GAA Discussion / Best Goal Ever Scored

What is the best intercounty goal you've seen?

I'd have to go for 1. Joe Kavanagh's in the 1999 All Ireland final:

followed by 2. Eoin Bradley against Down in 2005:

and 3. Declan Meehan's in the 2000 All Ireland final for the great interplay and finish:

I don't see how you can deem that it was unintentional!!

Along the same lines - Ciarán Duff's sending off in the '83 All-Ireland final...

In that 95 semi Tyrone were struggling, and then  Cush came on and hit the balls in as good as Brian mc Guigan at his best.  A much forgotten man amongst the Tyrone faithful.  I remember in the 91 league semi final against Dublin as a 20 year old and his points against Meath in 96 marking him out as one of the top talents of his era.  How Francie Mooney ignored him and  5 time ulster winner Ger Cavlan in his lists is beyond me.
Is there no utube footage of tyrone V meath 1996? and I mean the points as well as the hits.

Yeah- here's one of Martin O'Connell and Brian Dooher ...

What is the best intercounty goal you've seen?

I'd have to go for John Fenton's against Limerick in 1987:

His real name is Shane Patrick Roche and his parents are Irish, so he might have swung a hurley before.

Best bit is about 49 seconds into it... ;D

What is the best intercounty point you've seen?

For me it's Eoin Quiqley's wonderpoint for Wexford against Kilkenny in 2005

Ciaran Carey's equaliser against Clare in the 96 MHSF in the Gealic Grounds will never be equalled in any code of sport  .

That would be my top hurling score ever never mind point. Inspirational stuff.

I thought it was the winner though.

Fantastic point alright ...but if we're talking about the greatest ever, I'd have to give the nod to Eoin Quigley:

The word genius is overused but fits that score :o

I expect Cork to win  this by 5/6 which will make for a tough month in the Kingdom as we mourn the passing of another chance to win a minster title

I don't buy that for a second John, you're just being coyly confident  ;)

How many was in it in last year's Munster final at half time ? Enter Michael Cussen and total change. Some comeback.

Kerry will be hurting from that and Jack will want to get one over on Cork.

I'd say Jack will want to get one over Tyrone ;)

As Paidi O Se said a few years ago - they don't care about Munster medals anymore down in Kerry - only All Irelands.

That said, Jack and Kerry will be watchful of a Cork team improving the whole time - that could be ready to challenge for an All Ireland at last this year. :-\

Some lad put together a few video clips of old Meath - Dublin games on youtube.

Here's the link:

Some classic moments in there.

Can't wait for the match...
