The Kerry Junior team is made up only of players who are not playing senior at club level, and it has provided an additional development pathway with several players such as Tadhg Morley and Anthony Maher graduating to the senior panel.

First half had some lovely football. Second half wasn't a great spectacle.

Plenty of cynicism on both sides, Crokes were a bit smarter about it.  They fouled in a systematic fashion e.g. consistently preventing McKaigue from getting going.  But Slaughtneill were up to plenty themselves.  O'Leary's jersey was being pulled constantly.  There were multiple incidents of Slaughtneill players running into Crokes off the ball and diving to the ground.  O'Doherty backed into Payne and threw himself down claiming an elbow.  When Gavin White fell over the ball inside the penalty area, a defender barrelled straight into him from behind with no action from the referee.

Slaughtneill did well against the wind in the first half.  Christopher Bradley showed his class.  Cassidy had a fine half and a nice goal, then committed an act of stupidity with the richly deserved red card. Embarrassing stuff here from a selector trying to defend it.  I would hope he changes his tune after seeing the replay.

For Crokes, Payne was a deserving choice for man of the match, and snuffed out the early threat of O'Doherty.  Cooper looks a mere shadow of his pre-injury glory, but applied a classy finish for the goal.  Looney kicked some beauties.  Casey made a couple of crucial plays.  The impact of Burns and Kiely off the bench was one of the main differences between the teams.

In the end Crokes had the better footballers, and were also cleverer in their application of the dark arts that now pervade the game.  Deegan certainly missed things on both sides, but realistically there is only so much the referee can do under the current rules and with the current attitude of players.

Yes, I've also heard a very different version of events, involving contact being made with man of the match David Clifford's groin.  Tbh I'd be slow to give too much credence to any stories about what actually happened unless it came form a very good verifiable source.

St Pat's didn't seem to be able to cope at all without Conor Glass, and I think they only scored one more point after the red card.   Up to that they looked likely winners.  They were stronger and won midfield, but the Sem did have a bit more class up front.  To be fair, seven points was a flattering margin for the victors, and is stil the closest any team got to them.

St Brendan's 1-18 Abbey CBS 1-6

St Brendan's 0-14 St Flannan's 0-4

St Brendan's 4-15 Coláiste na Sceilge 1-4

St Brendan's 1-14 Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne 0-4

St Brendan's 2-14 St Flannan's 0-5

St Brendan's 5-21 HS Clonmel 0-7

St Brendan's 4-15 St Benildus 0-9

St Brendan's 2-13 St Patrick's Maghera 2-6

Kerry have a long injury list and have been missing a lot of their best players.  Tipperary had a strong team this year, and Limerick were decent too.

If Kerry can get something close to their best team fit and on the field, they should be formidable. If the Munster final comes too soon for that, they may be in trouble against Cork.

James O'D would give Greg Louganis a right run for his money in the diving stakes. For such a talented player, it's a pity to see it. Kerry people would probably pat him on the back for being cute, but its unpleasant none the less.

I think that's a bit harsh.  Certainly I would argue neither of the incidents being cited from yesterday's game was a dive.

The first was early on when Kerrigan pushed him in the back (which should have been a free), causing O'Donoghue to fall heavily on his shoulder (which he had an operation on that kept him out all year until recently).  I'm pretty sure he was genuinely hurt and he was down for some time afterwards.

The second was the dubious penalty.  In that case, Collins ran into him, knocking and pulling him down.  With the benefit of replays, we can see that this appears to have been an accidental collision rather than a deliberate foul, but it wasn't a case of O'Donoghue diving on the ground either. It's not like he threw himself down with minimal contact or feigned injury. He did appeal for a penalty, but in fairness he likely didn't know himself that it wasn't a deliberate foul - he had his eyes on the ball and what he would have felt was someone running into him and pulling him down.

