GAA Discussion / Re: New rules on naming teams
May 14, 2015, 10:53:25 PM
Delighted to see this and hopefully rules will be implemented, no other sport has the childish attitude to dummy teams and a host of late changes to published teams.

On a related note, at the recent league finals, Armagh must have had 15-20 subs togged out yet I presume only numbers 16-26 could have been involved, therefore why bother going through the charade of togging out when you cant play?

Despite sealing promotion with a game to spare, ye seem very disheartened lads! This year league is just if not more important than championship as this promotion is a sign of progression and chance to play better sides next year. Whoever wins between ourselves and Offaly in May is then in for a serious hiding more than likely unfortunately, therefore promotion and a league final victory are tangible signs of progress.

Performances seem to have been patchy throughout league, probably best summed u by the Waterford game, which was typical Longford -very good in patches and headless in probably more patches!

Like a lot of counties, Longford are in no man land, not good enough for  a Leinster challenge but better  or as good as probably 10 other side, so until such time as a proper secondary competition is introduced, thats treated seriously then we're going to continue treading water and yo-yoing between divisions 3 and 4.

One point defeat in Longford could well kill our promotion push. Can see several teams finishing level is it scoring difference or head to head then? Offaly and Longford's to lose

Longford did their level best to throw away an 11 point lead with a shambolic 2nd half display against Waterford at weekend so wouldn't be booking the open top bus just yet! Tough game away in "fortress" Aughrim this weekend will tell a lot

Yeah, I know Dublin are a high standard for any team but I'd be a bit concerned if I was an Armagh man that any team clipping over a nice score might be hard to keep with. Armagh won't gear anyone bar the very best and they'll be dangerous opponents but they might find the Croke Park an unforgiving place. Still you're in the mix now so I can understand Armagh lads rightly taking the positive out it.

To be honest I'm just very happy to still be in the championship. After a horrible league this is more then most expected. We are a team to be respected again and have progressed further then we have for the last 6 years.  We have a disciplined team with a clear strategy, if a team can best us fair play to them but regardless I am proud of the team.

Hopefully we will meet again in the league in 2016 in Division 2.

Armagh are a physical and solid team. Midfield is a bit weak though. Like us their ceiling this year is probably an AIQF. No shame in that, just means more work will need to be done over the next year to make the next step.

Looks like Roscommon ceiling was actually the 3rd round of qualifiers!!

Just as good as breaking ball used to be, piece on Emlyn Mulligan was interesting and has obvious passion for the Leitrim jersey  but rashers for breakfast before a championship match  ;)

GAA Discussion / The Trip to Tipp
July 02, 2014, 10:24:24 PM
Very few Tipp followers on here usually so how do my fellow Larries feel ahead of the trip to Tipp on Saturday? Could have got a kinder draw as Tipp should probably have beaten Cork but somehow got pipped at the post. Our confidence should be sky high but  surely Tipp will have a point to prove and be hoping to bounce back so tight game would seem to be in store. At least we should have a few more subs available this weekend although going by the junior final I don't think theres much on offer!

Hard to ever be too confident as a Longford supporter but plenty of reasons to be optimistic and looking forward to chance to visit Semple!

Handy little e-book here with all stats up to last year, shows Longford played Kilkenny 3 times in Championship, last time was 1976  when they won 3-21 to 0.5...a little bit before my time!!

Tipp a point up with less than 10 mins left against Cork in Muster SFC, shock on the cards hopefully!

Longford were 9/1 beforehand with Derry at 1/20 so shows what the bookies know  ;D

Kicking myself for not travelling but superb win, fair play to all concerned. Couldn't see us causing an upset based on the previous 2 outings but suppose thats the beauty of sport, you just never know! Saw Derry in league final and their confidence most have taken an awful hammering both from that and from Donegal beating them at home.

Looking forward to your views Shamrock! Fiar play to you for heading up, was there much of  Longford crowd?

Who can play the poor mouth the best!? Looks like Derry folk arent too optimistic but having seen Longford in both their championship outings I don't think there's much to fear unfortunately. We don't have confidence or momentum of 2012 and just hope we put up a decent fight on Saturday in what could be a last hurrah for a few extremely loyal servants

A lot of the team are late 20s/early 30s and been around the block a number of times at this stage without making the "breakthrough" to a semi final appearance, wonder if they'll have appetite for the dog fight that is Division 4....need to give a good number from the U-21 teams from the last few years a run and give them a few years to rebuild.

Qualifier draw woest possible and heard a few lads have already left panel so doenst bode well Im afraid  :(

Couldn't summarise it any better than that Shamrock, sloppy performance all over the field and there seemed to be a lack of ideas at times as to what the plan was..our centre half back sallying up the pitch without a clue what to do and in the end either gave it away cheaply or almost hit the corner flag!

Better team won so cant have any complaints and not half as disappointing as the defeat to Wexford 2 years ago. Very little appetite for the qualifiers, probably draw Offaly again!

This game not really capturing the imagination of the public on here or in general, prob see 90 seconds of highlights on Sunday Game whether game is good, bad or indifferent!

Good to see Gilleran back as was missed the last day and not many options form the bench. Enjoy the games tomorrow Shamrock and hopefully we'll be celebrating 2 victories this time tomorrow!
