It's between Cluxton and Moran. Moran deserves it but it is effectively a popularity contest once it gets down to the nominations. Clarke and McCarthy have no chance and Cluxton may get a lot of sentimental votes due to his standing in the game. However Andy Moran will be very popular as well and based on performances he deserves it anyway.

David Moran and Donal Vaughan not even getting nominated are surprises. Vaughan is effectively getting punished twice for getting sent off but then again John Small was selected.

are you serious about Donal Vaughan.         which 2 performances would you have him there for ???

Didn't know that 2 good performances was the criteria for getting nominated. He has played consistently well without being outstanding but is getting slightly scapegoated for a rash decision in the final imo.

Apart from the moment of madness Vaughan had a very poor final, his mistakes led to 3 points for Dublin in the 1st half.

Just seen the TSG team of the year, I'd give Doherty an All Star ahead of AOS & McLaughlin.

I doubt Rock will be far away too after that performance last Sunday.

Good to see Shaw getting some minutes..

I just hope he responds to the criticism in the same way Martial & Mkhitaryan did. I just hope he stays fit, probably won't get another game until Swansea in the next round. It would be a huge bonus to get him back to where he was at the beginning of 15/16 season.

Can you really mention Tyrone on the same breath as the other 3 any more?
Only last year Tyrone lost a quarter final more than Mayo won it. They aren't at the level of the Tyrone All Ireland winning teams however come next summer i would expect them to be there or thereabouts against both Mayo,Kerry where one side is in transition and the other about to go into transition.

Surely surely you know realise that Mayo in semi-finals and finals versus earlier in the seasons are 2 completely different beasts. They plan to peak for semis and finals and have got it fairly consistently right.
There is simply no way on earth i would compare the Mayo performance against Tyrone last year with any of our performances v Dublin in past few years or v Kerry in 2014.

Mayo have probably been peaking for August since 2012, they didn't have to be anyway near their best to win Connacht from until 2015 given how poor the rest of Connacht were.

Given the age of the squad you'd imagine Rochford won't do anything different next year apart from trying to find new players in the league, I've seen people say the extra games helped Mayo but it certainly took them a while to get going after 4 poor performances in July.

This was the best performance from this Mayo team in a final, if you'd told me before the game Mayo would have won 6 of Cluxtons kickouts in the first half and their full forward line kicked 0-8 from play I'd have said Mayo would win.

Is there talk Rochford hasn't committed to next year?

Said he's going to take month of October to decide - started a new job, has very small kids.

cheers, I'd imagine if SOS, Boyle, Moran & Higgins all give it another go it would be difficult for him to step down.

I imagine the majority of Mayo fans would have bitten your hand off for a draw when Rock popped over that free kick in injury time. It must seem like a long way back to an AI final with this team from here.

I've heard the same comment the last 4 years.

This generation are coming to an end but there's probably another year in them, their 2 oldest outfield players had will both win All Stars.
Will Andy Moran ever have a season again like he just had?

He's 34 in the next few months it would be obvious to suggest not but given he's just had his best ever season how could anyone write him off. Its certainly an ageing Mayo team, from the team that started Sunday 5 players are 30 and another 6 heading for 30 inside the next 2 years.

They don't want our sympathy but you'd have to feel sorry for Mayo, was a heartbreaking defeat for them.

Apart from his sending off Vaughan had a poor game, his daft long ball into COC in the first half and him running down into Dublin defenders both led to Dublin scores seconds later whilst a lazy challenge on another Dublin forward led to a score from a free. Connolly & Kevin Mc both did well when they came on but the HT switches resulted in Durcan been switched from Mannion to Kevin Mc. Harrison was given the run around by Mannion, nearly everytime he gained possession in in the 2nd half a score was never far away.

At half time given how outstanding and dominant Mayo were a point lead never seemed enough with Keegan, Durcan and COC all guilty of missing very easy chances. Dublin found it far easier to score in the second half than Mayo did, they engineered some great individual scores and were more efficient than Mayo in the 1st half. 11 points from play is in a half is outstanding against a team as good as Mayo.

Lucky Jim got out of jail, tactically Rochford had his number on Sunday but because of the age profile of a good few of the Mayo players and the lack of quality coming of the bench hindered Mayo.

I'd imagine the likes of Moran, SOS, Boyle & Higgins will give it another year and they'll be back in the closing stages again next year but really need to use the league to find another couple of players to enhance their chances.

Have the clubs in Mayo got as many tickets as they did last year?

Mourinho doing what he does best, United were average on Saturday and everybody comes away from the game talking about him instead of the performance.

If he'd known how negative Stoke were going to be in the first half I doubt he'd have picked Herrera. It was disappointing to draw after going ahead, the two goals we conceded were very poor. Lack of a proper left back continues to be a problem, Darmain offer nothing going forward.

I'd expect 86/87 points to win a title this season, would expect United to get North of 80 but not sure whether it will be enough to win the title.

Keith Higgins is some athlete for a 33 year old, his athleticism isn't normal for a bloke his age.

As good as Boyle was, I though Higgins was really the MOTM. Consummate footballer.

In each of the last 3 games Higgins has been outstanding and could easily have been MOTM in each of them. Both he and Moran must have a great chance of winning FOTY should Mayo win the AI.

Higgins is something else, one of the true great defenders of the last 30 years. Mayo are blessed to have Higgins, Boyle & Keegan in the same era, players like this are irreplaceable.

Boyle at 20/1 and Higgins at 33/1 are great bets for player of the year if Mayo can beat the Dubs. I just don't see Moran having the same impact in the final that he had against Kerry.

Any of the Mayo posters think Doherty should replace COC on free's?

#1739
Well done Mayo, they were outstanding and comfortably the better team over the 2 games. I doubt too many saw this type of performance coming during July when they struggled against Derry, Clare, Cork & Roscommon and after getting beat by Galway. Many of us thought the extra games would hurt Mayo but the opposite given how poor they were during July although there patches during the Clare & Cork games where Mayo looked good.

I hope Rochford gets the respect he deserves in Mayo, he's still a bit of a laughing stock amongst some in the Mayo support but deserves a lot of credit for his creativeness in the way he's prepared to try something different in pursuit of the big prize.

David Gough showed 19 cards, must be some sort of record. I hope he's nowhere near the final, its fairly obvious that some of the cards issued that were issued on Saturday were a joke but so were some of the free's given. Gough is a forwards dream.

Fairly sure the stat was Kerry scored 0-3 from their own short kick out whilst Mayo scored 1-6 from their own whilst neither side dominated their own kickout when they went long.

Kerry have a greater scope for improvement when looking at some of the stats obviously this doesn't mean they necessarily will. Mayo made so many more tackles then Kerry and made my turnovers than them too. I think Kerry will play the same way tactically but Fitzmaurice will make changes in that full back line.