It's Connacht (or Anglicised version if you may Connaught, but nowhere in history, and yes I studied the goddamn thing until the LC have I seen it Connaght)

Connaght

This Province hath been otherwise devided then now it is, by reason the O'Reilies cuntrye (now county of Cavan) and O'Faralls cuntry (now the county of Longford) were held parcell of yt and Thomond or the county of Clare was accounted of Munster. The word Thomond signifieth north Munster, and was in the commission of the presidents of Munster in Sr. Warham Sentligers, Sr. John Perotts, and Sr. Will. Druries tyme. But Sr. Hen. Sidney consideringe the notable bownde yt hath from the rest of Munster, did establish yt under the goverment of Connaght, as yt is at this present. The Province conteineth all the lands circuited with the great ocean, betweene the ryver of Erne nere Asserow40 in O'Donells cuntry, and the ryver of Shenin where yt falleth into the sea, beneath Lymryke. It is in manner an Iland, bycause to the north and the west, yt hath the sea, to the south and easte the Shenin, and to the northeast the loughe and ryver of Erne, onely one small slipp of grounde betweene the Shenin and the Erne leaveth that parte vninclosed. It is devided at this present into sixe countyes. Clare, Sligo, Mayo, Gallwaye, Roscommon and Letrim.

So should the FRC give Clare back to Connacht or Connaght?  Definitely returning the O'Reilies cuntrye and O'Faralls cuntry should fit in pretty well with their plan.  Perhaps it's time to finally restore all its lost lands.

Munster Senior Football Final
Dr Crokes(Kerry) v UCC(Cork and some other places)   live

[/b]

Think you should write "UCC (Kerry and some other places)" there. In the semi-final they fielded eight Kerry, six Cork and one Roscommon!  And that's with the Crokes' Johnny Buckley and Daithí Casey (who now have 2011 senior football championship medals in both Cork and Kerry) out of their team for obvious reasons, and indeed preparing to play against them.

Limerick are shockingly poor. Did you see the shape of their No.11. Can't even run.

James Kelly? That's his natural shape and actually he's quite fast and a strong runner. Largely anonymous tonight though.

How low can we go? 0-7 to 0-1 up at half time and still lose.
Paul Ward missed a 13 yard free for the draw with the last kick, just shocking.
Kilkenny might get their first ever league points on the board at this rate.

Kilkenny have got points before, wouldn't be their first ever.  They beat London two or three years ago for example.

And a bit more on topic, Sheehan is one of the best long-range free-takers we've had in the modern game.

Dont be surprised to see Sheehan in goals for Kerry next year, he played underage goalie and it is a position they are struggling in.

Diarmuid Murphy was certainly a loss this year, a problem exacerbated by the fact neither of the two second-choice 'keepers who might have been seen as candidates to replace him in recent years, Ger Reidy and Kieran Cremin, were available this year. However IMO the problems with Brendan Kealy as number 1 were exaggerated.

Due to the situation he is a young goalkeeper who was parachuted in for his first season. He is an excellent shot-stopper but certainly has work to do on high balls and distribution with both seeming shaky at times during the year. The latter two faults were exaggerated at times in my opinion though. For instance, people pointed to the goal scored by Goulding of Cork with the high ball - in fact Kealy secured the ball only to be dispossessed illegally by pulling the ball from his grasp. Again, an example which was given for distribution was Galvin of Limerick scoring after dispossessing Séamus Scanlon from a short kick-out. I would say this one was more Scanlon's fault than Kealy's.  The goalkeeping position is not the area of strength it was for Kerry, but their situation isn't as quite parlous as some have made out.

QuoteRumour in Kerry is that Dara O'Se is training away

That would be Darragh....Of course he is training away as he is still playing with his club but is out at the moment with a broken bone in his arm.

Dont believe any rumours from Kerry, Bomber Liston was seen kicking a ball last week too..

And it would be Ó Sé if we're going to be enforcing a crackdown on errors in spelling names....
