GAA Discussion / NO MORE BARRACK GAMES
March 21, 2010, 11:55:07 PM
well Scotland v ireland was the last of that lot, as a bitter opponent of letting soccer and rugby into croker i have to say that after a few games and the good vibe that came with the positive press it wasn't that bad after all and the money is very useful. contracts with Aviva mean that even for big games rugby and soccer must be played at landsdown road (40000) which will inevitably push soccer/rugby out of reach of ordinary working class who given the price that will have to be charged for tickets simply wont be able to afford them. something of an own goal. no doubt our forward thinking leaders will see the big picture and reduce prices to attract the salt of the earth types... thats not even funny is it?  ::) no they'll say soccer is so much and rugger is so much we should charge more and besides we need the money etc.. brace yourselves lads theres a storm coming

didn't get to the match had to resort to the radio {bbc} the whole second half the was only one team in it. but I've been reading this thread from the beginning and there has been definite smugness on the orange side of the fence from the very start. there has never been more than the kick of a ball between the two sides, sure we've had success and so have down. so i don't know where the massive confidence was coming from. listening to the match there was one glaring fact none of the kernans are county players! Arron was the pick of them and hes dissappeared up his own you know what. I've know doubt that at training they work hard but their inability to move the ball QUICKLY AND ACCURATLY is starving our forwards of ball winning opportunities, think back to the days when Andy mccann, geezer and keiran hughes and how they raced up the wings and gave good diagonal ball to the forwards or even kicked a point or two. these lads are getting caught in possession or are messing about til all the oppositions defenders have set up. all our forwards can score but they need quality ball. its not happening if we had things like playercam these guys wouldn't get on. as for mckeever hes a good player but he loves the rough stuff the rest of the armagh simply aren't up for it and are obviously getting sidetracked by his misplaced aggression. if he wants to impress anyone keep his man scoreless and limit his influence thats his job but do it clean- thats impressive

so whats the outcome? is the national anthem being debased? I'm as wise as ever except that now i suspect that we nordies have more in common with our immediate adversaries the unionists than with our so called brothers in the 26 counties apart from our love of Gaelic games that is. there is very definite resentment between north and south and its nothing to do with the outcome of football/hurling matches so what is it??

true, paddy O wont want to see down trashed but the players will go for it regardless. mckeever loves this stuff, he'll be on clarkes tail, in his face, never fails to rise to the occasion.  hate to use martin mc hughs meanderings but clarke v mckeever will be worth queing for. it'll be low scoring i think armagh by 4 or 5. downs defence is waiting to be exposed.

good to see everyone upbeat and positive, i was watchin the scores on tv text and it was looking like we'd threw it away. as i thought clarke is very rusty. it will be good to watch next week against stiffer opposition. c'mon the orchard

at our club only one person has all the kids numbers. if you want to contact them you give your message to that person and they send it on to the relevant caller group. the fone used belongs to the club only one person has access to it, so no messing.. shes beyond reproach (social worker)

i read in the star that nixon believes that the afl is light years ahead of the gaa in terms of fittness and body strenght and that any irish lads heading to oz have little or no chance of making it onto a first team. that being the case most of them will be back playing gaa inside a year nicely suntanned and  on crutches or in a wheelchair..

jez lads they made a pure fool out of young mckenna what was the point of throwing him on with about 30secs to go in the couple of games he featured. would be surprised if he told them to stick it. laois will be takeing this game seriously as they still view armagh as a big name side, similary we need to beat them well in order to maintain momentum and team building. winning is a habit

Armagh were,nt doing alot in the 90s, and because it was prebackdoor you followed the fortunes of the likes of down. my mate and i intended going to a down match in the league but it was called off. armagh v dublin was in breffni pk so we took a shoot over couldnt believe my eyes fellas like ger reid and damien horisk were running riot. armagh beat dublin that day and i didnt miss a match league or championship for the next ten years. we'd football nearly every week. this was the start of a terrific spell for us there were very few supporters at this match i always felt special cause we were like the first members of the orange army
