Mayo / Re: Mayo Football and Hurling - Discussion pages

I Know it is the least glamerous of the County finals, but does anybody have any thoughs on the Junior Final between Achill and Islandeady. Islandeady look to be the stronger but always seem to come up short on the big stage. Islandeady have a young team with 11 playing in the recent u-21 C final loss to Kilmovee Shamrocks.

If you are ever in the Mayo area, check out the lights in Ballyvary Community Ground. Both Gaelic and Soccer. Fairly impressive for a local small community!

Glad to see the Limerick lads not taking this one lying down!

Gez all this Monaghan hype......They beat nobody, lost Ulster final to Tyrone and were beaten by a Kerry side in second gear! Look i wish them well next year but you have to have a context of where they still are! If Monaghan deserve that ranking so do Meath!

Most of the proposals at first glance look reasonable and should help game overload that happens to players at 20 who are eligable to play for up to 5/6 teams.

The GAA HQ are right not to get involved in this.  If they are seen to chanel payments it will be regarded as paying the players and they will then have to start deciding who is and is not eligible which will be a huge can of worms - is a corner back from Clare worth the same as the Gooch.  What happens the lads from the 6 counties.  Why should RoI taxpayers be giving NI residents money?  The line in the sand should be drawn and the players told that all they are entitled to from the GAA is reasonable expenses.  We can rehash all the arguments again but if in doubt just look at what pay for play has done to club Rugby in this country and you will know where the line to be drawn is.

I am from the south and would be happy to see ROI Taxpayers money going to North. Many Northern Players play for southern clubs and vice versa. We were for years happy to take Northern money in Clones and later in Croker!

Had this discussion a few weeks back on intercounty game charges! It is an area i feel that is getting abused and will be the downfall of the GAA as their pride was always at local level. A few years ago there was a Railway cup game in Castlebar where they charged 300 people to get in. Would have been better to have said FREE Railway game, as it would have attracted a bigger curious crowd and promoted an ailing competition!

Some very funny bits, a lot of not at all funny bits.

Saw the one when the young lads were taking on Bally at the hurling the other week, that was a funny one.

Saw that a year or so ago. Alot of tired old cliches!

DIDA FACING UEFA ACTION

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against AC Milan and goalkeeper Dida over the incident that marred their Champions League clash at Celtic last week.

The Brazilian was carried off on a stretcher after an incident involving a Celtic fan who ran on to the pitch following Scott McDonald's injury-time winner.

The case against Milan and the player will be heard on Thursday by UEFA's disciplinary committee, who will also make a decision on charges against Celtic on the same day.

The charges against player and club relate to UEFA rules under which "member associations, clubs, as well as their players, officials and members, shall conduct themselves according to the principles of loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship".

Dida appeared to be slapped on the shoulder and initially gave chase to the fan, before falling to the ground.

He was then carried off on a stretcher while holding an ice pack to his face, before being replaced by Zeljko Kalac for the dying stages of Milan's 2-1 defeat.

The fan, 27-year-old Robert McHendry, escaped back into the crowd but he handed himself in to police the following day and admitted a breach of the peace in court last week.

UEFA announced then they had opened disciplinary proceedings against Celtic on charges of lack of organisation and improper conduct of supporters.

Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti has already admitted Dida's actions were a "mistake", and the European champions accepted the defeat.

Ancelotti said: "During the years, Dida has shown great sportsmanship and fairness - he was also hit by flares and he got up.

"The other night was a mistake. I don't know why he did it, but I think that the issue must be closed for all the demonstration of professionalism he gave through the years.

"I think that he made a mistake, but that's all.

"The fact that he came off was an evaluation which the doctor made, who did not know the extent of the damage and preferred to avoid any eventual risks."

Dida returned to action yesterday, on his 34th birthday, as Milan won 5-1 at Lazio in Serie A.

Celtic have banned McHendry and condemned his actions, but chairman Brian Quinn criticised Dida's actions in the aftermath of the game.

Quinn said: "I'm making no excuses for the behaviour, and the fan behaved disgracefully. But the contact made with the goalkeeper was minimal, absolutely minimal.

"The antics of the goalkeeper have to be taken into account as well.

"He took a couple of steps after the fan and then obviously made this decision that he should go to ground.

"Unless I missed something, he was carried off on a stretcher for what seemed to be the lightest tap you can imagine."

Mad as it may seem in Soccer you can get more serious injuries than Football or Rugby. Both Rugby and Football have less use of the foot and never (Physically) use their heads.

Not to put down one of our own but i find Kilinascully very poor TV. I realise that it is a family show but there seems to be no jokes with any substance, in fact there seems to be no Jokes full-stop. It has replaced Glenroe as RTE TV viewing on a Sunday before the News and has settled neatly into the (boring) comfort zone that series had.

Yeah, you're right all the provinces should be seeded. Mayo and Galway should never have been on the same side of the draw this year. God Sligo should have had to beat both to win their title. Same with ulster Armagh and Tyrone should have been on opposite sides, how can you let Monaghan to an Ulster final without beating either of these teams? God we do not want to be promoting weaker teams getting their big day in provincial finals and having a goal to win a title! ;)

we ar e taking about the Munster title hear, nothing else, even tho i am fully in favour of scapping all the provincial titles. But Munster in particular is a joke, there is not one other team down there even close to Kerry or Cork and that is not because Cork and Kerry are so good, its purely that the other teams are not good enough, and would not be good enough to contend in any provincial title!

Fair enough, but why give either Kerry or Cork the advantage of knowing year in year out that they will be in the last 12 for an AI. Do you not think that that idea stinks? Why cannot either of these teams have to hit the backdoor earlier and make the feckers peak earlier, if they are good enough sure they should not need to be seeded, the argument works both ways ? Are they that special?

Looks like Spurs are going to be the team involved in classic draws this season....... ;D
