That d*ck Billy Sheehan must've taken something before the game

Always thought he was a bit of a p***k anytime i have seen him play, especially against ourselves in 06.
[/quote]

Thought the same myself, he was running about like someone on drugs!! A Few of the ulster lads tried to put manners on him!! Where was Karl Lacey yesterday?

Who is Kerry's conditioning coach?

Have any of you any sense at all ?

So what about a conditioning coach , it is this nonsense about bench pressing ( ego pressing) that really will get Armagh nowhere.
Yes in their single year of the last 125 years of the gaa they had a few guys who spent their time in a gym and the rest out of it reading the latest book from the us by a baseball or american football coach about team play!An absolute joke and this  nonsens of quotes and sayings of the great coach gurus is quite pathetic!
But hey that is Armagh the 1 year wonders! Now they are all so happy about a conditioning coach who if he was worth his salt at all would be somewhere else and not Armagh !

you on your period? Who mentioned bench pressing.. I said at least they should be as fit as other teams which last year they weren't!! Also having a man of his experience will be of great help to youngsters!!

Lads, Mike McGurn is an amazing appointment, credit has to be given, he's probably the best fitness guru in the land, it's akin to appointing Ger Hartmann as your team physio.

well one thing that I seen in armaghs last championship game against monaghan was that they looked to me to be blowing out of their holes!! You would have to think that from a conditioning point of view they will be up there with the best in the country!! What do use make of the idea that he will be working with all levels down to development squads.. I think it could be a masterstroke!! I know strenghth and conditioning are not the be and end all but this setup will prepare future players better for making the step up to senior level (raymond mulgrew in Tyrone is a prime example).

McGurn has a good rep and I'm glad to see someone like him coming in to add a bit of professionalism to the circus.

I'm wondering what happens in a year's time when someone else comes in at senior level and wants their own fitness trainer?

I've been reading bits and pieces through the last few months about Mick Mcgurn. Firstly the International rules panel and specifically Sean Cavanagh were raving about him and how advanced and suitable his techniques are to a Gaelic football environment. Also he has a column with a national newspaper (guardian or telegraph) and his articles are very interesting and you get the impression he knows what hes on about. If there is any truth in the idea of him working with all ages of Armagh teams this would be a major major coup. It was only last year i think that the New Zealand rugby union board wanted him as a "performance Director" for fitness and conditioning. This is essentially what he would be doing with Armagh. I wonder what sorta money he would be on?

Also Ive heard from numerous sources that Paul Kelly is a very astute football man but his main strength is his organisational skills with regards to management and getting things in place. He has to take alot of credit for recent underage successes in Armagh as he was the man who got the coaching structures in place years ago. Also he would know almost every young fella coming through the various underage teams better than most in the county so would be a good man to advise O'Rourke. To be honest if O'Rourke got the chop next year and McGurn was signed for 5 years i think any manager would want a man of his rep involved (Big joes after him and he knows a thing or two  ;)

Thanks for the reply. Although it wasn't what i was looking for. I have the exclusive rights to sell/distribute a golf swing training aid in land and the UK, that is currently on sale in the US market and selling quite well at that. Basically i wanted to see what people currently use and how much they pay for them.

If anybody has any contacts in the golf industry and are interested in taking a look at the product, send me a personal message.

Have been playing golf in bits and pieces for a few years but never play for a sustained length of time to improve. My clubs are very basic and as I've been playing alot recently I wouldn't mind investing in a new set at a max cost of say £500.. Anyone have any suggestions? Also what courses around the north of Ireland would people recommend to play? I'm off work for 2 weeks and wouldn't mind trying a few different courses.

QuoteDinny have to say i've been very impressed with use so far, there's now a lot more variety to your play.. It's no longer the John Doyle show.. There has obviously been a serious amount of high quality work done over the winter months both from a technical and Physical conditoning point of view and it's evident to see the rewards.. As you said your kick passing is very very good and the players are flying. You seem to be a man in "the know"... What is the opinion of the players towards to management team..

