Apparently Ian McCrea's now had his car burnt out overnight. Whoever did that is a bigger sc**bag, they're doing nothing to help the GAA by doing that. You can be sure they don't even play or are involved with a club

Unfortunately you can be sure of no such thing. Shameful.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already.

I await the indignant outrage.

QuoteRacist? How? Snobbish? How?

Seriously? I'd love to know this definition of pikey you're using.

The Connolly comment was a sarcastic dig at your claiming of superior understanding of republicanism given your apparently daily mail Tory view of the world.

Yes, very serious. "Pikey"is a term in common usage today to describe the type of person who engaged in the aforementioned riots. I still fail to see either snobbery or racism.

Yes, I object to a shower of scumbags destroying the streets of Dublin therefore I'm a tory. What splendid application of the human capacity for logical reasoning. Have a gold star.

Racist and snobbish. The spirit of Connolly is alive and well...

Racist? How? Snobbish? How? Your hole the spirit of Connolly is alive and well. It certainly doesn't live on among the likes of the Love Ulster Parade rioters or lads setting bins on fire when lizzie windsor was here.

How often does the Cup of Nations be played? This used to be a problem with the Copa America, up until a few years ago it was played every 2 years, but now it's every 4. Looking forward to seeing Neymar myself, but going by what I've read in the build-up, I'm more interested to see Ganso, who also plays for Santos.

It's played every 2 years. Currently it is in even numered years, so one in every two competitions clashes with the world cup. They are changing this so that there is no clash. There will be a tournament in 2012, and then in 2013, then 2015 etc.

Wouldn't say it is a shame Mexico are sending a second string side, you can't really blame them after already having a full tournament behind them, and that full tournament is their primary football association and involves the countries in their continent.

The next one isn't until Brazil in 2015. It is now a four year as far as I know.

You fear people like me because you are an establishment drone. Change in Ireland will only ever come when sufficient numbers of the Irish I people stand up and demand better than the shower of criminals, traitors and incompetents who have misled the people for generations. I oppose the 26C army as they are the military wing of said criminals, traitors and incompetents and if the people do rise up it will used as a repressionary force against them.

Any suggestions on how to go about this or are you just an anti-establishment drone?

The way to go about it, imo, is through mass protest and action by sufficient numbers of the people. There will come a time when conditions get so bad that the conditioning of the people will not be enough to keep them cowed. Then you will see mass protest and general strikes, not unlike what is going on in Greece. The people need to stand up and demand much better than the criminal corruption and incompetence which has served for government to date. When that time comes it'll be interesting to see where the 26C army stands.

You'll never see the likes of what's going on in Greece on Irish streets. Unless you're a pikey f**k in Dublin with nothing better to do than pretend to be a Republican when you can barely spell the word, never mind understand it.

By the way Cáthasaigh, the name of the army of the Irish State areThe Irish Defence Forces &/or Óglaigh na h-Eireann. They are the only legitimate organisation to bear that name.

http://www.military.ie/

That's bollocks too because the majority of Óglaigh Na H-Eireann voted against the treaty and as such those who founded the free state army were deserters from Óglaigh H-Eireann. That's the reality, plain and simple. Óglaigh Na H-Eireann was the IRA - The Peoples' Army.

Don't dare sully the memory of the men and women who fought, died and suffered in the ranks for the betterment of their people, for no personal gain by attempting to misplace their mantle on a professional arm of the client, crony gombín state.

You'd almost think the army was supposed to serve the state rather than itself, wouldn't you?

Just bought the fight. Not too sure what to make of it. Don't think it will be explosive, certainly not FOTY but it is definitely what heavyweight needs at the minute.

For all he can run his mouth to sell seats and PPV buys, Haye is a very, very smart boxer. He stuck to a horrible to watch gameplan against Valuev. I'd expect something similar but Wladimir is twice the boxer Valuev was, although that doesn't say all that much. Regardless of who wins, heavyweight will still be in dire straits.

