Quote from: RedHand88 on July 31, 2023, 01:56:40 PMClub snobs are nearly as bad as hurling snobs! Plenty of legitimate reasons why someone doesn't follow a club.

So someone following the game at grass roots level is now labelled as a snob. That's a bit of an irony, I would have thought that would apply to the lads following the big time stuff.

He wasn't meaning people who follow club GAA are snobs. He means that the many people who feel the need to complain about people who prefer to watch county GAA over club GAA are snobs. Some people just prefer watching top level sport, it is noones business what level of sport they watch

Unrepentant club snob here. Make no apology for it either. Cant stand these gimps (of which there are plenty) who follow Armagh but wouldn't bother their hole going to watch a local club game. Then cry when paid up GAA members get tickets ahead of them.

Imagine actually getting offended by people from County Armagh going to Armagh matches. If their passport says Armagh they have as much right as you to go watch the team. The funny about it is if the stands were empty at Armagh matches people like you would be complaining too.

Quote from: Hereiam on July 31, 2023, 09:19:36 AMSo that's a wrap for the 2023 County football season, what the hell are we suppose to do now?

are you one of those people who follow your county but hasn't got an arses clue about what the game is truely about. Club now has centre stage for the next four months

Most people do have a clue what is happening in the club game even if they don't go to games. A quick look at the back pages of the county newspaper or a scroll through Facebook tells you what is happening in the club season. Anyway, I didn't think Antrim had a problem with band wagoners anyway. Sure half the clubs members wouldn't even go to watch Antrim games never mind the casuals.

Do a lot of people not bother or know about club matches is because they see it as 2nd tier

Why don't they support the clubs? What's stopping them from paying £5 into a league match at their local GAA pitch? Or are they too busy supporting Man U?

People are allowed to choose what matches they enjoy and which ones they go to.
If you were to take your point further, would you question the people who attend your club's senior games as to why they aren't out supporting the minors? The Go Games? Ladies football?
Bottom line is that it's none of your business.
Very much my business when they complain about people like me (paid up GAA members) getting AI QF tickets ahead of them.

Quote from: Duine Inteacht Eile on October 07, 2023, 11:31:34 PMThere is a total disconnect in this argument.
Plenty of people go to club games who aren't paid up members of any club.
Plenty of paid up members don't go to any games.

Though I agree that it makes sense that GAA members should get first dibs on tickets, your self imposed title of club snob and your unrepentant disrespect to other people who enjoy the same sport as you reflects poorly on you.
Yeah, you'll get the same in virtually every sport; where genuine fans look down on the part timers and glory hunters.

Quote from: Duine Inteacht Eile on October 07, 2023, 11:47:48 PMAre you really saying that people who support Armagh but don't go to club games are not genuine fans?
Like in other sports..... Republic of Ireland soccer fans who don't attend League of Ireland fixtures aren't genuine fans?

Really? You believe that?

As I previously asked, do you extend that to your own club? If you aren't at the U14 game, you aren't a genuine fan of the seniors?
You've heard the term "fair weather supporter"?

bennydorano

I've said it before - the big increase in supporting a county team with no club affiliation is another step on the road to semi pro imo. If the disconnect between club & county increases it's only going one way. That probably wouldn't bother county only supporters.

bennydorano

Another thought in my head, presumably a lot of people who don't bother with clubs but go to County games are parents, what do they do with their children? Do they not get them involved in the GAA at a young age?

Eire90

a lot of the names of these club teams are not casual friendly.

You don't pick your club or county based on their name. It is where you are born and grow up or wheee you raise your kids.

I don't know anyone who follows county only
