Criminal to let Cork in for that very late goal. Just foul and the game is over. Cynicism that young lads don't have yet I suppose.

Ah these things happen in minor, the Galway no 3 Rory king is having a great game.

Cracking game of football fair play to both teams!! I think Galway look a little fitter and would fancy them to edge it in extra time.

i have to say that Andy Moran is a sound man. Well able to talk, some good stories and came accross very well. Honest and genuine ..... Id say hes good buachaill to go for a few pints with.
Just a normal Roscommon man. ;)

Fast forward to 29 mins in the video and Andy confirms he knows what county he is from ;)

"You are on about that game in 2006. Never mind the game itself, the game was brilliant but the atmosphere around it like!! We drove into my town , my town would be the first town going into Mayo!! Okay well we say Mayo so my town is the first town in Mayo!!"

Kerry need to dominate midfield especially on their own kick outs. I have a feeling they will do okay on Dublin's restarts. If they can dominate mid field then they can either run at the Dubs with O'Brien or get quick direct ball into Clifford. On the face of it you would predict that with enough ball the Kerry forwards will hit say the 2-20 that Michael Murphy put forward as the target to beat the Dubs but the more I think about it I am not so sure.
I think the Dub full back line will hold up okay against Clifford and Geaney and I think the Dublin half back line could dominate the Kerry half forwards which will put more pressure on the Kerry midfield. While Tom O' Sullivan will give Kilkenny his fill I just don't see(outside of mid field domination) how Kerry will handle O' Callaghan, Mannion and Rock or the running of Scully and Howard. Then you have Costello and Connolly to bolster the troops if needed!!!
Hopefully it will be a tight game and Kerry certainly don't lack confidence to go toe to toe with the Dubs but I just think the Dubs find their rhythm early and win by 7 or 8!!

Dublin are going to put serious pressure on Ryan in goals and I think he's going to crack.
If you look at the periods where Dublin go to town and get a string of scores against teams, what's noticeable is the pressure they put on the opposition's kickouts.

What really surprised me in the Tyrone game was how little pressure Tyrone seemed to mange to put on Ryan's kickouts - I was expecting them to give him a far harder time. Based on the games I saw in the Super 8, it looked like a blatant weakness.

After goalkeeper I think this Kerry's teams biggest weakness is midfield as opposed to in the backs.
You take Moran out of midfield and the rest of the Kerry midfielders look more like Division 3/Division 4 quality.

Unfortunately for those of us who want to see a close game I think you are right and Kerry will struggle big time in midfield. Great forwards won't do much against the Dublin backs if they can't get the ball!!

Although I hated him with a passion when he was wearing the maroon of Crossmolina I would have Ciaran Mac just ahead of Andy.

People pay far too much attention to him.

Some Tyronie on recent thread said (in the context of Stephen O'Brien's black card) that there was a national tirade when Cavanaugh took down McManus that time.

There was no national tirade. Joe had a meltdown. All you should do is laugh at him. Every other person who knows anything about GAA said they would have done exactly the same thing! Only Joe was outraged. Let him be outraged, but don't turn it into a national copycat event!

There are differing opinions on Holmes-Connelly. Not all, but the majority of the Mayo lads thought it was right for them to go, and that they'd got the job in the first place in dubious circumstances. So as a neutral I'd go with that, rather than any nonsense Joe spurts.

They do and i do find it slightly humorous that some still don't realise that Joe the pundit on RTE or the columnist on the Indo is a long running gimmick.  Mayo are easy prey for him as anything he writes or says about them good or bad produces loads of viewers. Basically Joe is not as stupid as he acts and has his own audience in the palm of his hand.

I think you give Joe too much credit and it is more a case of RTE and the Indo taking advantage of his fantansy ego as a "true gael" or "fíor gael" as a great Tyrone man once put it!!!

You should do speeches, in a home.

Does the home have sky?

The inference being it was so long winded and boring it would send one to sleep, so best being reclined to listen, your inference being?

How so? I managed to read it.

As someone not particularly well informed about the ins and outs of Mayo football  i personally thought it was a very well constructed and interesting post.

definitely interesting. going by twitter it appears joe has some undisclosed interest in what's going on with the mayo squad that is driving this latest vendetta. he refuses to respond to anyone who asks him about it and just keeps doubling down on the story about them getting rid of the management. it seems theres way more to the story than meets the eye and brolly has some personal involvement that he doesn't want to discuss publicly. wouldn't be surprised if his latest tirade hasn't anything to do with management heaves at all and more because aidan oshea or someone wouldn't talk to him at a party or some such. incredible that a national newspaper and more pertinently the national broadcaster are paying him to stage what is looking increasingly more like a personal crusade against amateur players over something that happened privately between them. why are his personal grudges being given this kind of airtime

Hmmm now that you say it, Brolly's current woman was involved with the management team in some form or other for that year.

