Thought omaghs resolve was very impressive today. Ronan o neills goal coming so soon after Richie Donnelly scored his was the sign of a mature team. Trillick had opportunities but the last 15 mins from omagh was very controlled

+1 cannot disagree any with that...Brian McCallion out of his depth....

Suppose all men selling club gear hand all the coin back to the club as well especially their own club

I might be wrong do most clubs not sell their own club gear?

Agreed. A strong gaa club/ community  is the greatest asset a parish or village will have. But it costs lots to keep it going and in many ways that is a cost to the community through fundraising. If you are a benefactor then you can't charge your community.

You can't, but your happy to pay the stranger? It has to be an Irish begrudgery thing more than anything else. The Gaa is built on parochialism and that means inward self help, that model also promotes begrudgery. If logic was applied and emotion taken out of it, the argument is a dead duck

Do you really think that it would be fair for a club to pay its own club man to manage a senior team? Does that mean the whole management set up of the seniors? What about youth management? Youth Officers, the man who marks the pitch, the girl who washes the jerseys, the lotto sellers, the ticket sellers or the lads who carry out the maintenance work around the grounds?  Should they all be paid?
Is the senior manager the most important person in the club in your opinion?
I don't!
I don't mind a few expenses for the outside man as he has mileage and using his phone to contact teams and his players but to supplement a man as much as a weekly wage is just wrong.
Where has the amateur ethos gone?

I am not trying to be smart or ignorant when I say this, but the where have you been living the past ten years, very few senior clubs don't pay. This argument about lotto seller etc is completely irrelevant as currently all the things you outlined are continuing even with paid managers. My question is still why a club is happy to pay the stranger but not the neighbour, friend or club member. as I said before, not wanting to do it is completely about begrudgery, as the when paying the outside man the principle of being amateur has been conceded, and that was done along time ago, therefore the only conclusion is begrudery.

Don't start me about the 'expenses' paid to county boards or the Ulster council which has over 40 paid employees and then come back with the argument about not paying a manager. This nut was cracked along time ago.

Surely the likes of Mickey Harte and Peter Canavan have handed back all the coin to their club/county they have racked in over the years..

I have never been able to understand why a Gael is very happy to pay a manager who is a complete stranger to their club, but appalled at having to pay a friend, neighbour, club colleague to manage their club. They both have the same responsibilities.

I will ask this question again

Great question....madness when we stop to think about it....

. Every club in the top 7 in Tyrone have all underachieved!!!!!

Couldn't agree more.

Trillick??
But not all paying a man top dollar.
That's the real point.

7/8 teams paying dollar surely....

I was going to list the teams "I" believe/have heard are paying their management but it would take all day. Much easier to list who isnt

Fire Away ............

I know of one club who are paying their own club man. Its to be expected that outside managers are getting compensated.

In this county??

I have not been on the committee for a good few years now..... This is my honest assessment....

In 2006 with a lot of new faces on our team we got relegated from 1a to 1b winning only 4 matches we as a club decided to go outside for a manager for the first time in 5/6 years as the last outside manager did not work for us  and moved on mid season.... we got john morrison in 2007...in which we had a season in which was not plain sailing as John Morrison set out to sort out some issues that our club thought needed sorted noses where put out of joint along the way, we beat Carrickmore in the first round of the championship and then lost to Donaghmore, Morrision continued to sort out a mess for the reminder of 2007 season and we got promoted to senior div 1 for 2008 as their was no 1a or 1b.... Damian Cassidy then was brought in and he suited what we needed at this time we won championship 2008 he then left for Derry we got knocked out first round the next years by Trillick and then Coalisland....2011 he came back we got beaten by Dromore by 1 point in the county final.....We lost v Omagh 2012 by 1 point after a replay...We won Championship 2013...2014 we got beat by dromore after being 7/8 in front....THIS IS IN MY OPINION CASSIDY SHOULD HAVE BEEN AWAY....Our club decided to keep faith defeats by Coalisland 2015/16 and pomeroy in 2017 sums up our championship in his time with us.....

In our 100 year history we have produced only 2 set of teams that could sustain long period of competitive runs of competing for Senior Championships...1958-1965 and 2007- to today..... all the rest where between first round exits every year  and periods of Intermediate football.... So we may have underachieved who knows...what i do know is in the last 10/12 years Tyrone football has been at its most competitive and most open ever championship at Senior level in this County,so winning 2 senior championships is not too bad...we have had good times in our club with under 21 wins and reserve wins..last minute goals replays and some serious good days also some bad ones....in the 1970's and 80's i could never have honestly thought i would never have seen those heights again that we have had in the last 10 years....Damian Cassidy and others have been part of this wether some of you like it or not.... i have had nephews and cousins dropped of the team in this period but i am trying to be fair...lots of people make judgement at time for reasons which are maybe close to their heart in every club i met Ardboe Coalisland Derrytresk men all this week blaming management...Ardboe and Coalisland are both behind us in the Roll of Honour in the "Cassidy era" and am sure they both will continue to try and cure that in the next few years...... I support the Rahillys not who is managing them.... Every club in the top 7 in Tyrone have all underachieved!!!!!

Looking forward to hearing STG's thoughts on the game last night?

It doesn't get much more insightful than his opinion that McKernan can handle Mark Bradley based on last years championship in which Bradley scored 14 points over two games v Coalisland, 8 or 9 of them from play.
mc kernan held Bradley to 2 from play in drawn game and like I said he was the only one who came close to marking him last year. Didn't Bradley destroy the county men mc Crory and mc Carron last year? Is mc kernan not worthy of a county call up?

I didn't say he didn't deserve a call up but I wouldn't be basing it on how he handled Mark Bradley who scored 8 or 9 from play in the 2 championship games last year.

Was McKernan not involved at some stage early last year....

Damian Cassidy has surly underachieved with Clonoe given the talent at his disposal and the wage he lifts.

2 senior championships 2 senior leagues 1 under 21 and ulster under 21 in 8 seasons plus several reserve champions..... so maybe or maybe not who knows.....

Did he manage all those teams u21 and reserve too

Under 21's yes and at least one of the reserve wins

Stewartstown don't have a Kieran McGeary or a Frank Burns tho

No not many have in all fairness.... How do we see Pomeroy fair v Errigal?
Clonoe would have been going in as favourites against Errigal so I see no reason to rule out an 8th different winner in 8 years.

Never would have believed it but i would love to see it happening...and why not...
