Some of you might be interested in this, it's been set up by a professional historian. Hopefully it will be well moderated and not dragged into the gutter by clowns trolling, baiting etc

I just did a quick Google there to see if I could find the actual numbers taking the shilling and swearing the oath. In doing so I came across a Tribune article from December which says there was 85 last year and 8 the year before. Anyone want to suggest how the Indo got their 'estimate' of 4k? Looks like "Sir" Tony is playing at recruitment sergeant - and that's another **** who should be stripped of his citizenship.
Yes, once again Dr Sir Tony O'Reilly's comics are doing their bit for queen and country. As for the 4K Irish citizens joining the Brits, well such a round number is pulled out of some comic writer's ar$e. And of those ' Irish citizens ' joining the Brits, the vast majority of them are plastic Paddy's born in England and taking out irish citizenship as they may deem it useful when appying for visa's etc in some country's.

So, is this a sign that ' Ulster ' is truly doomed ?

The Stormont Executive's First Minister has said Northern Ireland's future in the United Kingdom could depend on Catholics, wary of Ireland's economic woes, voting across the traditional divide.

Actually, the big difference is that when people vote in an election (W'minster, Stormont, council etc), they aren't voting in a referendum on a UI, they are voting on a whole variety of issues, for a whole variety of reasons.

Whereas this Opinion Poll was asking people how they would vote in a Referendum on a UI. As such, the latest results only confirm the trend from previous Polls, eg 2009:
http://www.ark.ac.uk/nilt/2009/Political_Attitudes/NIRELND2.html

Conclusion?

It's over, you've lost, come back to us again in 2116...

The opinion poll is a load of bollox - This is the same 'accurate' survey that puts 2010 political party support at - DUP 18%, SDLP 17%, UUP 16%, Sinn Fein 11%, Alliance 10%
http://www.ark.ac.uk/nilt/2010/Polit.../POLPART2.html

But how people actually voted in 2010 - DUP 24.96%, SDLP 16.47%, UUP 15.19%, SF 25.52

And here's how people have voted over the last 40 years -

1969 – Unionists 67.4%  Nationalists 18.8%
2010 – Unionists 50.6%  Nationalists  41.9%

British occupation has two, at most three decades left. If we can wait 8 centuries that time will fly by.

Hector is a good laugh - even for a Meath man. I think it's a good show and should do well. I like the Paddy Walsh character Hector keeps referring to as " one offical that every club has ".

Well let's see him come down to Dublin with their banners featuring the butchers apron to throw a party in Dublin for his team's fans just to prove his point and they'll get the a nice ' reception '  ;)

So nationalists, do we need a unionist tosspot telling you that you that Ireland is two different countries and should never have a single team ?

" Nigel Worthington has given a firm 'no' to the possibility of an all-Ireland football team.

And the Northern Ireland manager wants to throw a party in Dublin for his team's fans just to prove his point.

Worthington was in Dublin yesterday as the fixtures draw for the Carling Nations Cup was made and he would rather beat the Republic of Ireland than join them.

"Northern Ireland is a different country to the Republic of Ireland. You have your own team, you have your own nation. It's as simple as that," said Worthington. "I think every nation is entitled to their own team. I feel very strongly that the Republic has their team, we've got our team, Scotland and Wales and so on...

Ridiculous. Britian is only 13 miles from Antrim, the sooner the OO and the rest of the filth head home the better.

I think it was a brave decision and I support them for doing this.

People might think this was a stupid thing to do, or pettty, however, this news spread
across the world through the internet, and made the news in every major newspaper in Israel.
It has sent out a message to Israel that the world will not forgive them for their treatment
of the Palestinians, and what they did in Gaza last year.

Today marks the 1,000th day of the illegal siege on Gaza. It's time that Governements in the west
stopped bowing down to Israel/US pressure and take a stand like the councillor's in Carrickmacross
did. This siege has to end, for the sake of humanity.

Yes indeed it is a brave decision. I'm sure their were plenty of dickhead's with stupid comments about the Dunnes stores workers who picketed their shop in Dublin and brought world wide attention to Dunnes importing South African food. However small, the Carrickmacross councilors who took out his siganture did more for the grossly mistreated Palestinan's or any other mistreated people than most of you ever did in your life.

