Have to ask why was there 7 in one car? anyways Shocking news may they all rest in peace

There were actually 8 people in the Passat, with the driver being the only person to survive.
It seems that the Passat had hit a Megane side-on before running into the Toyota. Looks likely that the driver of the Passat lost control of the car going round a bend in the road, as there were pictures of the scene where it hit the Megane, with the Megane well inside it's own side of the road.

I think it's a disgrace the way the majority of those who have posted on this thread have completely ignored the important issues raised, with only one person brave enough to tackle the problem.

Blocked drains are a blight on modern day plumbing.

I see from reports that the funeral was attended by multiple representatives of the DUP (including the aforementioned local MP) along with SF, UUP and SDLP and Fine Gael.

Good, it's as it should be. We are making progress then.

I am glad they went.

But surely this can't be. Surely the facts  are that these evil huns will never, ever dare set foot inside the home of the great satan.  ::)

Its not a cheap point scoring exercise. It is about the fact that in 2009 unionists cannot bring themselves to attend the funeral of a murdered member of a British Police Force and the British Conservative Party has now formally linked up with a branch of unionism, whoch means that unionists could conceivably be in the British Cabinet.

Entirely valid point and surely this will cause more hurt and insult to the Carroll family.

Imagine is  a black person was murdered in London and the sitting MP could not attend his funeral. Image the outcry of racism etc

Maybe I'm just being over-critical of Tony's view on the situation.... But maybe he's betraying his  non-too-thinly veiled hatred of everything to do with anything remotely British / Protestant/ Loyalist/ Unionist.
But then again... maybe I'm wrong.

I just hope that the praise for the said MP is as glowing as his comdemnation of his 'pre-supposed' absence is equally vociferous.

I wont hold my breath.

Over to you Tony....

Quote from: stibhan on April 23, 2008, 09:31:56 PMLong Kesh/Maze or whatever the hell you want to call it seems to be the most viable option in terms of this fundamental issue.
I'm going to take a guess that you've never been to the Maze site. It is in a staunchly Loyalist area (complete with flegs on lamposts etc) with one road in and out. Assuming that you are genuinely concerned about safety, can you please explain how a ground at the Maze would be safer that a ground in Belfast, which already has all the infrastructure in place?

The Maze/Long Kesh is hardly surrounded by a litany of housing estates within 2 minutes walk of it, so your point doesn't really compute. Let's be serious here, talking about the low-density population of the country and trying to compare it to a city situation is a little bit futile. It's a little bit easier to steward and police events like these in the country (at the former site of a large jail, you say??!!) than it is in the city, especially one with tribal lines and no-go areas running across it. Let's be serious here- the idea that the maze, a national prison, was anywhere near any houses is laughable. Get real, sweetheart.
You obviously don't know either the North Foreshore site, or Titanic area.

North Foreshore site is completely surrounded on all sides by either sea, motorway or industrial units. It is not within 10 minutes walk of any residential area, never mind 2 mins.

Titanic Quarter is surrounded by sea, industrial units, dual carriageway and the nearest inhabited area to it is a wee place called Short Strand.

But don't let your obvoius lack of local knowledge distract you from your wee rant.
