i was about to write out a reply, but radiogaagaa seems to have covered most of what i wanted to say.
shawshank, dont presume you know who has and hasnt played the game just because they dont agree with your views.

fair enough

As for radiogaa

the rules that were introduced and the changes that evolved over the yeara were to give more protection to players and resuce persistant fouling, or at least for the persistant foulers to get eventually sent off, in other words to reduce the amount of illegal physical hits that occured. Now if you don't understand that point, there is little point in continuing in this debate.

But I tell you what, saying that your good at running your mouth off, you produce the evidence to say that the rule changes that occurred over the years were not designed to do that

This is not a rant against Referees. Far from it. There have been many inconsistent performances this year. I know that Linesmen are now helping out but surely it is time to give them a little more power. I also compare the amount of cards given in football to a general lack in hurling where the refs only really card serious fouls. A complete overhaul of the system is required to give referees every assistance, wether it is a tmo, sinbin or whatever. The two matches I watched yesterday left defeated teams with the feeling that they had been robbed which may not have been the case. But compare the soft reds given to O'Gara and Hughes compared to the yellow for McLoone which left McMahon with concussion. I know these things even themselves out and as an Armagh man we have our own bitter experiences of poor decision making. But in this day and age we need to get respect for our Ref's and surely a TMO is the way to go.

agree with this.
the way yellow cards and frees are handed out at the minute is ruining the game IMO.
I know things were changed to stop persistant fouling, but it has only served to take all physical contact out of the game and leave it a very stop start spectacle.not to mention actually encouraging diving and going down looking for the soft free and a booking for the defender.

Ok ,whats your suggestion to stop backs from persistantly fouling forwards or to prevent teams from persistantly fouling and getting away with it?
the reason the rules were altered was to make the game a better spectacle.
that hasnt worked.
in my opinion, all the frees and cards make it alot worse.
as somone else said. cards should only be given out fordangerous challenges as in hurling.

the rules were altered to reduce the amount of illegal physical hits that occurred, brutality at times under the cover of a football shirt., the game had to be cleaned up. Sounds like you haven't played the game. Our game was brutal at a time when defenders could pull , haul, and hit offf the ball at will without recourse. Any forward worth their salt would not have had the impact they should have due to off the ball stuff. That IMO has been masively improved as a result of ticks and yellow cards being given out . Before all the ref had was a warning and then a sending off, now the fouler and the public know who has been publically warned with the showing of the yellow.

I have an idea - what about a free?

What's your suggestion to stop forwards from persistently diving, holding the defender to simulate a foul on themselves and getting away with it? What's your suggestion to stop the complete ruination of the game by penalising even accidental physical contact?

simple, shown him a yellow card for cheating, the way to reduce this behaviour is to educate the refs about this as most of them never played the game at any level and the most I see were poor footballers themslves and never learned the dark arts. Teach the refs these things and shown yellows or reds if needed, also the linesmen should be invloved more around these issues. Its tatics such as playing 13 men behind the ball that is ruining the game not yellow cards and tics etc.

Brennan is the only person who knows that, would you care to ask him?

Don't agree with those odds at all.

We have lost our best defender and best forward to injury (Gerard O'Kane and Paddy B) and our best midfielder (Fergal Doherty) can't commit this year.

Throw in our semi-final record against Armaghs, the strength of our quarter final victory against Armaghs, and those odds are miserly for a Derry punt.

The one hope clung to is this mystical 'Brennan Factor'. I will be very surprised if we turn Armagh over (not shocked though)

2/1 for Derry would be more like it.

Again to get the record straight. Brennan has never once spoken directly either by phone or in a one-one to Fergal Doherty about being invovled with the county team this year and that my friend is a fact.

Ulster - Derry (Donegal)
Leinster - Dublin (Wexford)
Munster - Kerry (Cork)
Connaught - Galway (Sligo)

AI - Dublin (Cork)

ziggy how in Gods earht can you select derry for Ulster, based on what? They have about 9 players at best that are county material, a county that hasn't won a semi final in 10 years and the most of them still playing from teams over the past 5/6 years. Surprised at you.

Minor game will probably turn out to by the Ulster Final.   By all accounts these are the 2 best minor sides in Ulster this year.  Probably have to fancy Down with Colman's lads on board.  Opinions?

Don't want to bust yer balls, but I expect Derry to win the Ulster minor championship, we have IMO a serious gorup of footballers this year and next.

Just decided to edit some clips of the recent media activities surrounding Michaela's passing. Over all, I felt the media handled the situation quite well especially UTV. This is  basically is a combination of music and some clips before during and after that awful event. In addition there is also a poem from one of the very established members of the board. Obviously because it is a very sensitive subject I left out some of the stronger language the media use to descibe such horrid events.

a credit to you, sensitively done and very touching.

Really am shocked by this news and the nature of her death, has only made the reality of the situation alot worst. I can't get the thoughts of this out of my head since I heard about it late yesterday afternoon, to the extent I was waking up last night in bed thinking about it. Now that is just me, a nobody with no connection to the family, so I ask myself how extreme are the turmoils each of the family members associated with this tragedy must feel, and I can't even start to understand the place they are now in. My heart goes out to each and every one of them, especially Mickey and his immediate family, and her husband John. What a tragedy

Why would he want to talk to the press the way they have been treating him!

You're clueless. The British press have given him such an easy ride it beggars belief. His mates in the media got him the job in the first place. When we conceded goals under Rafa the gimps from Sky couldn't wait to have a go at the zonal marking we employed. Have you seen them have a go at the defensive system Roy is using(whatever that is)?? No you haven't because Roy is a nice guy. He deserves to be given time because he's got 35 years experience in the game don't you know. FFS this clown needs to go this weekend.

This is the quote geoff did the edit on, where he said he hated Roy, explaining why he needs help, he cleaned it up after I helped him to get some perspective  :-*