And as for the Zionists making jibes at the country about Father Ted etc, I suppose if Irish public officals made some jibes about a ficticious Rabbi and poor little Isreal we'd never hear the endless calls of  " anti Semitism.....anti Semitism.....anti Semitism "  ::)

Carrickmacross Councillors removed a page signed by the Israeli ambassador. Well fair play to them I say. Appearently it was supported by Sinn Fein, a Green and a Fianna Fail councilor. However Foreign Affairs minister Micheal Martin criticised the council's decision but then what else would you expect from mega hypocrite in the Dail.

Obviusly the blueshirts didn't support it but then they have a histroy of admiring fascism like Franco's gang in the Spainish civil war so naturally they would be fans of the zionist state.

How do you know it was Mossad?
Well it wasn't Gail Folliard from Ireland.

Undoubtedly true - however other agencies murdering terrorist leaders to make it look like another rival one carried it out in order to stir up some trouble is hardly a new tactic
Ok, I know your trying to get a discussion going, but let's get real. Let's say, some suicide bombers jump on a bus in Paris full of Isreali/American tourists and blow themselves and the tourists up. Undoubtably almost every reasonable sane person will start to say it's Al Queda or whatever Islamic extremeists.

Already Isreal and their friends are pushing the theory that it was an Islamic Machevilian operation to discredit Isreal or something FFS  ::). Let's stop beating around the bush grasping at straws to try and deflect the blame from quite obviously what any sane person knows who done it. We all know it's poor little Isreal once again.

Places I like -

1 Czech Republic. Loved it, great history etc. WOMEN ARE GORGEOUS. (Beer's cheap but a bit weak).
2 Holland. Lived in Amsterdam. Like the Dutch, easy going and easy to get a long with. Plenty of blonde hotties also.
3 Paris. Class city even for a bowsie from Dublin like me.
4 Kinsale, nicest town in Ireland and has plenty of good restaurants.

Place I most dislike.
ISREAL. Never been to the scumhole but for obvious reasons I hate the place and especially the people. A bunch of fascist, lying, conceited scum.

I found it common place among the Irish backpacking around Australia, maybe that was them hanging around with the Brits too much or living in a colony of the Empire I don't know. It used to make me sick, last Bastille Day in an Australian nightclub in the middle of a group of Irish & Brits slagging off the French I grabbed a French tri-colour from a group of French and proceeded to hoist it up on the roof to cheers from the French. Drunken Irishman in Australia  ;D
Well, when you have ' Irish ' people who follow English soccer like it's the be all and end all of everything, it's not surprising they act like Brits, though it has to be said they don't drop as low as your average assho1e that follows the English national team  - " their ain't no black in the union jack, let's send them back " at black players playing for England, I'd rather be a Packie than a Frog/Kraut/Itie/Diego etc

But that's the Brits for you, they still have that jingoistic sh!te in them, " their's only two races in the world - the British and the rest " etc, etc

The worst racists I've encountered are the Irish and Irish Americans in New York... true right wingers. Horrible shower.

WTF...Please explain....  :o

It's a long story but I was in the Bronx for a few years in the early 90s and the attiude of the Irish and Irish American wannabes towards blacks and other minority gropus was appaling. Where do I start? As a black man told me over there, 'The first word the Irish learn getting off the plane is nigger.' A Jewish man told me the Irish are equal opportunists, they discriiminate against everyone. I was friendly with a few Peurto Ricans and went into an Irish cafe one night and next day the Kerry waitress told me not to bring them in again. When I told this to other Irsih people, most agreed with her. They banned Gays from their St Patrick's Day parade.
I could give dozens of examples. I found it quite an eye opener. Striking up a friendship with a black person was certainly frowned on by the Irish about Fordham Road, Decater Avenue and that area. Irony was they were throwing money into buckets for Irish freedom
I remember reading about when 19 year old Brenadette Devlin ( McAliskey) was in Chicago and was going to give a speech in a cinema been organised by just about every right wing redneck bigot from Ireland and Irish America. Some young black Americans turned up to hear her and the organisers wouldn't let them in. She wouldn't shake hands with Mayor Daly for his mistreatment of Anti Vietnam protestors by the Chicago police and refused to speak until they let them young blacks in. A major row insued, so as a comprise they let in the young blacks but they had to stand at the back. Some woman Bernadette.
