Quote from: From the Bunker on December 04, 2023, 10:10:00 PMHaunted was done originally by The Pogues with Cait O'Riordan doing co-vocals for the Sid And Nancy original soundtrack.

I always thought the re-recording was pointless, as it virtually mimicked the original, and I much rather Cait's vocals.

Haunted is a great  song , but I just  can't tolerate Sinead O' Connor's voice on it

I do like  Cait O'Riordan singing on 'I'm a man you don't meet everyday' though.

Other way round for me.
Lisa O'Neil did a great job on Fairytale of New York today

I'd happily take an opportunity to give a dig at Galway teams, but I wouldn't say a word against Gary Sice today. To be still playing at his age and after all he's been through deserves nothing but respect.
Brigids were very good, O'Carroll is a top forward, Stack was outstanding, they look very hungry, hopefully they go another couple of steps.

Jaysis Marty Morrissey isn't great at hiding his bias. No reaction when O'Loughlin Gaels score, but each Crokes score treated like a thing of beauty.

Quote from: trailer on November 19, 2023, 06:15:00 PMMary Lou sending condolences to Ben Dunne's family is the sort of shithousery you'd get on this board. Absolute top level effort from Mary Lou.

I cannot wait for a SF government in the south. The nonsense will be off the charts.

I think Ben moved on, maybe you should too...

He also appeared on newstalk in Dec 2010 supporting Sinn Fein going into government

Yes, forget all the awkward stuff like kidnappings and murders.  It's much easier to shout about housing and health from opposition benches.
They'll probably get their chance soon enough - fine gael will be 13 years in power which is enough, but when in power, SF are either going to have to disappoint a lot of their core vote or alienate the rest of the electorate.

Karol Mannion winning goal for St. Brigid's v Corofin came to mind

Two side meet again in this year's final

Jeez, I had forgotten about that goal!
Now I remember watching it at home and letting such a roar out of me - didn't particularly mind who won, but such a way to win it!

Quote from: weareros on November 03, 2023, 11:07:22 PMThe Irish political parties criticism needs to be directed at EU, Uk and US. But particularly the EU and US. I can no longer defend being in a EU union with political psychopaths. We need to threaten to leave. Not Brexit style. But for moral reasons. And SF, FG and FF need to boycott Biden, Schumer, Clinton and the democrats on March 17th. They are a totally different breed to us and we need to remove their ability to hyjack Irishness on our national holiday. We don't have much power but we have that.

Boycotting the US parties would have fck all effect on them, but would have a major effect on investment and attitude to Ireland.
Fair enough if you're willing to accept making that sacrifice, but don't think it will register with the Americans or anyone else.

Quote from: Dag Dog on October 20, 2023, 08:47:03 PMI see Paddy Cosgrave is torching his Web Summit business with unwise tweeting.
He annoyed the Israeli tech community and it has spiralled.
He has always tweeted edgy stuff about the Irish scene and gotten away with it, like making up some yarn that 4 nurses had died at the start of Covid.

https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/meta-google-and-stripe-to-boycott-web-summit-on-back-of-paddy-cosgraves-israel-comments/a1235054615.html

Not sure he did a whole lot (if anything) wrong in this case, but as you say he's been lucky to get away with previous stuff. Of the hundreds of random people I have met as part of my business dealings over the last couple of decades, he stands out as the most obnoxious. A complete a-hole, who is prepared to tell outright lies to make a point.

He's the right man getting his comeuppance for the wrong reason.

Exactly this!
He's a vindictive, arrogant p***k who deserves to taken down more than a few pegs.
But of all the things he has said, this was on the mildest end.

He'll have to stand down from politics. If he doesn't I'm sure the people in his constituency will be asking big questions!

John O'Mahoney was able to do it and there's hardly the same level of pressure in Laois as there was in Mayo

Which culminated in championship defeats to Sligo and Longford in 2010.

I have no idea if this video is of Gaza or is from today, but if its accurate, then looks like a rocket fired from Palestine that failed

Quote from: Sportacus on October 08, 2023, 08:57:27 PMIt is possible to fully support the plight of the Palestine people, and condemn the atrocities on all sides.  That's an opinion.

Standing with a machine gun abducting old women and young children by any measure is not heroic, it just isn't.  That's a fact.

There is absolutely a difference between oppressor and the oppressed.  The Palestinians have been brutalised and driven to desperation.  The Israeli have chosen to brutalise. But f**king wise up suggesting it's heroic to abduct or murder unarmed civilians. Palestinians have been heroic in so many ways, but not that one.

It's also possible to call the Palestinian resistence heroic and understand the horrible realities of conflict/war and understand who bares the responsibility for it.

There should be no requirement for Palestinians to rise up against their oppressor, no requirement for them to take from the Israeli play book of abducting or murdering civilians but Israeli has created this reality.

and if you feel the need to question someone, try ursela von der leyen on twitter who repeats the genocidal call of 'Israel has the right to defend itself' and 'stands with Israel'.  i repeat the Palestinian resistence is heroic and I stand with Palestine. Dammi falastini 🇵🇸

There was nothing heroic about murdering over 250 young people at a music festival, or raping and murdering a young woman and parading her body on the back of a pickup truck.
Barbaric is the nearest word I can think of.

Quote from: Tubberman on September 22, 2023, 11:12:00 PMHolohan is very matter-of-fact, but I thought that was a very good interview.
Tubridy would have been too giddy and would have interrupted far too often - Kielty let him talk and I thought it was great viewing.

A very soft interview, I understand it being that way with the questions about his deceased wife. But, no push to ask Holohan on the disgraceful Cervical Check fiasco and cover-up, Covid restrictions, His quango job in Trinity that went tits up when it went public that it transpired he actually was going to do nothing.

A very wealthy man, with a huge pension - now writing a vanity book about himself.

What way does this work?

As LLS usually has quite a few on who have just released a book, does the writer/book company pay for an interview or does RTÉ pay the guest for the 20 min interview?

I think it's more that the only time many 'celebs' have any reason to do interviews is when they have something to plug - either a film or book or TV series

Nervy enough start.

McAleese and McClean on a different level to the rest of the guests.

The northern guests better than the southern guests is essentially what you're saying

Irish Athletics seems to be having a bit of a moment. Is it just me or is there an unprecedented amount of Irish athletes in the top flight at the minute?

We still have a habit of coming 4th though.

In finals though - very rare we were getting to finals in the past 20 years

Aye by the Ukrainians.  Haven't a clue whose doing what out there

Why would the Ukrainians target him when it was obviously only a matter of time before Putin did it for them.
Also if they had the capability to reach this far into Russia, accurately enough to take out a private jet, I'd imagine he wouldn't have been top of their target list.
Media with links to the Wagner group are reporting that it was Russian military that shot the jet down (according to the BBC), which seems far more likely

Of course, the conspiracy theory is that he wasn't on board at all and that this was just a mechanism to "disappear".

From the BBC.

Grey Zone reports that a second business jet owned by Prigozhin landed safely in the Moscow region.

Apparently, he always has 2 of his planes flying to make it harder to identify which he was on.