I wouldn't say I'm close at all but would know senior players involved and I think at this stage they would walk through walls for McGeeney, he has giving the squad amazing belief and they're absolutely loving it but the mantra is it's all about the team, every player is just a component in the team.

I know the Armagh players always mentioned that grimleys tackling drills are legendary and he has obviously brought this into kildare. Bernard Flynn was saying last nite On the Sunday game that Kildare trained during the week in tullamore and the locals who were watching the session said they had never seen nothing like it with regards to intensity.

Intensity that is the key, McGeeney expects the players to put in 100% in training, if he feels they're not he's very quick to let them know, it took a while but the players have completely bought into it, Grimleys drills are seemingly as intuitive as they are intense

Personally I think McGeeney and co will stay the duration that they agreed and then Armagh will come knocking.

Will Grimley return to Armagh?

QuoteThe only word of warning is that they've not really played anyone of note...

I think that is a massive fear but Laois put it up to Kildare for 25 mins last night, there was no panic and Kildare stuck with the game plan. The Leinster final will be a great litmus test, we won't be winning All-Irelands but we will be very competitive.

Will grimley return.. Will McGeeney? Who knows but I firmly believe he will and as long as they don't fall out I think grimley will be along with him.. This is a new Armagh squad and grimley won't be coming into the setup with players knowing how he works as alot of them wouldn't have spent much if any time under his guidance before. What's his job with DCU?

I see see the tv3 pundits tipped Kildare to beat the dubs!!

Btw this may never happen.. But as an Armagh man I would love to see geezer back sometime, however I'm fully behind Peter McDonnell next week!!

From a Kildare perspective, McGeeney has switched the training emphasis from fitness to skills, all there is some generally team conditioning and stamina work the majority of Kildare's sessions are about ball work under intense pressure with the basics the only thing that matters.

Kildare are very conditioned but the majority of this was done in the off-season and the players spent 6 weeks in effectively a boxing camp. To supplement this they are given specific gym programs which they have to do 3 times a week, this is core-conditioning work devised by Julie Davis, does DCU and use to work with the Cavan footballers. The players are spilt into pods and these pods work in the gym. It's my own opinion that Kildare are using a training system called periodisation which is about increasing and decreasing intensity levels at certain times to help athletes peak, I believe that because our one defeat this year was in the league to Armagh where Kildare were very sluggish and I subsequently learned that the week prior to that was the most intense of the year which fits into my theory, I've asked the players but it's never been discussed.

Anyway not to deviate from the point the majority of McGeeney's and Grimley's sessions are all done with the ball working basic skills. The rewards have been remarkable and to be brutally honest Kildare's forwards were hardly the most feared in the land but if we look at our last three championship games Offaly 1-12 from play, Wexford 2-10 from play and Laois 2-10 from play, those are remarkable statistics for any county. It's not just our shooting, or foot passing is probably the best in the country and we're not neglecting our tackling either.

People talk about McGeeney's organisational skills but his biggest impact in my opinion is coaching ability and this is been reflected in the players. I think we can get better too and next year I think is when McGeeney's tuition will really show.

yea I would agree with that, but then again you can only beat what's in front of you and thus far they have done that with quite a degree of comfort.. Should be a good final.. Dublin looking good at the min.. Think that will really show how much they have came on!!

Went down to the game as a neutral.. First of all the stewards and security staff are a disgrace.. You ask them if the stand ticket you bought for £20 can get you into the covered stand was told no and to "move along"... Just complete ignorance.. I've heard the stories about casement before but now I'm believing them.. It's not too much to ask to be civil to patrons!!

On the game I have to say I was expectng Derry to give Tyrone a game of it for 55-60 mins. Is it just me or was cassidy found out today to a certain extent.. The amount of ball that was kicked down conor gormleys throat was scandelous and no change was made.. All this talk of the "system" they now adapt.. Where was it?.. I can't see them picking themselves up after that.. They wanted an ulster this year. Doohers some man.. I dunno how he does it.. He looks like a man of 70 running onto the pitch!!
