Can't see Mickey Harte getting ousted out of that job, not without a fight anyway. I think he'd have the full backing of his players too if push came to shove (not that it will anytime soon anyway).

Tyrone might be the hungrier team and better on the sideline too with a manager the team seem to wholeheartedly trust. Mayo are more experienced on the big stage though and might be more up for this match than any other match this year. I think Mayo have better individuals whileTyrone perhaps have the better system. It's going to hard fought for whoever wins, in my opinion.

GAA Discussion / Re: Mayo v Westmeath Round 4B

Mayo will likely win this. They would be better off just doing enough to win though and not producing anything that's going to get people over excited. No sense in doling out hammerings in the qualifiers. Save the big performance for a later date. I'm sure this is what Mayo intend to do as well.

Mayo should win this and use it as a platform to build a proper season. They are still very capable of making it to the latter stages of the summer if they use this unexpected detour as a motivator.

On O'Shea, I see he's back in the papers today, talking about the match. I think this is a time for going to ground, regrouping, spending time with teammates and management, and focusing the minds on the job ahead, not standing in the glare of the camera and getting into a discussion with the media about what went wrong. That's a discussion for their own dressing room. Why isn't management insisting on this?

Been wondering about the near-constant injury problems in the Mayo squad myself. This is a strength and conditioning issue.

Mayo's lack of energy should be cause for concern. Off the pace all over the pitch and actually didn't even look very fit. It's good to see Connaught being injected with something new, but leadership, fighting spirit, and actual will to win was missing with Mayo yesterday. Maybe the qualifiers will force them to shape up if they're serious about salvaging their season, but things are really going to have to improve in their fitness levels and overall attitude. Young O'Connor is the captain now, I see. Now is the time for him to lead by example.

Roscommon will win this one. I think they probably have their eyes firmly set on a Connacht title. Don't think they'll get it this year, but perhaps in the next couple of years.

Best of luck to Jamie. It's an amateur sport and nobody is obliged to play, no matter how talented they might be. Players are not slaves to the game. He's entitled to get out there and live his life as he chooses, and there's certainly plenty more to life than living in Crossmaglen and playing football.

This might be competitive for the first half, but I fully expect Mayo will up the ante when they need to and get the job done handily enough.