Yep she was the logistics manager.

I like you Farr would be up for the Dubs in the final. It has nothing to do with wanting to prove an argument about unfairness in funding( although there is merit in a debate about the current structure of funding) or football styles as while I like certain styles of football (especially the way Dublin, Kerry, Roscommon, Armagh and now Donegal play) most All Ireland winners I have seen would play great football to win along the way. For me it is to see an exceptional team do something no senior inter county team has done before in the history of the GAA and the fact that while Kerry are underdogs for this game they are not really an underdog in football terms considering they have 36 titles to their name!!

It is no coincidence that the game has veered back towards a much better defence/attack balance since the Dubs have hoovered up All Irelands. Around about the time that Donegal won an AI in 2012 and for a period after that, coaches across the country were trying to ape the Jimmy McGuinness template both at club, county and schools level. The Dubs have helped reverse that trend.

Coaching and management trends tend to ape the tactics of successful county teams and for that reason Dublin have helped to improve the spectacle across the country even though the extreme negative tactics have not completely disappeared.

Very true and it is great to see but in fairness to McGuinness, Donegal played great football in 2012 and especially against us in the final to win Sam.

Well done to the Dubs. That first 10 mins of the second half was just awesome and is the best I have seen from the Dubs ever and maybe any football team I have seen in the flesh!!

Gavin got it perfect with the way the identified how weak Hennelly's kick outs are and exposed ruthlessly this big weakness with typical Gavin military precision!! Then throw on top natural flare of Paul Mannion who kicked one of the best points I have ever seen in front of me under the Cusack stand. Fenton then topped it off with a superb catch where he soared above three Mayo men to pluck the ball out of the sky!!

Moysider summed it up well that we actually controlled the ball well in the first half like we have never really done before in a big game in Croker but I felt despite this we still seemed a little flat footed despite bringing good intensity to the game.
Unfortunately the Hennelly experiment fell well short again. Nobody would honestly argue he is a better keeper than Clarke or better player so the main argument for starting him is his better restarts! Again as happens more often than not, these better restarts didn't really appear as Robbie nervously kicked balls straight to Dublin players immediately putting Mayo on the back foot even when we were on top in the first half!! If Horan can't come up with a plan for Clarke's kick outs then he needs to look elsewhere for a keeper because you give up to much in terms of leadership, composure and goalkeeping play for the hope that Hennelly might have a rare good day with his limited range of restarts!!

We need to improve a good bit with our delivery into the full forward line as in the first half Cillian and James Carr were showing well for the ball but we couldn't work the opening for direct quick ball into them and hence the lack of goal chances created in the first half. As good a game as Paddy Durcan had in terms of defending and work rate he really needs to get his head up more and not try too hard to take on impossible scores. Also I was very disappointed on how our more experienced players completely lost composure going for impossible goals after the Dublin blitz of 1-2 instead of working easier points to keep the scoreboard ticking over which might have slowed the Dublin onslaught and mentally kept us in the game a bit longer.

Overall though I think Horan has done well introducing the younger players into the team without tearing it all down and while there will be some retirements and some more older players moved on from, Mayo can continue to evolve and improve next year and hopefully be in the mix at the business end of the championship over the next few years.
It's a real pity that Mayo ran up against the Dubs and lost 3 all Irelands to them
Galway lost 3 in the 70s and it's never easy.
I remember 2012 thinking they would do it. Got so close.  Brought so much respect to the county.
Galway hurlers have a very bad finals record as well but managed it in 2017. I hope post GAA reform that Mayo will finally do it.
The feeling is unbeatable.

Galway footballer lost three finals in a row in the forties then licked their wounds and returned in the fifties with the duo of Purcell and Stockwell so hopefully we in Mayo can continue to evolve work hard and get better!!

Hard luck Mayo, 10 minutes Blitz was all that was required in the end. Dublin only scored 1-02, the same as Mayo, outside this period in the 2nd half. Unfair on Mayo to come into this match with a 1 week break.

No real sympathy for Mayo overall, always nice keeping them down.

Is Horan's 70k a year worth it?
Especiaslly when Jim Gavin is only volunteers his timet to the cause.

