Tyrone / Ardboe V Coalisland Tonight
June 29, 2011, 09:40:39 AM
Gonna be tight. But we seriously have to find our shooting boots after seeing the reserve game against Moortown on Monday Evening.

Anthony Ogg is doing well, but we need more consistency from our forward line.

I take it Snout won't be playing Tonight due to his injury for Tyrone against Donegal.

The brother of one of the Disappeared has spoken out, as it emerged a dig is underway at a cemetery in Co Monaghan as part of on-going investigations.

The exhumations of remains - from the graveyard of Urbleshanny Church near Scotstown - is taking place in the same area as previous excavations for Co Tyrone teen Columba McVeigh, who was just 17 when he was abducted and murdered in 1975.

"Until the DNA is done you can't really build up any hopes," his brother Oliver told UTV.

"It would be great if it was Columba and we could give him a Christian burial, but I haven't been given any indications at this stage."

An Garda Síochana confirmed that the Irish Justice Minister granted permission for the exhumation from a named grave, due to information received by gardaí and the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains.

Local coroner Dr Martin Watters, who then authorised the exhumation, added: "In the recent past I gave the go ahead for an exhumation to identify the remains within that grave.

"It was an official grave with the graveyard."

The State Pathologist and a forensic anthropologist are at the scene, along with gardaí, Commission staff and scientists.

It is anticipated that the subsequent examination of the remains will take some time.

Sixteen people were murdered and "disappeared" by republican paramilitaries during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, but only nine bodies have so far been recovered from secret burial sites.

I remember reading the Book 'History of the GAA in Tyrone' written during the Centenary Year (1984) and read that Moortown had a Hurling side which won the Derry League during the Early 70's.

Didn't Pearse McAleer (or even one of his Brothers) play on that side? Also, did any Ardboe man play for them (God forbid)?

Also, thanks to the joys of Wikipedia, I found out that The Loup had a Hurling side which won TWO Derry Championships during the Mid/Late 60's. I was talking to Joey 'Long Kesh' Corey about this at the Loup Club's Bar prior to a Table Quiz last Year. He said the Father of the Himpheys from Dungiven played on that side (he lived in Magherafelt then).

What Next? The WAGs alongside Mickey Harte and Tony Donelly at the Dug Out? A Loughshore version of 'Footbllers' Wives' or 'The only way is Essex'?

The BBC really do my nut in. It's bad enough they try and pimp the UK Labour Party (That got their Country into the Debt they're in now) without this Tabloid-esque dissection of the Tyrone side.

Highly unlikely, but fair play to the Orchard County for their development work in Hurling.

I sometimes head to Armagh City and it seems that all the young lads there are playing Hurling rather than Football. It's a similar Story in Inner-City Dublin.

Considering how Derry had a Purple Patch in Hurling 11 Years ago, let's hope Armagh can have a similar one this decade.

I talk to a few friends from Cargin/Creggan who are always maintaining that the Antrim Board were biased towards the Belfast players. Is that still the case?

Well, many players from South-West Antrim would have featured in successful Colleges sides with Derry's 'Big Three' (St Pat's Maghera, Mt. Mary's Convent, Magherafelt and St. Pius X College, Magherafelt).

By refusing to show at least hilights of the U-21 Shield Final?

I think the mentioning of it was pretty insulting, demeaning the Sport the way US Sportscasters denounce 'The other form of Football'.

If I was a Naomh Columcille man, I'd have been livid.

Tyrone / Ardboe V Moortown (Reserves)
June 28, 2011, 12:53:34 PM
It was a carbon copy of the Senior game 2 Months ago, Ardboe creating enough chances to be out of sight at Half Time but nearly throwing it away in the end.

Moortown are just like the Germans, impossible to shake off. They did exactly what Donegal did to Tyrone, the only difference being Ardboe held on.

Great Penalty save by Conor McGrath. :)

I'll never criticise another Tyrone Referee again.... EVER!!!!

Some of the tackles (particularly from Lavey) were more akin to WWE than Gaelic Football. The Penalty the Shamrocks won was the Gaelic equivalent of a 'Penalty Try', with Aaron Dook practically felled.

I wonder what it takes to win a free in Derry?  ::)
