Anyone watching the debate?

Fairly even first hour in my opinion. They both set out their points and the differences are clear for the voters.

It is amazing how McCain can listen to Obama talk for 3 minutes then say "what he meant to say is .......".
Is his listening comprehension so bad or is it the act of a desperate man?

Thankfully no discussion so far on religious viewpoints or doctrine- should not be involved with government.

As a die hard republician I have to say I am ashamed of the shift in tactics and the personal assaults on Obama. I would have been fine if the latest allegations had played out months ago but instead of playing their cards when they had them Mccain and the republicians waited until desperation set it before changing course towards extreme negativism and fear mongering. I hope the electorate see through it for what it is and shy away from being sucked into the Mccarthyesque fear mongering that Mccain has employed here.

McCain is going to lose, he seems to fear talking about the economy because he doesnt know what to do about it and if obama is any sort of orator at all he will steer the conversation back to what needs to get talked about which is the economy and away from who he broke bread with 40 years ago.

I feckin hate politicians. >:(

Looks like I won't need a new shovel ;)

Sean Hannity and Fox News giving a fair an open minded show on Barrack Obama is like an Atheist preaching scripture- a total joke.

Ayers and Obama worked together, when Ayers was "active" with his protests Obama was 8yrs old.

Kahlidi and Obama were neighbors whose kids went to the same school. He ate dinner with the Kahlidis and discussed American and Muslim views on global relations. :o

The whole show was an Anti Obama smear campaign that the Republicans have again stooped down to because the election looks in doubt.

The only radical ideals or association in the program were how the Republicans and Fox News are in bed together.

I really do not consider myself a Democrat or Republican more of an Independent who can think for myself and doesn't have to be lead by a defined group to see who would be the best man/woman for an elected position.

What I witnessed tonite on Hannity was a blatant attack using more fear tactics that were used by "W" to win his election.

VP Debate

Rounds by Round Scoring  (each round 1/2 hour)

Round1   Joe 9     Sarah 1

Round 2  Joe 10   Sarah 0

Round 3    Joe 10   Sarah 0

Joe answered questions with direct and thorough answers. He had facts and numbers to support his answers.

Sarah evaded questions with run around answers that eluded the actual questions. She spoke of her "Maverick" running mate and how she supports his plan of change without stating what this change is.

On a side note her grammar and accent was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Looks like we're fucked. I'd say there is some craic in the White House this evening! Looks like they're gonna have to try again. Looks like the only way the Republicans will be appeased if heads roll in the banks and ideally some people get locked up!

Maybe one of yea could clarify this. If inflation is increasing (ie the price of everything) then why do banks / states increase the interest rates on mortgages etc when they know it's more difficult for people to pay? Personnaly I'd rather be receiving some money from mortage repayments than have to take their home and try to sell it in a market which isn't buying. Is it not simply a case that those, like major share holders etc, still want their big fat 15 or 20% profit no matter what damage it does to the country (there are no countries only economies) or the joe bloggs on the street?

Mortgage rates are at a historic all time low 6%. The problem lies with who the banks lent the money to- people who didn't really qualify for the loans. Intrest only loans seem to be the big culprit in the bank scandal.

You are correct were the greed for profit has plagued the overall bottom line. You would think the banks would work with their customers, getting at least 600 on a 1300 a month mortgage would be better then the alternative, foreclosing on a house that now has lost 20-40% of its value and now you can't even find a buyer because you are no longer lending credit.

Now the bank is sitting on property that they have to pay property taxes on and in the meantime the value of the property keeps decreasing to were if they sell it the end up taking 40 to 50 cents on the dollar instead of working with their original customer(homeowner) and taking 60 to 80 cents on the dollar to the econmy improves. ??? ::)

Cadbury pulls melamine-laced chocolate from China By MIN LEE, Associated Press Writer
54 minutes ago

HONG KONG - British candy maker Cadbury said Monday it is recalling 11 types of Chinese-made chocolates found to contain melamine, as police in northern China raided a network accused of adding the banned chemical to milk.

A Cadbury spokesman said it was too early to say how much of the chemical was in the chocolates made at its Beijing plant, and another company official said the factory was responsible for only 0.5 percent of global sales and supplies Australia, Taiwan, Nauru, Hong Kong and Christmas Island.

"It's too early to say where the source was or the extent of it," said the spokesman, who declined to be identified because of company policy.

The company said its dairy suppliers are generally cleared by government milk testing.

Meanwhile, police in Hebei province arrested 22 people and seized more than 480 pounds of the chemical, used to make plastics, in the raids, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The report said the melamine was produced in illicit plants and sold to breeding farms and purchasing stations.

Xinhua said 19 of the 22 detainees were managers of pastures, breeding farms and purchasing stations. It did not say when the raids took place.

The scandal broke this month when authorities said infant formula produced by Sanlu was causing kidney stones in babies and young children. Four infants have died and some 54,000 have become ill after drinking the contaminated baby formula.

Subsequent tests revealed melamine contamination in products ranging from yogurt to candy to pastries.

Authorities believe suppliers added melamine, which is rich in nitrogen, to watered-down milk to deceive quality tests for protein.

Another Cadbury spokesman, reached through the company's London office, said there was no the contaminated chocolate could find its way into other countries because the factory only supplies Australia, Taiwan, Nauru, Hong Kong and Christmas Island.

"That factory in Beijing only exports to those markets. It's only a small factory," a Cadbury spokesman said. He refused to give his name and refused to explain why he would not give his name for publication.

"The product made in China makes up 0.5 percent of global sales, and this (the subject of this recall) is less than that because it's only chocolate," he said.

Cadbury's chocolates sold in the United States are not affected by the recall, said Kirk Saville, a spokesman for Hershey's, Cadbury's sole U.S. distributor.

Saville said he is also "positive" no Hershey's suppliers receive milk products from China, making their products safe.

Separately, Kraft Foods, the maker of Oreo cookies, and Mars, the maker of M&Ms and Snickers candy, said they believe Indonesian authorities were mistaken when they announced they had found melamine in samples of their products made in China.

"We don't use any milk ingredients from China in any Oreo products, no matter where they are made or sold," said Claire Regan, a Kraft spokeswoman.

Mar said, in a statement on its Web site, it is confident there's no melamine in any of its chocolate or candy made in China and called the Indonesian results "completely inconsistent" with test findings from other government and independent labs in Asia and Europe.

So far, only a local agency has checked the products for melamine, but the levels found were considered very high.

Melamine in food products is considered safe by Hong Kong health authorities at 2.5 parts per million or less.

Hong Kong supermarket chain PARKnSHOP also pulled its Chinese-made Oreo, M&M and Snickers products as a precaution, spokeswoman Pinky Chan said.

Countries around the world have removed items containing Chinese milk ingredients from store shelves or banned them outright.

Authorities in China had previously arrested at least 18 people and detained more than two dozen suspects in connection with the scandal.

Banks are now not lending to each other or to their customers.  Dow records its biggest closing point drop in history.

Small bussinesses are f#@ked all together now.

Many of the bigger companies will not be able to make payroll or pay suppliers due to lag from service/product to customer paying the company which is a normal  time frame 0f 15-90 days depending on terms. Most large companies borrow money for this lag time from the banks and now will not be able to do what has been normal .

A cash society will be the norm for the future. No lending to the average JOE so the economy which relies on credit for EVERYTHING is doomed.

Time to open a bar (most drink in hard times) or an auto supply/mechanic shop because people will not be able to buy new cars for a long time.
