GAA Discussion / Re: Spillane 'attacked' by Donegal fans
September 06, 2012, 10:37:11 PM
Pat Spillane along with other pundits have a propensity for sh"£etalk but anyone who takes their comments serious enough to what to assault them needs their head seen to. This was an unprovoked assault and Pat would have been entitled to make a complaint to the Garda.  Pat does not manage any teams nor do most pundits and as such they are out of touch with the reality of management which is delivering results as opposed to the romantic notion of playing attractive football.

with dungannon losing again last night, brackaville are now in the driving seat for a junior double.
Junior Championship is wide open in my opinion fancy Brocagh to finally sneak a championship their win over Dungannon will have boosted confidence ahead of a tough tie against Fintona in the Championship.

Moy looked a poor enough outfit last night but to be fair stuck at it for their result. It was nice to see Sean make a return and have a hand in knocking out the team that I believe forced his injury in the first place. Hear a couple of the Hill lads were asking Sean last night which shoulder it was so they could do the same again...Dromid Abu :D :D.
The most intelligent quote of the night has to go to Mickey Rea who tells Moy coach Paul Rouse to 'head away back to Brackaville you c#nt', priceless!!
Sean Cavanagh caused his injury by attempting to take Cathal O'Neill out in the Moy, luckily Cathal dodged Sean and he hit the ground with force injuring himself. The score that Sean hit wonderful that it was should never have been Eunan Deeney committed a foul which when unpunished, a chance presented itself which ended in a score. You heard a couple of Hill lads asked Sean about his shoulder well assuming they were wrongly accused of causing the injury in the first place is it any wonder they'd be sarcastic though from what I heard the Sean Cavanagh pulled the Derrytresk full back to the ground and then grabbed him in the headlock and was diving all over the place looking cheap frees. Dromid Abu do you realise how childish that comment is obviously you have a gripe with the Hill? Phillip Jordan even condenmed Dromid in that whole episode and what that has got to do with a match between the Moy and Derrytresk baffles me. Paul Rouse was a disgrace deserves to be suspended for his actions and Colm Cavanagh well less said the better. Have to laugh at people putting certain County players on a pedestal. You aren't allowed to tackle them, they never do anything wrong etc etc. Referees and officials bowing to County Players only makes them soft and when our teams go down south they don't get the same favours.

after seeing the tyrone game i think they were very much physically lacking against a big strong meath side in a tight pitch like newry.sean molloy perhaps would have made a difference with his physical presence. i think if the game were in croke park tyrone would have won handy enough big pitch would have suited them  more id say.well done to meath bouncing back so strongly after a very bad defeat to dublin.just goes to show when you fall pick yourself back up again until you get your day
If you saw the full game you would have seen that Tyrone threw the game away although had they won it would have been tough luck on Meath. Tyrone with a minute to go took the lead by a point although from the resulting kick out they failed to pick the Meath backs up allowing them to take a quick kick out they also failed (I'll get nailled on this point) to cynically foul Meath out of scoring range before the goal allowing Meath to work a goal chance. This was defensive niavety at its best. They then won the kickout and worked a goal chance and had McGahan passed to Bradley it would have been amazingly a two point win for Tyrone instead he ran was fouled as he shot for goal and we had a free. Overall I was very disappointed with Tyrone over the hour their teamwork, support play and passing at times left a lot to be desired. Meath will give any team a run for their money and I wouldn't be shocked if its a Meath Dublin Final. Defensively and on break ball Tyrone were abysmal the Meath goal on 15 seconds from the throw in was shocking.  That said there is ability in that minor side although if they are to progress at u21 a lot of them will need to take a hard look at themselves.

Dissapointing that no Ulster Minor teams are contesting AI semi Finals although the Minor Championship is very much flawed Kerry have been beaten twice this year and yet find themselves in a SF. Dublin are the only Provincial winner left and might I add I think they'll win the AI. Tipperary, Roscommon and Tyrone were all First time losers and yet they're out. I think that Tyrone exhibited a niavety against Meath which resulted in their defeat especially in the closing stages. Meath are a good side so maybe we shouldn't be so disappointed.

GAA Discussion / Re: Donegal v Kerry AIQF

I was impressed by both teams on Sunday to be fair to Kerry they didn't throw in the towel despite the loss of a few key men. Donegal did fall asleep and if they do this against Cork they will be punished. I felt that Kerry's jubliation in defeating us (Tyrone) was a bit pathetic  given that they had only defeated a team who was a pale shadow of 2008 and felt that ultimately they would be found out on the bigger stage which has happened. We have a hard times ahead of us in Tyrone and I'm not convinced we will be AI contenders for a long time our underage startlets do not seem to be able to cut the mustard and none are of the ilk of the men of 98. Kerry face a similar fate if O'Mahoney, the O'Se's, Brosnan and Galvin call it day any time soon and time is not on their side. There is also the question of who will manage Kerry in 2013? I feel that whoever manages Kerry faces the prospect of rebuilding the team coupled with unrealistic expectations of some fans. To conclude only a fool would write of the Green and Gold and I'd be surprised if they're not still playing football in August 2013 but maybe they won't be the force they were.

Kounty your right about Kerry they should have been out after they were defeated by Tipperary earlier in the Munster Championship this gives Munster Counties an advantage and highlights a very clear flaw in the Minor Championship given that Roscommon and Tyrone hae lost once yet they are out. The only team who are unbeaten left are Dublin and having saw a bit of their game against Monaghan I think the Dubs will win the AI very fast, great support play, quick counter attacks and some super scores. I was very disappointed with Tyrone I thought we were contenders although last nights game highlighted their weakness poor midfield and poor on breaks. We also kicked a lot of scoreable chances wide. The last couple of minutes epitomise how much lads at Minor have to learn. We somehow managed to get back in front by a point with time almost up and should have been thinking are we ready for the Meath kickout?? instead Meath took a quick kickout to an unmarked player worked the ball up the field and which ended up in the Tyrone net. Tyrone then seconds later had a goal chance to win McGahan went alone ignoring Bradley who was in an odds on position to score. All in all too on too many occasions Tyrone players failed to support players and gifted possession to Meath who duly punished. This is Tyrones first Defeat and a difficult one to take although hopefully they will learn from it and make progress in u21s. Fancy a Meath Dublin AI Final.

