I too have seen worse ideas, i get what you're saying  Keyser Söze in regards to Balinakill. with all the amalgamations listed below they may have big areas but the population in them areas would be very low. theres probably more people in on of the housing estates in Abbeyliex than there would be in all of Trumera!

Yeah they are good hurlers in the grade they are playing, but in order for them to excel it's important for the like of those hurlers to be hurling at a higher standard. But in some cases they won't get the chance as their club isn't good enough to play at higher standards, hence why I would be in favour of Gaels or amalgamation teams. Gives them young lads a better chance.

Tcrilly you're right in that some clubs won't want to lose the identity of their club which stops them from joining with others.

With the club amalgamations mentioned do any of you think they could play in the senior championship straight away and be competitive? Personally I don't think so, they would have to play in senior B championship first. I wouldn't think in their first year they would be good enough for senior champs.!!

Colt, Shanahoe, Clonad and part of Trumera are all in the same Parish. why they dont all join together is beyond me. Probably too much bad blood between them all. But they are struggling for numbers on their own, they should look into a amalgamation. it worked for Rathdowney Erill, Borriss Kilcotten, Clough Ballacolla and the Harps (Culahill and Durrow) who were a competitive senior team for years.

Ballypicass and Ballinakill you'd think could join too as some of them would play together for spink football plus geographically there are side by side, let timahooe come in with them too.

i would be in favour for gaels and or amalgamations as there is too many small clubs in laois where the population isnt high, it would have to make for a stronger standard.

I remember in 2009 my club didn't enter any football team (as I am from a predominantly hurling club) I wanted to play with a football team outside my parish but I would not of been granted a transfer from the county board, as I had to play the other club that was in my parish (there's 3 separate clubs in my parish). It didn't overly bother me at the time but I would of thought that if your club hasn't a football team I would have been a free agent and could play football with whatever club I wanted to??

I am in total agreement with you from the terrace, it is not fair on the rest of the players to mark a professional player, it shouldn't be allowed. I think every year this topic of Zack playing comes up. Now I don't blame Zack for playing either, I would if I was in his position after all we all want to play for our club, but still I feel it's unfair. So the replay is fixed for next Saturday and the winners are out the following day against the Carlow Champs. Now Laois got knocked out of the senior football championship on the 20th of June. Four months later we are playing the county final! Surely the championship could have been played off a bit sooner?? The summer months seem to be used to play league games and when it gets down to the serious games we are in October training and playing in rain and muck!! I know there was some drawn games that required replays, but it's not fair on whoever wins the final on Saturday to go out and play the next day in the Leinster Championship. I think the county board need to have a look at the structure of the championship.

Wasn't at any of the games either, but Abbeyleix seemed to put up a good battle, they will definitely fancy themselves against Castletown, while you would imaging C/B to beat the Harps.

as for the winners, should be a good battle between B/K v R/E, i would expect R/E to pip this with their experience. Camross v Ballinakill, i would think camross to win here easily enough, Ballinakill have some good players but you would think Camross would be too strong for them. Just a quick question, did Holmes, Delaney or Darrell Dooley feature for camross?? all 3 transferred back form Australia this year.

Well men, new to this forum. Absolutely delighted with the result. the work cheddar and the team has put in is phenomenal. delighted for them, they wont be fearing Galway at all, and Galway will think they are red hot favorites. hopefully Galway will collapse like they always do when they get a good win in the previous game.!! Anyway, i am currently living over seas. is there any link or anywhere to watch the highlights of the Laois game? i have tried youtube but nothing is up on it yet. thanks in advance.

Laois abu.!!
