That hit on Marty Clarke was brutal, but it is not typical of most AFL matches, the guys that hit him Amon Buchanan I think, got a one match ban, but it would have been much more but he pleaded guilty and early..

I wouldn't say that - the only thing wrong with it was that Clarke had disposed of the ball, otherwise it would have been OK

That sort of hit is frowned upon by most AFL players and supporters as it was a cowardly act, and Marty had no way of defending himself.

Most supporters love it - that's footy

Sure why wouldn't they? Diving shoulder first into the unprotected head/neck area of a player who is off balance after kicking the ball and unable to defend himself. It's the height of manliness.
[/quote]

Clarke took the hit , got on with it! The other guy admitted it and took his punishment, GAA could learn alot from both attitudes. An incident like that would wrangle on til Xmas in the GAA, with appeals and resolutions and authorites and CCCCCC's etc.

Agree with Lynchboy, wrong decision, makes it look like it's ok to throw a punch! Also opens up grounds for appeal if the same happens on Sunday and the player gets the line!

Disagree. On what basis?

Same crime, no suspension one week and 3 month suspension the next. Type of inconsistency that opens the door for trouble!

whatever way you look at it the fact he got off makes a joke of the the rules, he punched a fellower player and it is seen as alrite!

Very Short memory Tankie do you?
I remember C Whelan getting away with punching a Meath player a few years just as the ball was being thrown in to start the game

Don't remember a ref looking at a video for that one and deciding it was still ok? But why let the truth get in the way of your bitterness?

Even better, put the money into proper development of Thurles/Portlaoise/Cork/Navan/wherever into proper 40k+ venues where AI semi-finals etc. can be held. I'm sure there'd also be plenty of interested tenants.
Sure why waste money on people who aren't that interested in our games would be better spent on coaching .

What people?
The people who cant be bothered to travel to Croker , sure you could have a All-Ireland Semi final in Kerry and still only get 5k fans

You reckon that is a realistic scenario?? Explain....
Well i'm sure the GAA would charge an extra tenner as its a Semi Final game and sure that would break the lot of them and lets not forget the price of petrol .

In all fairness Gnevin, if Corke Park existed outside of Dublin, the dubs wouldnt travel to the games in the hoards that they travel in to Croke Park.

There was an All-Ireland semi final reply in Thurlus where Dublin were playing Kerry and most of ye got lost on the way down because you didnt know how long it would take to get there.

And those slights and comments about an extra tenner breaking people from down the country and the price of petrol etc are a disgrace. There is more poverty and crime in Dublin per cap than in the rest of the country. So how dare you make fun of people because of what they may or may not be able to afford. Sort out your own problems before you go around saying that people cant afford to travel and that a dearer ticket is the reason people dont travel to our shit hole of a capital.

Croke Park might be in Dublin but you dont own it, you triumphant Dublin w**ker

Speaking of bitter little men................. U try to prove someone's bitter by being 10 times as bitter yourself???

Anyone else think Jack O'Shea would make a good addition as a panelist? Wasn't afraid to speak out on a couple of things, also had some nice praise for Masterson. Liked his joke about the no. of All-Ireland the 3 boys have played in.

'We've played in about 16 All Ireland finals between us, 14 for me and 1 each for the 2 lads' or something along those lines!

However Dublin are unlikely to get another sympathetic referee which may reduce Vaughan's influence on the game.
Ah c'mon, no need for the whining. There was no doubt about any of the frees Vaughan kicked over.

7 - 2

So which one's weren't frees? Can only think of 1 myself.
sorry, I include in that figure a couple of incorrect decisions that resulted in Dublin scores - either a free to dublin or a free that should have been given to Derry.
The count was 5-0 at ht. I certainly recall at least two 'soft' frees that I would have loved to have benefited from the like when I was a forward playing the game. Also the 45 was a free out - shoulder to shoulder is fine, but two hands to chest and push over the end line is a free out - irrespective of how often this seems to be allowed these days.

It did only dawn on me when Bradley missed that easy free in the 2nd half how few fress Derry had got! Don't remember roaring at the ref too much, so he can't have been too bad to Dublin!

Good lord, what is it with teams in blue and white this year whinging about everything after a defeat?

Kennelly would walk back onto any GAA team in the country - simple as that. The fact is that it's harder to convert to AFL from GAA than vice versa, and the only substantial reason for this is the difference in the shape of the ball, it's a lot easier for anyone to read the bounce of a round ball than an oval one - fact.

That's not what they think in Oz. Funniest thing I ever heard was when I was in Adelaide at one of the compromise rules games, the Ozi's in the crowd whinging that their lads couldn't judge the bounce of the round ball!

Also played the game when I was out there and yes it is difficult to adapt to kicking the oval ball. One of the more didfficult things was to get out of the habit of landing the ball in front of a guy so that he could run onto it on after a bounce (like u would in Gaelic). Obviously once the oval ball it hits the ground in front of a guy it can go anywhere!

The thing i love about LaoisLad is how about a month ago he was complaining about Dublin pubs showing soccer all the time, now he is saying its ok to watch soccer!

It's nice to know you love me Tankie...BTW what soccer was on a month ago? and where did i say that?

Probably one of those muppets that wears the Liverpool jersey to Laois matches when they're playing Cork and wonders why people keep calling him a langer!

How did your Leaving Cert results go today Romeo or are you waiting on your Junior Cert results?

The old one's are the best eh??

Laoislad, if u got rid of the Liverpool crest u wouldn't have to fend off these accusations every week! U obviously don't get irony or else u just enjoy the attention!

Why should i get rid of it? And where is the irony? I have been a Liverpool fan since i was 4 years old thats over 24 years and my Grandfather was from there so why should i get rid of my avatar.Im also a Gaa man and love my county but it seems some lads think you can't love both ::)

I dunno, just seems to me your asking for any slagging (on a GAA message board) u get with it and ur always very sensitive about it! My first impression when I saw it was, this lads obviously more into Liverpool than anything else so wtf would he know about GAA. Now I know ur into GAA, but that's the 1st impression I got and I'm sure most others get!

Like i give a f**k what people think or what they get about me or don't get about me ::)
I live life the way i want to not someones elses idea of how i should so if i want to have a Liverpool crest as a avatar i will and if i want to follow soccer and gaa and f**king tiddlywinks if i want i will too alright
You shouldn't be so shallow as to make an first impression on someone by what sort of a avatar they use on a internet forum, how they f**k would you know what i know or don't know about gaa,What a ridiculous thing to say that someone knows nothing about gaa because they support a soccer team

For someone who doesn't care about what others think u sure spend a lot of time defending it on here. Judging by the anger there it seems you're very worried about it.
I was just letting u know the impression it gives, just a bit of advice, keep her chilled there! Not that u care what anyone thinks or anything!  ::) ::)
