Offaly in 1960 and 1961.

Down were reputed to be the greatest team of all time to that point and proved it by handing heavy defeats to Kerry in those years.  Down had the innovative roving forwards, overlapping half-backs and they 'broke' the ball at midfield.

Offaly held those Down forwards to 1-10 (1960 semi-final drawn game), 1-7 (1960 replay) and 3-6 (1961 Final, when losing by a single point).

On that basis you can declare the poll closed and hand it over to the Cavan team of the 60's, honours even in Ulster from 58 to 69 4 each with Down, Down win three All Irelands we don't win as much as a feckin semi final. Case closed really. Rossies were a right outfit culminating in the 1980 final all right.

Hurling Discussion / Re: DJ going to Waterford ?

Not sure DJ is what Waterford need, not if they want to progress at any rate. Waterford might suit DJ rightly though.

One conclusion I have come to from today is that while you might have some chance of analysing relatively pedestrian sports like soccer/rugby/chess while watching it on the box there is too much going on in a game like today's to come to any conclusions without being there. Watching it on the TV over the first 25 minutes it looked like Mayo were going to leather them off the park. Clearly something was going on off camera where Mayo were absolutely flaking themselves into the ground to maintain their level. First goal for the Dubs was a major development. Will Horan be able to motivate these lads to go at it again, bi call....

Was talking yesterday to a native Ballagh woman who lives in another part of Co Ros nowadays.
When I said "I suppose you'll be up for Mayo" she exploded.
"Growing up in Ballagh I got to hate them fcukers and always support whoever they are playing against - even fcukin Dublin or Kerry"
Just repeatin' what she was sayin  :-X

I've met 6 county Loyalists in Britain with similar tirades against the Irish.

Say you felt pretty comfortable in that sort of company

Christy also wrote a song eulogising Shane Mc Gowan. Last person on earth that should be giving out about alcohol promotion.

Let's face it, Arthur's Day or not, Guinness will still be creaming off profits (pun intended) on a daily basis, and what (further) harm does it do, if  you get a bit of craic for a day, along with some high quality free entertainment?

What song was that?

Think he might be confusing it with Christy's long winded intro to Fairytale of New York on the Live at the Point album.

Christ I need a drink fast, I find myself agreeing with Tony on something, sort of.

think it was Guinness used to sponsor the tours of Christy and assorted others to Australia around St pats day in the late 80's early 90's but that, as they say, was then

Arthurs day is one unmerciful w**k mind you

Just by way of cooling things down boys and girls the following story was told to me by a (male) Jewish colleague of mine. Genie appears to Jew and offers him to make his wish come true, Jew explains about this place called the middle east where the Arabs have all the Oil and the jews have all the sand can he change the order around so to speak. That is totally impossible even to me said the Genie given the number of people involved.. Something a bit more reasonable please. Jew thinks for a while and says he's been married 20 years and never had a blow job of his missus. Is she Jewish asked the Genie? Sure is says yer man. Ah for jasus sake man says the Genie lets get back to discussing something achievable like your first wish again.

Now let the hostilities recommence.

All about results I suppose, we tolerated some unmerciful shite during the Jack Charlton era because we managed to knock out a few good results, and Jack wasn't exactly one to trust his more skilful players either witness Brady and O'Leary. Jack didn't have an interpreter at his disposal either come to think of it.

Ivan Yates can go and fcuk off back to Wales. He got shag all sympathy from the listening public when he poured out his woes on the radio.

Anyway I am not sure who he is aiming that 'Grab All' jibe all. Most Jayzesing, Daily Star buying, John Player Blue smokin, Dubbellin taxi drivers would be listening to FM104 or Spin106 or, if they were a wee bit more sensitive, listen to Q102 or 98FM.

Cnuts the lot of them and bad cess to their hatred for all things GAA >:(

You can get the odd soccer and rugby  type more than willing to peddle the grab all association line as well, or is it just some of the soccer and rugger bugger types of my acquaintance?

Bouncing Points.

These should not be allowed to count!

I agree and this rule should be implemented retrospectively.

This rule should be back dated to August 1996!

Have a feeling Muppet had that exact level of retrospection in mind

Returned bankrupt broadcaster Ivan Yates was having a bit of the Grab All Association line this morning in an attempt to grab more ratings I suppose, not sure what the extent of Ivan's hands on involvement with the GAA might be ;) apart from accepting the odd corporate ticket gig I suppose
