il see your Ned Morgan/Dominic Brogan/Brannigan/Rawlinson and il raise ye Leo Smyth or Peter Mc Clorey.

This is another example of what is wrong with Down football. I dont like to name and shame referees however some times it is needed. Ned Morgan,Gabriel Tummelty, Peter Brannigan, Gerard Brannigan, Alan Grant, Micky Cuarn are not up to standard. Can somebody enlighten me on how these fellas are actually judged to become referees? Do they just ring up the secretary and thats it? If they go through training regimes/ gaelic rule classes and then are asked to put on the jersey then this shows just how fragile and naive the county is right now. A whole re-think throughout the county must happen next year both on the pitch and off it!

His CV says that he managed Down minors to all-ireland success. Are you saying thats easy and anyone could have done it?

What else does he need to have achieved?

I personally don't like coming on here and disregarding managers achievements, e.g. turleys all ireland triumph, however it would of been a comfortable job in 2005. Some of yous might not know that in 2004  the minors actually were cruelly beaten by the eventual champions tyrone in the semis by a point (ironically enough managed by Carr) and from that 2004 team, 9 first team players started in 2005 and also players like McCumiskey and Mckernan played who were not there the year before. Common sense would suggest that these boys would come back more focused and determined before. Therefore the managers job was easily done. If you want to suggest Turley, i would say that he would struggle in the hot seat. The seniors at the minute must be low in morale and confidence and Turley has yet to come across this problem. Hes an average county minor manager, definitely not what Down need...

An outsider is needed, however Wee James would do a good job

what about an outside man, maybe its time to look elsewhere?
Basically lads, right now we need somebody with inter-county experience. Somebody to steady the ship. Mistakes must be at a minimum to save us from relegation from division 2. This sacking could prove to come back and haunt the county board, consistency was/is needed

Heaven help us-if the artist formerly known as Gerry Kinneavy was shot for being a referee he would be innocent!! His appointment for the Tyrone game fills me with dread
Its a recipe for disaster that Gearóid Ó Conamha is referring another Ulster team. Every Down man in the country should feel aggrieved with his recent performance. It was, and i still stand by it, one of the worst inter-county referring performances i have ever witnessed. If i was a Tyrone man i would have the rosary beads out praying that Ó Conamha doesn't strike again!!

At the minute I'm only aware of the short-term consequences, e.g. multiple hamstring strains etc. The surgeon just made the vital point that i have to strengthen the hamstring to come back stronger. Common sense would say that it might elongate however hard work conquers all! ;)

Well when you get the op they take half of one of your hamstrings away and when i do short distance jogging you can feel the weakness. It is vital to build the hamstring muscle up after the op to avoid future niggles. I have about 3/4 months to go until i resume full training (even though it will be over by then) but at the minute my rehab is going to plan!  :)

How did you do your cruciate ? Was there contact ? Wearing blades or what at the time ? During a game or just training ?

I did it in a game when i went up for a ball and fell awkwardly.  There wasn't much contact at all. Depends on your jumping and landing technique. I did the whole craic too, anterior, cartilage etc. Pain is unbearable. No i was wearing moldies at the time, it  must be the worst injury there is in all competitive sports!

the worst sporting injury you can get is the anterior cruciate ligament in your knee (cruciate ligament) which keeps you out for at least a year and a half. Career threatening injury

Down to 6/7/8 months now.

i forgot to mention the cartilages and rehab involved with the cruciate ligament. if your unlucky enough to do the cartilage then your facing more time out. 7/8 months and its healed, however if u just go out and play after the 7 months theres a great chance you will do it again because of the lack of strength around the ligament. It takes days of hard work to get yourself right again, i would know all to well... ;)
