Quote from: NorthAntrim on January 25, 2024, 02:30:07 PMIts pretty rife down south. Can't see us ever benefitting from it!

Antrim are a tier one county, so unless someone does a full county transfer Antrim won't benefit from this.

Derry being a tier 2 county can register lads from tier 1 counties but I thought you at least had to be living in that county. Evidently not

He should have  turned on the tears as well. That   would have  put the tin hat on it

Why do you find it so hard to believe dissident loyalists have been threatening him when you can see it on Twitter every day? Put your biased cynicism to one side and look at it objectively.

Lie down with dogs and you'll get fleas...

Donaldson as much as anyone gave bin man, LCC and the OO too much credence at the start and led them down a blind alley with his 7 tests stuff.

He'll reap what he sowed.

Quote from: 5times5times on January 12, 2024, 11:21:35 AMAny of you men here owned a mid 10s BWM 420/430D? And is it actually true cars are cheaper in England?
I have a 2017 420d xdrive, the 5 door one (grand coupe). I haven't had any issues so far apart from the constant call backs because of the EGR problems. They finally replaced the whole unit just before Christmas though. I like it, handles really well and it's nice to drive.
I have a mate who has the 3 door 430d which is 2014 and he had a massive issue with it last year, 2 grand problem. Can't remember the actual problem though and it was high mileage. He stills loves it though.
Are the EGR problems related to the type of driving ie town driving v motorway driving? I know town driving is not ideal for diesel engines.

My Mrs has a 2019 118d and EML starting coming on just as 12 month warranty ran out (classic woman completely ignored it and just drove on anyway). She only commutes about 12-14 miles each day and presuming the previous female owner was doing the same as the mileage wasn't high when she bought it.

Maybe get it mapped and the EGR bypassed?

With me working from home a lot more now I've started getting bother from the EGR due to short runs to and from schools etc and no long commutes so time to get it mapped out, hopefully soon.

Thing goes like an absolute pig every once in a while with the engine management light on and off all the time.

Shock Jock as been replaced by Holly Hamilton the last few weeks allegedly but was well enough to call in with his  wee titbit

I think he was on holidays in the States

Minimum 5 hours behind, so the shock jock got out of his bed at 4 or 5 in the morning to scupper Donaldsons attempt to get Stormont up and running...

Donaldson needs to grow a set all the same, but the amplification of a minority of hardliners by Nolan isn't helping.

Quote from: skat man on January 22, 2024, 02:31:09 PMfootball clubs probably dont see it in their best interest to promote hurling and it is probably the same in reverese in ards . Are there many succesful senior dual clubs except slaughtneil ?

The level of success achieved by the likes of Slaughtneil is unprecedented in terms of dual success at provincial level and indeed camogie, but I'd counter that the likes of Bredagh, Carryduff and Liatroim do a fine job in promoting all codes with honourable mentions to Clonduff and Castlewellan also.

It helps to have big numbers

Quote from: Applesisapples on January 22, 2024, 11:41:12 AMIt was the worst display of hurling reffing I have seen in some time. Gaels will feel hard done by. Red was soft though probably correct by the letter although worse was let go. He didn't card a St Thomas player for a strike in the second half because he was on yellow presumably. Hugh Lawlor was hauled to the ground with the forward holding his stick, he got carded an a free in for a point.

Wasn't great and wasn't helped by his umpires to be fair, the player shoved over the catch nets should have been booked too, red card on slow mo didn't get to the other side, but the ref was looking straight at it. missed the headbutt too

As for Lawlor, that's a hard one to get unless he sees him grabbing the hurl

The game was played with a lot of slaps and hard tackles which spilled over at times, so not an easy one to be involved with

Lawlor knew what he was at, missed the catch and knew the Thomas's lad was favourite for the ball once it slipped behind him, the ensuing "tangle" was Lawlors doing.

Refs need to curb the slap down or chop in hurling, it's let go quite a lot at this level and is creeping into club hurling. A few broken hands will result from it.

It was a really hard day for both refs, Stack was trying to let it flow but for the last 15 minutes of the first half it was getting niggly between both teams and he tried to gain control.

One mistimed shoulder, flying elbow resulted in a red, player can have no qualms, another well timed shoulder resulted in a free and a yellow, no wonder Paul Kinnerk coaches the Limerick lads not to shoulder and use the arms in the tackle.

Quote from: DuffGael on January 22, 2024, 11:12:04 AMThe only way to improve hurling in Down is to get more clubs playing, we punch way above where we should and produce hurlers of real quality but just dont have the critical mass to be a top tier team. Some of the bigger football only clubs should start hurling.

Could it be that larger football teams would not be affiliated with a hurling club? Would the young men from Kilcoo not play for Liatroim? Kilcoo had a few talented players in the 80s.

Some have done at underage, but nothing to sustain a standalone adult team, but rather than lump in with Liatroim who are already serious senior contenders maybe work with the likes of Ballela, Ballyvarley instead to bring their player bases up.

I'm expecting Castlewellan to start pushing up the ranks at adult, but it'll take a few more years for their work at underage to come good.

If only we could get Ballybeen, Kilcooley and the Westwinds to take up the hurling we'd make inroads..  ;D

Quote from: imtommygunn on January 22, 2024, 12:48:56 PMHow were they? Sure they beat the overwhelming favourites Ballygunner? I didn't see the odds before the game but this was a 50/50 game for me.

St Thomas's were unreal in that semi-final so the big question about them is whether they can replicate that performance in a final against a Kilkenny team and in that second half they really delivered..

Big shout out to Conor Cooney, supremely talented hurler who turned up in a big way in the second half when needed by his teammates.

Quote from: Mikhailov on January 21, 2024, 03:09:10 PMMR2,

How do you excuse the 2 umpires in the hurling final - standing 3 yards behind the nets and ball in the goal mouth. Very contentious decision to disallow the goal and obviously more so when Gaels end up losing by 1.
Surely, one has to remain post side but you will know better

Tough enough one. There's no point standing beside the post if the shot was for a point,  you need to get behind the post in line with whoever is shooting but once you know they're going for goal you need to get yourself inline with the post.
Even at that Fintan Burke would have needed arms the length of a gorilla to keep that ball from going over the line.
