The thing is, you cant have it both ways.
You cant expect to compete at the top level of your sport (be that inter county or club) and not take it seriously, or not make sacrifices.
That's just the way it is, its that hard work that makes success all the more sweet.
As AZ says there are different levels to play at if all you want is come out and play a bit on a sunday.

I would agree with you there to a certain extent. However say in Tyrone (where I have actually ended up myself so see what is going on), where does the lad who just wants a game of football go if he is from a Dromore, Carrickmore, Clonoe etc? I know he would have very little chance of getting a game of football if he just turned up on a Sunday looking to play a bit of reserves. Even if you go to Division 2 its the same thing.

Don't get me wrong to achieve any success at club level now , sacrifices have to be made whether with home or working life and I'm not disputing that. I think the article does have some valid points but goes over the top in other areas.

Burns would make any club team in Tyrone. And as for goalkeepers I don't think there's any real outstanding club goalkeeper from what I have seen the past few years. Who would you call up instead of fox?

Was also just thinking to myself there would PJ be one of the last tradesmen to play for the county? They where the norm years ago but the demands of the game mean that they are an endangered species which is a sad IMO!

Not sure if he's still working at the trade but I know he opened a women's sports clothing shop in cookstown a while back.

Has a 5 year automatic invite from winning the open but ends this year. Had to laugh at the bbc yesterday saying he played poorly as he has the Ryder cup on his mind.

Hardly ever. Trillick last year was a first in a while.
Hard to do when you think it should be you there. Jealousy I suppose.

Sure youse won your championship last year beating the rahillys in the first round.

If that happened every year, I would die a happy man!

That's true!!

If you look at the Mayo team that Tyrone beat that year then they only got 3 from it too (Hennelly, Keane and O'Shea). The Tyrone teams from 1997/98 were the exception to the norm with minors teams. I think all of that minor starting team from 2008 still play football barring the 2 errigal lads (though not 100% sure on that) and McNulty who I heard has retired although he has been one of the top forwards in Division 2 for the last 5 or 6 years.

Not sure if there are any penalties but I'd say if the lad got hurt in a match he wasn't supposed to be playing in the club could run into difficulties with insurance etc.

New daddy checking in here. Wee one was five weeks old there yesterday. The sleepless nights are hard getting used to but tbf she does the bulk of it if I am working the next day which is fair I think!

Where would be good to go on Easter Sunday for a drive or something with the child?

Nowhere!! In my experience of having an 8 month old in the house so far are those first few weeks and months your constantly looking at the clock checking for the next bottle. We aren't so bad now with the spoon feeds and a bit more spacing between the bottles. But definitely in those first few weeks it was a case of getting the bottle down her and before you knew it it was time for another bottle. We did take her out but just be well prepared and stocked up!!

Yeah thats the way we worked it with my woman doing most of the night feeds during the week and then I would do my bit over the weekends. Those first few months are testing but we are lucky (?) in that the child is now sleeping all through the night and has been for 5 months.

I would hazard a guess his point was that this is the minor team McKenna starred in 3 years ago therefore would be a big miss from this team. Not sure what your point is?
