the teamsheets yesterday confirmed it.

Still waiting on the CB confirming but the Senior semifinals in two weeks time look to be;

Ballygalget v Liatroim
Portaferry v Ballycran

Bredagh and Carryduff will be dropping down into the Intermediate grade.

Bredagh TBH were disappointing yesterday, allowing our lads to pop off points at will in the first few minutes but they did manage a few of their own, the two goals in quick succession killed the game off as a competition.
Our lads continued where they left off against Portaferry with a high % of their shots resulting in scores but there was little pressure on the shooter for a lot of them.
All the same, we've been dire for most of the year and no one in Ballygalget of a sound mind saw us sitting top of the round robin in September but it will be for nought if we don't perform in the semi-final.

Truth hurts

Why were so many games conceded in the u16 championship at the weekend? Should we go back to a straight knockout championship at underage or are the groups ok?

Do clubs get penalized for not fielding at the juvenile level?

It was the 3rd round of the group games and a few teams had lost the 1st 2 so the they were already out of the championship. There was a couple of weeks break too which didn't help so teams like that might have stopped training etc.

Not sure about fines etc.

Strange times and venues for some of this weekends fixtures. Kilcoo v Glenn takes place on Saturday evening at 6.30pm whilst an intermediate semi final is on in Mayobridge at 4pm. Surely a double header in Newry would be a better idea and make more sense for spectators.
Sunday is even more laughable - the minor championship final is on at 1.30pm in Newry and the same ground hosts a senior semi final at 6pm - why not play the minor game at 4pm and allow neutral fans to attend both?

When county board ran double headers everywhere and anywhere, the accusation then was that it was all about maximising the dough.

Surely both ends of this stick can't produce them the same result?

Double headers are shite btw.

They're not for everyone.

The Sunday one is particularly bizarre though.

Nothing bizarre about it. Gives the stewards a chance to shoot over to the Canal Court for the carvery.

Blackandblue2

Business end of the season.

Predictions for the weekend.

Drumgath vs Darragh cross- comfortable win for Drumgath, playing well at the top of division 3
Rostrevor vs Banbridge- Rostrevor may thread carefully as Banbridge have a couple of players to cause trouble, but if match ups are right it should be a couple point win

Glenn vs Kilcoo- Glenn pose a different question to Kilcoo- the unknown, do they have enough to trouble Kilcoo, many have tried and failed. Kilcoo comfortable win
Carryduff vs Burren- The prize for runner up 2024. Both teams have numerous county men, should be a great battle. I think Carryduff scrape through this one. 1 point win

Thoughts?

Yeah Glenn could be tricky for kilcoo but I expect kilcoo will give them the respect they deserve and win the match.

I am going for Burren in the second game. Burren were not impressive v bredagh in second half but they should have learned but I don't think carryduff have the personnel in defence to deal effectively with liam kerr and Danny Magill... if they are on form. If these 2 boys are not in form then Carryduff can win it.

Square Ball

Kilcoo as usual will coast to a 4 or 5 point win unless they want to send out a message.

Hard to call the other one, but but Burren by the odd one.
Hospitals are not equipped to treat stupid

So what is the predictions for the minors? Will Mayobridge do it again?  Bosco will no doubt give them a good game of football but it will not be the clean football the bridge is used too.  Ballyholland think they will sale through and leave shamrocks for dust on Monday night but I have a feeling Ballyholland shouldn't be too cocky. Look where they got them.

Truth hurts

There's a fascinating discussion on the Ulster Club IFC and JFC 2024 regarding Armagh's approach to second teams playing in the senior league. In light of the state of reserve football in the county, Is it worthwhile to revisit this?

Big difference is that in Armagh their first team & reserves are completely different groups of players. Both play at same time so there is no players overlapping & appearing on both panels.

There isn't the scenario where lads can play well in reserves & get promoted to seniors or give fringe players a run for reserves.

There aren't many clubs in Down that could field 40+ adult players to fill two panels.

This been discussed 3 or 4 times on here in the past 2/3 years
