Calm down - the lad has only played 9 games for Sunderland. He's made a big impact but we could be watching a re-run of the ridiculous Andy Reid campaign here.

Sanity, there is no panic in giving McClean a Cap, things are happening quickly for the lad and maybe concentrating on Sunderland for the moment may not be a bad thing. It is important to keep solid what we have. Trap is not (at this stage) going to bow to media pressure (thank god).

Dunphy will be glad of this, he will have something to write about in 'The Star'.

Nailed it, we're in a strong position with lots of options, if all fit and well there is still scope for McClean to make it as a wildcard current form permitting, if withdraws then he's certain to be top of the list to go, I hope Coleman isn't the big loser in all this, he has great quality and has a big future.

With the selection Trap has just made it leaves everyone hungry (stokes aside who has cut his own cloth) in that case one or two will have to deal with massive disappointment but a united, competitive and ambitious squad should be heading out to the Euro's and I won't bet against them giving anyone a game

The rumour is that McGuinness was witnessed ordering McLoone to go on and intentionally take out McMahon.
Ah right you are falling into the trap of believing every thing that Nally posts. Now McGuinness may well have said to him that McMahon need stopping but that wouldn't necessarily mean by foul means.

Its nothing to do with believing Nally. My whole point is that people should not be posting anything like about a player or manager when there"s no way of verifying it. Speculate away, but don't be making unsupported anonymous claims about what someone is supposed to have said or done or have been witnessed saying or doing.

Why some people here don't comprehend that is beyond me.
This is a discussion board, half the fun is speculating the other half is arguing the toss.

Speculating is one thing.

Making unsupported allegations that managers were heard instructing players to deliberately and recklessly hit opposition players is another, as was the stuff a few weeks ago when claims were made about Cassidy.

Anyone who cannot see the difference is lacking something upstairs.

that is still speculating in so many words, if you want the discussion to go away then stop posting on it or report it

Now that Fermanagh have announced Peter 'the great' Canavan as their manager is this job a learning curve for Canavan as he waits in the background to one day replace Micky Harte.  I hope it all goes well for Peter in Fermanagh and if reports are to believed he is being well looked after for his services.

i think its fair to say that one day Peter will be the Tyrone manager. his delve into the Fermanagh job is to cut his teeth and learn/develop his own systems and style

i hope that he doesn't take over Tyrone until all the players he played with until 2005 have retired, those who will be around longest from that squad will probably be Joe McMahon, Sean Cavanagh and Dermy Carlin

current thinking seems to be that past greats will go in and coach their team within a few years of retiring, while the opportunity is usually too great to pass up it brings with it problems when you've been one of the lads for so long, then to be the manager of the same lads is too fraught

QuoteI'd also argue that if another life is lost over division/unification, then it's one too many.

I agree that far too many lives have been lost because this island is divided. Not one more life should be lost to keep it divided.

how would a referendum on Irish unity result in a loss of life?

Are you brain dead? Do you not think Martin McGuinesses best mates in the DUP would mobilise the UDA/UVF?

i don't know, would they, and under what circumstances and for what end?

I see from Gabrielle Marcotti on twitter that England played Sweden 10/11/01 and had no poppies or black armbands so what makes them more relevant now?

It's called trying to legitimise their involvement in 2 wars to the British public - see club teams having to wear them, soldiers on the pitches, mention of and wearing in popular British soaps ( Corrie and Eastenders, also Collection boxes on the bar counters etc).
WWI and WWII?

Tony I think you know rightly I meant Iraq and Afghanistan.
Hence the rise of "Poppy promotion" in the last number of years.

totally agree with the above, it is not an issue of respecting those who died in WW's I & II, its a politically motivated attempt at desensatising the British public re their current involvement in Iraq/Afghanistan. i heard it on talksport today Keys & Grey mentioning the soldiers coming back from these places in a box we're being remembered via poppy's, well if that doesn't nail politics to the poppy then i don't know what will. i wonder what talksport or the british public would have to say if the (rep of) Ireland team were to put an easter lilly on their jerseys? finally, don't you think its showing a distinct lack of respect to the WW I & II fallen to act this way in the 21st century, particularly as the England football team played matches all throughout the noughties without a sign of a poppy on the jersey