As fo O'Connor, if that was Connolly, imagine, just imagine the social and mainstream outrage, i will say no more but he should be off the panel, too much baggage, cant be trusted.
Where did you hear this? First I have heard about it. Can't disagree with you about O'Connor. Unfortunately,he has earned himself a hard man's reputation and I honestly think he does believe in getting his retaliation in first a lot of the time. Contrast that with Aidan O'Shea. He gets more abuse, verbal and physical than any other I can think of but he can be compared with O'Connor in this regard.
It's a pity but that's the way I see it; he has earned a bad reputation and isn't likely to get the benefit of the doubt from most referees.

I have no proof but believe my source, i wouldnt say hes doing it for nothing. I dont want to witch hunt any player and i will leave it at that Re: O Connor, i wont be opening a thread on a single player and let it run for 110 pages because he put a finger on a linesman.

Yeah but just a former player and manager right though? Your full of shit and just because that Connolly thread was bullshit or the crap about Dublin players not having jobs or conspiracy theories that Dublin players are juiced up doesn't excuse that you are full of shite and will spew and or believe any old bollix you hear about the hill 16 hate figures like O'Shea, Keegan, Horan, Andy Moran etc...
The great Randy Newman had a song called small people and you should have a listen to it you might find it interesting!!

Sorry, you will find me in the Hogan stand these days. I dont hate anyone,  i understand a lot of these guys have lives to get on with the next day, i am not like others on this forum with personal and libel attackes on players.

I do believe it should be open to the Public what managers are getting paid. It would cut out  a lot of these " rumours".

Again you are talking complete bullshit. You have no problem having a go at any Mayo player on here or anything connected with Mayo football or posting some bullshit statement about your perception of how Mayo get all the decisions from refs or more whataboutery on Mayo's finances or James Horan's supposed payments while posting all this anonymously on a internet forum and constantly sniping at Mayo but then coming out with a mealy mouthed I don't hate any county statement and sure good luck anyway blah blah blah!!
Provide some facts to back up your rumours or at least have the balls to stand by your sneaky comments and insults or just keep them to yourself. You would swear the Dubs had 68 year famine and were not going for a historic five in a row with the miserable threads, bollix bar stool philosopher posts and bullshit lies you spew about Mayo on here for the last couple of years.

You must be getting me confused with a few of the Mayo posters on here. Again i wont be drawn into personal attacks, attack the post, not the poster, il leave it at that.

As I said have the balls to stand by the tripe you post and if you can't back it up then don't post it. You don't have to be drawn into personal attacks as you blindly attack certain Mayo players and management both directly and indirectly in the majority of your posts. You engage in whataboutery about Mayo posters and other posters post this and that about Dublin but then post more rumors and lies about Mayo players, managers and Mayo in general in here over and over and over!!
There is a confused poster in this thread but I will give you a clue I am not that poster so try and solve this puzzle!!!

Kerry will need to win midfield and get 1 on 1s with our full back line.

Couple of selection dilemmas for Gavin:

O'Sullivan v Macauley
- Cian always plays really well against his parents' county. Looked sharp when he came on on Saturday. MDMA was his usual mix of power and unorthodoxy with that little bit of recklessness thrown in. Saw stats that said he had more possessions than any other Dub in the first half, and I did think at the time he was doing more than most to keep us in the contest at that time. We'll be weaker in the air if McCarthy starts midfield with Cian at 6, which might help give Kerry a foothold. But Cian will give a bit of added protection to the full back line and we'll have the wrecking ball as an impact sub.

Byrne v Fitzsimons v McMahon v Murchan (2 from 4)
- Most would rate Byrne 4th out of these, but formwise he's been the best this championship, and he doubled down on that on Saturday. Possibly his best game in a Dubs jersey. Fitz got a bit of a run around for a while v Carr (I was wondering for a while whether there was a deliberate policy to let them shoot rather than risk giving COC frees, but I don't think so!). Philly's a proven performer in All Ireland finals (and his chances of playing would increase if Tommy Walsh was starting), while Murchan might just be the ideal man to shackle Stephen O'Brien.   My guess is he'll stick with Byrne and Fitz, but it could be any 2.

I'd say Rory and Berno will be doing all they can over the next 2 weeks to try force themselves into the 26, but difficult to see any openings.

As a neutral Hound, I would keep McAuley in midfield as I think he will really trouble any of the Kerry midfielders with his physicality in the engine room and his direct running could carve open Kerry down the center of their defence.
Byrne has done excellent since coming into the team so I would give him the nod as well and Murchan could be an option off the bench quieten somebody like O'Brine if needed.
I would be tempted to start McMahon as he is a very crafty defender and he can get forward bringing his man with him at the right time.
If Brogan is fully fit I would definitely have him and Connolly on the bench to bring on for the last 15 mins when the Kerry backs are beginning to wane.
