Back in 1956 portarlington were forced to enter two teams in the senior championship after winning the intermediate title the year before.  Seemingly it created alot of unrest, especially in the selection process

What really stood out today was the basic skills and fundamentals of the game which we couldn't even master. Kick passing was very poor, you'd give out to a young lad if he persistantly carried the ball into the tackle and lost possesion.  With 15 mins to go we bring on one of our greatest servants when the game was well up when we should be  blooding younger players to give them some sort of championship experience even if it was in those circumstances

Very early days n your right we shouldn't cast judgement until the league is over but its amazing how much we've dropped off the pace from 10 years ago or so. Mick o dwyer's b team would have beatin louth. Our problem has been our failure at underage in the last ten years. We told sean dempsey n co his services weren't required anymore n look where we are now. The younger players coming into the senior setups have never been tested at a high level as we don't reach minor n u21 finals anymore albeit last years minor team that we very fortunate the way the draw fell. We need to get our big towns n catchment areas performing again  n the county board should be targeting this. In my own town rugby is a big draw on our players ,we need to make gaa more attractive for these players who are not from the big gaa families. Our population has increased by 20 thousand in the county from ten years ago n yet this is not reflected on the gaa front

I don't agree with reducing the laois championship to 8 teams, but if they did should they not wait an extra year and when this year is finished take the quarter finalists ,seed them back into the 4 groups of 4 so that the worst teams will sink to the bottom then you could drop your 8. The way the  structure is at the moment the bottom 8 teams might not necessarily be the worst 8 teams. For example if portlaoise draw stradbally and arles kilèen draw st joes in the first round. Then two of those losers draw each other then 1 of the  above teams is automatically a senior b team. So i don't think its quite fair

Alot of decisions you might think would get shot down, often pass through because the huling clubs have a vote in football matters n vice vearsa.

Very coincidental  that since i posted up about sean byrne not being involved with the 21's he has since being asked in. We must have county board personell reading n documenting😁😁. Great to see him in though, deserves to be there on merit

While i do agree that amalgamations are the way forward in the laois senior football championship. Think there should be a limit or so on the areas that are amalgamating. I mean clonaslee is a good half hour n the rest away from vicarstown. These ones don't make sense to me.

Find it hard to believe that my own club man sean byrne wasn't even in for a trial with the u21's. Probably one of better county minors n two years of senior club football behind him

Don't think this will go ahead , as if josephs, kilcruise or stradbally finish in the bottom 8 it'll definately be thrown out. Not a good idea to have less players playing senior football. The standard won't improve just because we put different names on it. They've done this in offaly and they're championship is still a poor standard with very average teams in and big score indifferences. Why would you have senior a and senior b when there's not really a big difference between all the club teams bar portlaoise. I mean stradbally were in relegation playoff in 2015 n win the championship in 2016, emo went went the other way.

Bit of a strange one with kieran kehoe being added. I don't think he has trained a senior team? There obviously wasn't too many interested in it if that's the case. In fairness to Gary at least he has trained a senior team in the county n at juvenile aswell so he knows most players in the county n their capabilities.

I stated previously aswell I thought that a stradbally point was  wide. In d first half on the town end n  everyone around me thought d same but maybe it was d angle we were looking from I was on d 45 on d town end. Doesn't really matter now

Quick question for ballyroanabu. Your underage structure is doing very well at the moment but are the areas of shanahoe n colt lumped in with ye aswell n can those lads play senior football with ye in the future?

Thought the game lacked quality to be honest ,however it was exciting for the fact it was so close the whole way through which gave it a little bit of edge. Stradbally deserved their bit of luck at the end of the game because of the way they worked so hard ( typical of Martin Murphy teams). Amazing the way things pan out , jody dillon could have counted himself lucky not too been takin off n then pulls a finish right out of the top drawer. Very few county players on show today really with the exception of begley, cahilanne at times n comerford at centre forward for stradbally who I thought took lillis to d cleaners. Who would have thought that the team that should have been relegated two years ago, lucky to avoid relegation last year would be the ones to topple portlaoise
