Laois / Re: Laois Senior Hurling Championship 2019
« on: November 14, 2019, 02:31:31 PM »
There needs to be a hurling specific GDA employed within Portlaoise to work with the schools and club to reinvigorate hurling within the town. The club need a bottom up approach/strategy with meaningful long term goals-set clear/obtainable targets e.g have underage teams all playing at and competing for titles at A championship level by 2024. The demise of Portlaoise hurling is not a quick fix.

It is disappointing that a town of now well over 20,000 cannot supply one current inter-county hurler to starting county team or be at least competitive at senior level within Laois. Cahir is 34 next year and coming off serious injuries- he has been the last really noteworthy hurler that Portlaoise has produced.

Has the move from beside o moore park to well outside the town in rathleague affected  the club in anyway as now juveniles cannot get out unless they are driven by their parents and in this fast hectic society maybe parents cannot get out with the kids either,

beside o moore park it was within walking and cycling distance for them and now the senior teams are been affected?

no surprise to see courtwood emo here in the final as we did predict them strong from the start. i fancy them to go on a win it now. it would be a good year for them if they did and also the future is bright following their minor success.

both them and rosenallis with the quality of young players are ones to watch for the future

rosenallis have had easier draws all along the club championship and the same in the leinster championship so i would not see them stumbling agains the kk champs.  dublin club football outside of senior is not strong at all and also they could have taken the kk football team to lightly and got caught on the hop. rosenallis still fresh as no real hard games and its a definite final for them to cap off a good year.

quirk will get nothing out of that divisional set up, any one that has impressed in it also impressed with their club in the championship and again i have to question the taught behind it after a long season and with leinster and u 20 running.

great win for r/e and after all the losses in leinster this will give them great confidence going forward although st Mullins will provide a stern test but they should come through it.

The circumstances are irrelevant. No U20 player should have played in the Divisional full stop. It wasn't necessary. As I write that, I'm aware that there's no Under 20 manager and the Minor manager has already been ridiculed. So maybe the players just wanted to attach themselves to something that looked half decent. I don't think they belonged there personally, and particularly not at the expense of their club side. As for the competition itself, there's nothing wrong with it. It was obviously popular with players and I'm sure Quirke was happy to see what's out there
Eddie kinsella according to laois today is new u20 manager

Don't disagree at all with limiting to players over 20. Was just reacting to the comment that the divisional set up overall was a farce and no advantage to anyone except charity. Although some clubs will always be against divisional teams (normally stronger clubs), they are typically better for a county overall.

Good article and debate here in the Examiner:

i would not be against a divisional team in a proper championship but what is a player going to prove in a meaningless divisional game at the end of a long season that he has not already done to be noticed for his club in a championship? if a player is good enough to be selected on a laois senior panel he will stand out in championship games where it really counts.

Ratheniska hammered sarsfields yesterday, apparently jack priestley and Sean O'Neill didnt play with sarsfields. They opted to play with the divisional side instead. U20 players shouldn't be selected for the divisional games while the u20 championship is on.
If this is true it is nothing short of a farce
from the start i said this divisional set up was a farce and of no advantage to anyone only the few pound it raises for charity

game did not live up to expectations but there was some tough hitting out there and ground conditions were soft enough but best team won out.

great win for rosenallis but again it was a very disappointing performance from the harps, relying to much on lannigan. centre back for rosenallis was good, although harps did come back at them rosenallis did not panic on the field or the line so maybe they learned something from the football against clonaslee where they nearly threw it away, going to be very tough on them now going through leinster in both codes
