Armagh / Re: Armagh v Dublin 1977

Watched it myself...that game has not worn well with the passing of time. I suppose the same can be said for old soccer and rugby matches too...the standard of a lot of the basic skills were very very poor...some of the soloing...kick passing and attempted catches were dreadful

Apres Match - "Discussion on Radio Ulster regarding qualifiers, Adrian McGuckian rightly says Down will be hopin for Mayo, Sidebottom says Down will be hoping for Laois in the next round......awkward silence!!!"

Sidebottom got one right then as Down would have been better off looking for Laois than getting obliterated by the Mayo men....:)

Haha ard chieftan I totally agree. Heard the garrycastle manager make that statement and thought oh dear that's a mistake...lol....you will regret that statement.....cross upped it big time today...garrycastle were very poor with some poor players on their team making lots of errors which you cannot do against cross. Lots of diving and simulation from both teams ......not good to see...people pretending to be really hurt when there was nothing wrong with them...just to get the other team in trouble.

Must also say that there was a really good atmosphere inside the ground on sat night with the crowd being vocal in their support for each team. At last it seems that we have a county ground to be proud of.

It was young Carragher that got the bad injury mate.

Great result for Armagh tonight. Thought they played really well - were very hungry for it. Brian Mallon was very good as was B Donaghy and A Mallon. McKeever as solid as ever and kicked a quite inspirational point. Lavery really helped the midfield win some ball again and put in a few nice shoulders which he could do even more. Felt sorry for Pete Carragher. It happened close to where I was sitting and you could hear the crack. Nothing malicious in it just a bad collision and the leg looked pretty bad. Hope he recovers soon. High intensity for a league game and was well worth the admission price I thought.

Really wanted garrycastle to win. But alas it was not to be. Cross are a great team but are very cynical. Always niggling and hitting late. It obviously works for them but am not a fan of it.

I think Armagh could have done with the likes of Vernon on today. They were totally overrun and could not cope with the physicality of Dublin either. Poor show. Some of the lads on looked like kids which in fairness they probably are...:)

Armagh / Re: Armagh Club football & hurling

Well what a waste of a tenner that was!! Went to game expecting a comfortable enough Cross win but hoping that Ballymacnab would do themselves justice. They didnt. Once Cross got 4 or 5-0 up the writing was totally on the wall and what unfolded next was a horror show for any neutral (which I was). Ballymacnab were totally out of their depth - fair play to them for getting to this stage but the result might hinder them in the long run rather than help. Cross were superior in every department which you might have expected but the difference in physical strength and size was most apparent out on the field. Nab were lambs to the slaughter.

Congratulations to Cross of course for their continued excellence. However this was a sad indictment of our county championship. A totally over matched team being over run leading to no atmosphere or excitement at match at all. It was dead. The fact that Nab had earlier defeated Clanns (one of the most successful teams ever in Armagh football) by 20 odd points and the fact that Cross had defeated Harps (one of the most successful teams ever in Armagh football) by around the same margin in an earlier round shows where our county championship is at.

Fair play to Cross but the rest need to seriously look at themselves.

No one is writing anyone off here lads - keep it real. Clans would have expected something from those 2 'winnable' fixtures. Ballymacnab have got a great start which I feel was essential for them. Tougher times will lie ahead in the league but would 14 - 16 points not be near enough to stay up? They have 4 already. In my experience there were some easier points to pick up at the start of a league season as you could get the jump on a few teams as they may not have been as sharp as your own team. I would have been fairly confident that Granemore would do ok this year - fairly strong team and well organised. Clans and Harps have it all to do....if they want to achieve their 'league ambitions'. Thats my feeling on it anyway :)

It looks like it could be a long old season for 2 former big guns - Clans and Harps. You can wreck your season early on in the league with 4 or 5 bad results....

P.S I thought Kerrigan for Cork came on very strong in the latter stages of the game yesterday - his speed and direct running through the middle of our team caused us bother

Thats a stupid question - I would play Charlie in the middle - on your predicted team you have James Lavery and Mal Mackin in the middle - no disrepsect to either but Charlie is better than both...also you have found a place for A Duffy in the half forward line - again Charlie would be a better bet even there.
