great win for r/e and after all the losses in leinster this will give them great confidence going forward although st Mullins will provide a stern test but they should come through it.

The circumstances are irrelevant. No U20 player should have played in the Divisional full stop. It wasn't necessary. As I write that, I'm aware that there's no Under 20 manager and the Minor manager has already been ridiculed. So maybe the players just wanted to attach themselves to something that looked half decent. I don't think they belonged there personally, and particularly not at the expense of their club side. As for the competition itself, there's nothing wrong with it. It was obviously popular with players and I'm sure Quirke was happy to see what's out there
Eddie kinsella according to laois today is new u20 manager

Don't disagree at all with limiting to players over 20. Was just reacting to the comment that the divisional set up overall was a farce and no advantage to anyone except charity. Although some clubs will always be against divisional teams (normally stronger clubs), they are typically better for a county overall.

Good article and debate here in the Examiner:

i would not be against a divisional team in a proper championship but what is a player going to prove in a meaningless divisional game at the end of a long season that he has not already done to be noticed for his club in a championship? if a player is good enough to be selected on a laois senior panel he will stand out in championship games where it really counts.

Ratheniska hammered sarsfields yesterday, apparently jack priestley and Sean O'Neill didnt play with sarsfields. They opted to play with the divisional side instead. U20 players shouldn't be selected for the divisional games while the u20 championship is on.
If this is true it is nothing short of a farce
from the start i said this divisional set up was a farce and of no advantage to anyone only the few pound it raises for charity

game did not live up to expectations but there was some tough hitting out there and ground conditions were soft enough but best team won out.

great win for rosenallis but again it was a very disappointing performance from the harps, relying to much on lannigan. centre back for rosenallis was good, although harps did come back at them rosenallis did not panic on the field or the line so maybe they learned something from the football against clonaslee where they nearly threw it away, going to be very tough on them now going through leinster in both codes

The harps favourites again and this has proved their stumbling block in the past as alot of pundits see them as a senior club. Reminds me alot of timahoe in football. So with that added pressure rosenallis have a chance and on a high.

Weather is to be good, two very good teams, hopefully large crowd with better atmosphere than last week, setting up for a great final.

No Attride or Done in Divisional teams . Otherwise as expected . Thought Gary Walsh would have gave it another go this year but perhaps he's off travelling again .
Some strange names in there tbh. Obviously some selectors pushing lads from their own club. Maybe no harm to see these lads. Could be a hidden gem out there somewhere.
Agree. This divisional set up not worth it. U-20 running also and you have 3 clubs in leinster. Where is the point or what is a player going to prove here that he has not already in the championship. Some of the players on the list would not make a junior team let alone a county team and it is the number of mentors which is another joke pushing their own players

apart for the few that make money as in the three pubs in the town there is not a flag to be seen, senior county final - no houses with flags out, gaa pitch in rathleague nothing to say they are in a county final - should be adorned with green and white to encourage younger generation - portlaoise comittee should go to killeshin and see how they decorated the place, granted it was their first but still a senior county final is a senior county final and should mean something to a team to win it. just shows the support a big town has - very little and this does not support a bright future

Exactly i think players would rather a break now from club football instead of a competition spread over 2 months which is way 2 long, also if you receive a walkover you mighnt play for four weeks which is ridiculous. It needs to be held in feb/march in prep for county 20s and over consecutive weeks with proper fines for walkovers

And I presume none of these players will be made available for the regional games.
