Was a yellow card challenge.. couldn't have got a red just for that.. did the linesman see a couple of boxes thrown in the aftermath?? Very strange decision

McFaul said the Glen lads were back at Owenbeg on Wednesday.

Cavanagh talking about "Hurlers in the ditch" and Derry people having a history of it. Unlike himself, having a swipe at Mickey/Tyrone tactics as soon as he retires from county football.  ::)
He also seemed to give begrudging credit to Mickey for getting over the line in 2003. He's a strange man.

The lack of consistency in the application of the neck high challenges is bizarre. Some just a free, some a yellow card and one a black card.

And gettin surrounded by players sometimes is over carrying and other times it's a free the other way.

Have to agree with Oso, the ref was poor between the 58th and 60th minute..

he missed a blatant black card rugby tackle by O'Carroll after his shot was superbly blocked down.

Derry / Re: Derry Club Football & Hurling

The Irish News have the story about Dougan and Flanagan travelling and not playing league football.

Mal put up the Glen team from their first championship game against Dungiven on 9th August. Think that 11 who started that game, featured against St. Brigids (9 starters and 2 off the bench). Also starting that first game were Danny McDermott and Jack Doherty who would surely have been in the first 15 for the AI, had they been fit.

Thats 4 different Derry clubs now with All-Ireland Senior Club Football titles. Same amount as Dublin and one less than Kerry, though their totals include sides that are no longer allowed to enter the competition (UCD and East Kerry respectively).

The keeper was badly out of position, but they should've killed the game when the fella went down with cramp. Could've got a least another 30secs out of that and calmed things down. Instead a quick free is lost, and a defender is still lying on his back getting treatment and Glen get the goal.

On Glen's first half misses they must've hit 4/5 identical wides, with the ball trailing off to the left hand side of the post.

Quote from: imtommygunn on January 16, 2024, 09:18:11 AMThey beat Tipp by a point in the final according to wiki. I don't think any of those U21 teams won the AI.I thought they won 3 or 4 in a row.

They won 4 in a row, but only made it to the AI final once.

Quote from: ONeill on January 12, 2024, 07:23:54 AMSeems like Tyrone school football is on the up again these last 2/3 years. The stats will probably contradict this but it felt there was a bit of a lull for a right few years in the county in terms of winning silverware in the MacRory.

Quote from: clarshack on January 10, 2024, 12:20:00 PM£31.67 p/m for a family membership at the local leisure centre is the best money you will ever spend. why would you pay a PT?

We have the same - choice of 3 leisure centres and includes the gym, pool, classes, health suite, soft play for the children. Its great value.
Yeah, same in mid-ulster:
£380 for the annual family membership

GAA Discussion / Re: McKenna Cup 2024

Throw back to when Tyrone were at it in the McKenna Cup  ;)

2007 Tyrone ineligibility dispute
Tyrone caused controversy in 2007 when they fielded four players who had already been selected by University teams. The official rule is that Universities have first choice on players, so in effect, they were fielding ineligible players. Tyrone manager, Mickey Harte, claimed it was the players' own decision to choose to play for the county team over their University. Tyrone were docked two points as a punishment, but this did not affect their progression into the semi-final stage.

Although Tyrone won the final, beating Donegal by 2-09 to 0-05, Tyrone were stripped of their title for fielding the ineligible University players in the match. The players had not been listed on the official team sheet, which was another breach of the rules. However, Tyrone's victory was reinstated upon appeal.
