Yeah 'twas the use of the hip done the business on petie Harte as well
Ah look here, are ye seriously still going on about this? Have you ever played football?? No way in hell is a ref going to give a free for that. It was shoulder to shoulder, fair and square.
Harte came off worse because he didn't enter the tackle with the intensity that Cunnife did. What do you expect, Cunnife to allow Harte stroll in on goal? He did his job and fair f&$@s to him for doing so. If he pulled out of that challenge he would be hauled off straight away. Cunnife set the tone for the rest of the game, Mayo weren't going to lie down and were going to battle for every dingle ball. His team-mates would have been inspired by that challenge.
You know as well as I do the difference between that and what Penrose did against Monaghan. If ya cant take good clean football then you're following the wrong sport.

I don't know.  when I was growing up, a fair shoulder was used when two players were running in the direction of the ball side by side-that was the training drill.  The shoulder 'hit' where somebody gets nailed because they are shouldered from an opposite angle with the ball or reaching for the ball has crept into football and hurling this past ten years (as players have become physically stronger)  and is seen as something acceptable where it should be viewed as something dangerous.  I think that they have clamped down somewhat on this tackle in hurling this year.

What's your feelings on Aiden O'Shea's tr**p-actin' -grasping at Col Cav's throat, dropping the knee and then clutching his face after big Packie gave him a dunder?  is that good clean football?  CCCCCCCCCC?

My feelings on that were Colm Cavanagh went down very easy, as soon as he felt any sort of contact on the way up he leapt backwards. It was very similar to when McFadden tried to con the ref into getting O'Shea booked in the 1/4 final. Yes there was contact and yes it was a free. What O'Shea did after he got tackled by the keeper was inexcusable and when he watches it again on TV he will naturally feel emabarrassed. There's no place for that in the game.

By the way what are your feelings on what Penrose did to Dessie Moane?

I heard other things too but I don't want to repeat them here. Just to say it involves magnets that they attach to the game ball and stuff.

I heard they were colluding with Donegal on how to beat Tyrone as well.

If Mayo lose this, will they be stepping down as a county?
Sure didn't we step on Down already last year in the quarters. Ye're turn thos year :)

Not one team has put it up to Mayo in this years championship, will be interesting to see how they respond when the tough questions are asked by Tyrone.

That's the very thing. What if Tyrone start with the intensity Mayo showed against Donegal??
It will be a serious test of character. I'm not sure what the match ups were in the league game but we know now that a lot can be read into the way Mayo matched up against Donegal in the league match, I.e. the way Barrett was brought in to the full back line.

This will be a very tight game and I have a feeling it will be low scoring one and we could well see a replay. Has there been a replay yet in the Football this summer? A rare hing if there hasn't been one yet.

Are you in Sydney all the time Stephenite? I'll probably head into Scruffy's to watch it.

Such feckin thread hijacking! I never saw the likes of it.

Is nobody going to mention Dublin at all?  ;)

No-one likes Enda Kenny. Only Mayo people.
Are ya sure about that?

Allot of talking up of Mayo on this thread. Reminds me of 2004. Talk was of our strong panel, our stronger mental strength and this not being like other Mayo sides of the past. Mistakes were learned from the past we were told. We went into the final against Kerry with real aspirations. I can still remember quotes from the players, they really believed they were up to the fight and so did we the supporters. Nobody expected the trouncing we got that year in the final. We'll have to reserve partial judgement on the present crew after the quarter finals.
Very true. We have not being tested yet in the slightest and I doubt we will be by London either. Luckily Horan will have the lads level headed going into the this match. The reality is we won't know where we are at this year until we reach the quarters and we could well come up against a Cork or a Meath or a Tyrone. A serious step up compared to the challenges we've received to date.
We have a better panel than we ever have had. Saying that though, an injury to a Cafferkey or a Higgins or an A O'Sé and we'd be hard pressed finding replacements for those lads. First thing is first and we have to concentrate on getting past London. Nobody should be losing the run of themselves and those who are have short memories. I am just glad that we have the management in place who know exactly how to deal with the hype that some deluded fans might have. We are a decent side who are in a Connacht final and that's all we are at the moment.

GAA Discussion / Re: Galway v Armagh

Well done to Galway. They have done well to pick the heads up after the loss to Mayo.
Would Bradshaw come back at this stage of the championship or would the rest of the panel want him back? I reckon they'll give Cork a belly full next week and they should go into it full of confidence.

It's like a hybrid of Rugby league, football and Aussie rules. You just have the see the change of the physique in the majority of players in the last few years.
More like a hybrid of handball. If Down actually kicked the ball in early to forwards instead of handing it off to each other all the way up only to throw it into a Donegal backs hand. Dia dha reiteach anocht, the amount of times the early ball was on!
Fair play to McFadden, the only man with a pair of balls on the field, some great points from way out. People who question Donegal's hunger this year are in for a bit of a shock.

Also, the third man tackle/foul. My own county are no angels at this but the amount of times it was going on in this watch was disgusting. There was one occasion where a Down defender ran almost 10 yards in the wrong direction to take Kavanagh out of it after he laid it off to McFadden. If he had actually turned and tried to tackle McFadden he might have prevented a Donegal point.
Stamp out the 3rd man tackle for christ sake.

The talking and discussion is nearly over and time for a realistic look at this match.

I can't see us conceding a goal against Ros and we are likely to score 3. Senan Kilbride willl be man marked in a similar fashion to Meehan. He is no good when this tactic is deployed against him so expect to see his usual head dropping at county level.

Realistically we will score between 12 and 18 points. So our full time score should be around 2 - 14.

Ros aren't capable of scoring more than 14 points against any side. Against an in form Mayo I would say they will be lucky to get to the 10 mark.

Any realistic hope of a close game for Ros fans are purely hopeful fantasy.

Mayo to win and win pulling up. 2-14 to 9 points.
You're usually a decent poster but that there is pure fuel for any Roscommon man. Respect should be shown as we all know damn well these Rossies are capable of an upset. We've seen it before.

Mayo play Cavan in a challenge match on Monday in Ballina. Will be interesting to see who'll wear 11.
Are Roscommon out this weekend, does anyone know?

Well that's the Dubs going for the jugular and if that's an indication of Gavin's thought process he is hanging his hat on the all out attack option. I hope it works out for him this year, it will be great for football if a team who back themselves to outshoot opponents wins Sam.

It would be great alright.

But if they ever meet Donegal that could change.
Who beat them last year?
