GAA Discussion / Re: The Roscommon Bus
July 13, 2015, 07:57:01 PM
The poor bus didn't have a great day itself yesterday either. Apparently when going through the village of Fenagh in Co. Leitrim the bus got caught up in Cemetery Sunday! One badly parked car and trailer meant the bus couldn't get passed so John Evans and a few of the lads had to get off, and push the trailer out of the way!  ;D ;D

Not your regular warm up routine!!

Need a favor if anyone can help. I am looking for 2 Permium tickets for the Mayo-Tyrone Semi on the 25th. There are some spares available on the Priomh exchange lists for those who are currently are Premium holders. Just wondering if anyone has a login and would be willing to purchase two for me and I will of course reimburse. Alternatively if anyone has two they are looking to offload I will gladly purchase.

No reason for wanting Premium other than we are two neutral fans going to the game who want to enjoy a bit of luxury and a few comfortable pints on the day!

Please PM if anyone can help.

The four lads were dropped for been on the beer. They were reported after some clib posted pictures of them in a pub on Facebook!!

This is the third year this has happened under this management. The policy is ridiculous as it offers no reprieve whatsoever, 1 slip-up and your gone. If a lad has been dedicated and committed all year then he deserves better for one mistake. At the end of the day these three lads are amateurs in their early 20s. The rule is there for a reason but the punishment does not fit the crime; would a yellow card not suffice! The lads were coming from a club championship game ffs.

The lads are a massive loss to Leitrim, all four would be near certain to feature at some stage against London. Based on what has happened in the same circumstances previous years then there is not a chance of the lads getting back.

GAA Discussion / Re: All Stars 2012

Largely agree with the selections but find the inclusion of Michael Quinn ahead of his clubmate Sean McCormack a bit hard to understand. McCormack kicked 0-33 in 5 games and won man of the match on 3 occasions. Quinn came back from Aus with an enhanced reputation but took a long time to establish himself into anyone position on the Longford team. Just seems a little odd.

The inclusion of Brogan beggars belief, prob a cut and paste job from last year and forgot to delete him.......

Worst display of refereeing I have seen in a while, the tackling was just free for all. Ref seemed oblivious to it.

And how the GC keeper thought it was a good idea to hit KO after KO down the middle is just unbelievable. Had the Galway hurlers training @ 4:45 where did the GC management go to for the last 15!!

GAA Discussion / Re: County Final - Up for the Match
September 22, 2011, 10:07:38 AM
Our club done this a few years back and it was a huge success. Done it the night before the final so no players out at that point. We done it as as fundraiser and made great money from it. We had admission optional on the door which lifted a tidy sum to begin with.

For entertainment we had the usual 'local talent' along with a few from surrounding areas. A group of set dancers in the club jersies also added a bit of life to it. We had no interviews or any of that stuff for the reasons pointed out - to much talkin sh1t that everyone has heard before. Also its impossible to get enough silence in a pub for that and you'll only annoy someone who thought they had a great story to tell.

We raffled two club jersies on the night also which went down well as they weren't on general sale. We also handed out quiz sheets with novelty questions about the club which got people talking and thinking. Throw out a few audience questions for a free pint also which keeps the crowd in good humor. We also sold car flags, headbands etc on the night which also took in a few pound. It costs very little to run, some refreshments and a few bits like that so you can't loose on it and bar the pioneer movement HQ is in your area you'll be sure of a crowd.

In a nutshell go for it. Like ourselves you don't seem to get to finals to often so enjoy it for all ya can, its a proud day for a club that doesn't come around to often and you can't celebrate it half enough. People will be in good form that night and ya can't go wrong. Never mind the bullsh1t said on here we've been there, done it and had a great night that everyone enjoyed and helped the club coffers in no small way.

Oh and for the record...........we won by a point  ;D and the next few nights were even better!!!

Good luck in the game also, I know the Gaels are strong but even they will loose as some point!

Hi Gold, Connolly was  born and raised in Leitrim, played U 14 with them. Moved to Dublin at 16 and threw his lot in with the Dubs. Colm O Rourke did same with Meath. I think Connolly got a small farm near Ballsbridge.

Not sure about him playing u-14 with Leitrim but his Dad was from Leitrim and his bro plays hurling with Leitrim (so obviously it was only a matter of time until an all-ireland medal came into the house!)

Once again Wicklow club championships make they headlines for all the wrong reasons. This is now an annual feature of the club championships in Wicklow and is reflecting poorly on the GAA as a whole. Some in Wicklow try to believe they are unlucky to get this bad press but in reality this doesn't happen in every other county.

Obviously whatever punishment WCB are issuing isn't working and this problem arises time and time again. There were 10 Red cards this weekend in SFC alone! Its a sad reflection on a competition when a team withdraws its players from the field. Is it now time for Croke Park to step in and restore order?  Or maybe the water should be tested for some sort of 'anger-inducing' chemicals???

GAA Discussion / Re: Sligo v Leitrim 22-5-11
May 15, 2011, 04:38:55 PM
The Leitrim view is not to promising Expect very limited support in Sligo for Leitrim, have even heard some seasoned supporters saying they will give it a miss this year. Leitrim played Mayo juniors few weeks ago in Conn semi, the Mayo team is selected entirely from junior ranks. Leitriim had 12 players starting who are likely to start against Sligo and we still got beaten :(

Goalie is the only injury concern with John McKeon now back. Honestly expect Sligo to win confortably, 7/8 points after a boring one sided game.

GAA Discussion / Poker Classic Fundraiser - Advice
February 21, 2011, 09:11:53 PM
Our club are hoping to run a Texas Holdem tournament during April in Leitrim as a fundraiser. We are looking for a professional organiser who would assist us with the organisation and running of the event, supply the tables, know the rules etc.

Has anyone used anyone for this type of event that they could recommend? Any tips or advice for running this would be appreciated also.

Had a 300lux Musco installation done a few years back, very competitive andhave done nealry all major GAA grounds. No complaints whatsoever about quality or evenness of lighting.

Things to look out for:

the poles: the poles needs massive wind resistance. A lot of companies achieve this through thickness in the steel. Musco use a tensioned cable down the centre of the pole. This gives a sleek pole design along with superb strength. The nuber of poles is irrelevant its the lux coverage that is the important thing. we have a flawless 300 lux system off 4 poles.

The running cost: Consumption is not the problem for us. Running cost is c. €12 per hour with ESB. However we have a standing charge with the ESB which we cannot change. Consider a 3 phase generator.

The lux reading. This is the important bit, to ensure consistency check the height levels that the reading was taken at, i.e. one taken at 1M will have an advantage over one taken at pitch level.

good luck with it!

GAA Discussion / Oxygen..
July 07, 2010, 10:42:11 PM
With every year that passes the rows over player availability during the weekend of oxygen is getting as annual as the event itself. Do clubs find that you can safely assume to be without a few players each year on the weekend of oxygen?

GAA Discussion / Re: Grounds called after women
May 27, 2009, 03:20:34 PM
Was expecting it to be rare alright. Called after saints would be common enough but called after women with a specific connection to the club or county seems very scarce by comparison to men.