This is the most intriguing game after Kildare v Cork of the the AI quarter Finals. Donegal after a slow start in the Ulster Final blew Down away. Tyrone got to within 2 points of Donegal and Kerry beat us out the gate in Killarney so Kerry will probably feel that they have the firepower to put Donegal away just about. This is the biggest test for Donegal's credentials as All Ireland contenders, if they win the All Ireland this year no one can say that they will have won a soft AI as it is likely they will have to Beat Kerry, Cork and Dublin. I was in the dislike camp in terms of how Donegal played last year, but now they're style is  beginning to grow on me. Although their gameplan is built on being extremely defensive last year they struggled to get the ball to their inside forwards this year they counter attack with greater speed with Frank McGlynn making some very dangerous runs out of Defence his goal and Murphys second half points last week demonstrate how they have moved on. Kerry will ask serious questions of they're defence although with plenty of bodies back Gooch and Co will find the going a lot tougher than they did against us. The Donegal defence will also have to be on top of their game  and not cough off soft frees as Sheehan's dead ball expertise  is worth at least 2-3 points a game. Midfield will also be a battle Maher was very impressive against us and Bradley is probably Donegals most improved player all in all hope our club football dosen't clash with this game can't wait to sit down and watch,it'll certainly make for gripping viewing.

Are the venues for these games being decided this weekend? Saw highlights of Dublin v Meath. Meath shipped three very soft goals no doubt they will tighten up the next day. Also saw highlights of Tipp v Kerry, Tipperary were very impressive even when they went behind they didn't panic and came back and finished very strong. At the minute I think it'll be a Dublin Tipperary Final.

To be fair Mickey has a lot on his plate I don't envy what the Harte family have had to endure good knows they've more important things on their minds than football, but your right the no matter how good a defence is they are always going to be on the back foot with the current tactics. The best defence in the country would struggle to deal with a frequent supply of good early ball against the likes of Cooper, Brogan and Connolly. Thats why I make the suggestion about freshening  up the back room team. Mickey has masterminded some great victories for Tyrone in the past and I'm sure he is the man to continue managing us and mould a new team I don't see anyone better than him within the county.

GAA Discussion / Tyrone 2013 and beyond!

Without doubt Kerry will be AI contenders this year and no one will fancy meeting them from here on. Albeit Tyrone were unable to start SON, SC, RON, KC, JMcM, RMcN against Kerry ruthlessly exposed the inadequacies in the Tyrone team and their tactics. The short kickout strategy is not working Dublin and Kerry have both exposed this system by filtering bodies back turning over possession and kicking early ball into space to dangerous forwards Brogan, Cooper and Connolly who thrived on a)The early ball and b) the huge space and duly punished Tyrone by racking up scores. Tyrone need to change their strategy somewhat by getting their kickouts futher out the field like Cluxton can deliver and improve on winning break ball they were abysmal against Kerry who totally dominated this sector. Our Forward line is malfunctioning too Mark Donnelly is not a CHF we have not replaced BMG whose vision and compusure created plenty of scores in the past. We also don't have scoring inside forwards. I believe that MH is the man to take Tyrone forward although it could take a couple of years I know they upped the ante in terms of fitness training this year and they will have do this next year also. I would suggest maybe a shake up, of the backroom team to freshen things up new ideas would be good rather than nodding heads. Their are likely to be retirements also and maybe there are players from the club scene should be looked at such as Connor McAliskey, Michael O'Neill, Colm Doris, Peter McGahan, Niall Sludden, Kevin Mossey, Shane Mulgrew, Gavin Teague, Cathal O'Neill, Niall Gavin, Liam Gervin, Finbar McQuaid, Sean Warnock, Tomas Canavan to name a few and see if they  a) Have ability to play for the County and b) Have the commitment. With the greatest respect to Ronan McNamee some of the lads named are better than him imo. In 2013 I wouldn't expect much hopefully survive in Div 1 and a reasonable championship showing. Another thing that needs addressed is the poor preformances of our u21s we can't translate All Ireland Minor glory to U21 level for some reason which is probably a reason why we are where we are at senior also.

The 2012 All Ireland Championship will be won by one of the following five Cork, Dublin/Donegal, Mayo/Kerry. Cork, Donegal and the Dubs stand out for me, Mayo have been impressive this year and I like the look of some of their players such as Vaughan, McLaughlin, Moran and O'Connor although I'm still not convinced if they'll win the All Ireland, James Horan has done a fantastic job to date and I would love to see them end their All Ireland hoodoo. Kerry despite the impressive win over Tyrone aren't as great as some may think after that win although on their day they could beat any of the above if they all preform.

Those who stayed behind at the end of the game are the true GAA people of Kerry unlike the Ole chanting or Joe Duffy calling types who are an embarrassment to Kerry. That said we have our fair share of edjuts as I'm sure so do most other counties. Where now for Tyrone we need scoring forwards, a midfield that can compete at least 50/50 and a sticky defence. I know we had up on 6 absentees on Saturday and a lot of those lads will be back in 2013 but we are likely to see the retirement of 6 players also. Hopefully we can stay in Division 1 and get to at least the Q/F in 2013. Has anyone an opinion on players who could strengthen the current panel or a change of tactics (the short kick out strategy isn't working).