Nally, your rush to attack mghu here without ever expressing agreement with the opinions of this new fella speaks volumes. Very cheap point scoring.

A good friend of mine is a young officer in the Irish Army and I'm damn proud of him. I'm also damn proud of his commanding officer and colleagues who helped him bury his girlfriend after a car crash and were there for him when many others couldn't be. I really don't give a f**k what someone thinks about a particular legacy from the era of the civil war.

As to the original question, I find the tabloid attitude copied from the English papers to be cringeworthy.

General discussion / Re: HTC and Android
June 22, 2011, 11:49:18 PM
Have the Deisre HD myself. Like a lot of HTC phones the battery life is crap, particularly for this phone. Iphone wins hands down when it comes to battery life.

On every other front I absolutely prefer an Android phone. I do like the HTC phones but think they load Sense with too much rubbish that you can't remove unless you lock the phone. I bought Launcher Pro Plus and it is excellent with the latest version of Android.

The newest version of Swype is outstanding. You can go back and tap on any word, no matter how far back in the text to correct a predictive text error.

Must have apps are either of Tweetdeck or Hootsuite, What's App, Soccer Livescores, GAA News and Tune In Radio. Viber beta was released last week (months late) - had my first call on it this evening in a low 3G coverage area and it was fantastic call quality, better than the Skype app.

It will get interesting soon enough. This is the summer where clubs will get all their done before the UEFA regulations come into force. The biggest transfer so far is the capture of Alexis Sanchez by Barcelona which might signal the end of David Villa`s short spell at Barcelona. Imo they will sell him to fund a move for Fabregas with Villa looking very ordinary for a long spell last season.

Not even a sniff of a glimmer of hope of that happening.

Explain to me and to everyone how my above post is narrow minded based on my allegiance?

I didn't once mention your allegiance, which frankly, I don't care about.

What I described as narrow-minded is the fact that your opinion of both McIlroy and Clarke is to some extent defined by their allegiances.

Some of the talk on this thread is embarrassing.

From what I know of him, McIloy is a likable, down to earth, all round nice guy. He appears to like nothing better than coming home and hanging out with his mates in the Belfast spots any other 22 year old would go to. Who gives a toss about his politics or allegiance?

Sligonian, I remember you had a problem with Marty Clarke writing NI for "Northern Ireland" on his arm during his Collingwood tenure so forgive me if I, or anybody else, cares a damn what you think.

+1

Is that a catholic plus or a protestant plus?
That is a ridiculou series of posts mbarrasing stuff, i never once mentioned anything negative regarding mcilroys nationality or religion have come on here looking to be offended and spout yer moral police rubbish that fits in nicely with yere egos, i said i think hes a dick from stuff hes said in the past, I dont have to like to him just because ye or puckoon say so. Ye really need to look at yereselves and read my posts properly, do i really have to bump my post up again... i cant see the releavance on marty clarke and i cant remember what i said tbh, but just goes to show how bitter some of ye are to remember something i siad 3/4 yrs ago..

+1 Fair play to Clarke some sessions ahead , congrats to rory, i still think hes a bit of dick but what he did over the last weekend was phenonmenal, i thought he'd blow it but credit where its due it showed some balls to win after only 17 days since Augusta, Its great to see the older players rallying round him too wanting to share his triumph.

When i saw the Tri colour being thrown i cringed tbh, its an Irish thing once theres international success we try claim him/her if theres a doubt of nationality. Let him be who he wants to be.
bumped, maybe when yourreplying to my posts you could quote it in future, i dont have to defend anything i said, just the usual reposts saying i something completely different without quote.

I'm not going to go and search for a post that is a couple of years old, but I specifically know you expressed the fact you were "disappointed" that Clarke wrote "NI" on his arm as you assumed it meant the Norn Iron Saccer team.

The relevance is, as pointed out above, this isn't the first time you've expressed such narrow minded opinions on one of our country's top young stars based on their allegiances.
